The space

If you're looking for respite and inspiration,
Welcome to Voss Gardens! Or as our guests call it "Foodie Heaven!"
We are casual and rustic chic here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Perched in the redwoods, our home is an architectural wonder built by our family of engineers and artists back in the eclectic seventies. Over the years an assemblage of art, antiques and curios has charmed its way into the spacious rooms and lofts. We offer 6 acres of quiet ambiance for guests and business travelers. Surrounded by redwoods and wildlife, our year round Organic Gardens provide robust greens for the Culinary Artist at the Montalvo Center for the Arts in Saratoga and other private chefs in the Bay Area.
Although our location is central to all the area has to offer, you may just want to sit on one of our many decks and commune with the muse, ponder the profundities, finish that novel, play the piano, paint the landscape, breathe deeply....
Then for a break, you are
-5 miles from Henry Cowell State Park, 28 miles from Big Basin State Park, both have stunning hiking and biking trails,
-Popular cycling routes just off our driveway
-10 miles from the beach and all the wonderful weirdness that is Santa Cruz,
-20 minutes from Silicon Valley,San Jose International Airport, and a myriad of metropolitan pleasures,
-1 hour south of San Francisco, my favorite city in the world,
-1 hour north of Monterrey/Carmel,
-1 mile stroll from a stunning old growth redwood, "The King of the Forest."(see Picture) Take a walk or bike ride from our house, and pass by a pony farm, historical markers, vineyards and old stagecoach and railroad routes. This little area of Glenwood is loaded with history.
-64 bonded wineries within 20 mile radius

We make every effort to maintain cleanliness. However, our mountain well water has a high mineral content and 40 years of buildup has left our facilities with a rusty looking surface that is extremely difficult to remove. We sanitize regularly and ask our guests to please keep this in mind. Consider it part of the charm of living in the mountains.

Guest access

Kitchen is generally not available but we can be flexible for simple requests. Just ask.
Peace of mind is always accessible, as are the decks, living and music rooms.

Interaction with guests

Privacy is always respected but we find getting to know our guests is one of the wonderful perks of airbnb.
Its up to you.

The neighbourhood

You'll revel in quietness and the natural beauty of the mountains, 10 minutes to the beach, 1 hour to San Francisco. There are numerous hiking and biking trails in several state parks within 20 minutes. An old growth redwood is a mile stroll from the house. We are surrounded by trees and wildlife. Many of our neighbors have horses. The old stagecoach route from SF to Monterrey runs right through our property and the oldest bonded winery in California was started next door. We feel safe, and people are friendly. "Town" with great restaurants and conveniences is 4 miles away.

Getting around

We are 4 miles from the Scotts Valley Transit Station. Rides can be arranged.

Other things to note

Hostess(that would be me:)) is a gourmet cook and meal options can be arranged for an additional fee. Menus are determined seasonally and feature what we grow. We can cater to your personal dietary needs.

What a wonderful first experience with Airbnb and with Eden and Craig! They were such amazing hosts, and made us feel right at home. If you love dogs, you'll love Buddy, too! The location is about 15-20 minutes from Santa Cruz, and Scotts Valley was a nice area to explore, with some amaze places to wine and dine. If you aren't accustomed to driving in the mountains, take extra precautions as the locals can drive pretty fast on the 17... And the roads can get windy but it's so worth the drive because the home is beautiful as are the hosts! Eden has amazing skills in the kitchen, utilizing the fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden to provide some tasty snacks for their guests! I'm looking forward to planning another trip out here and booking at Voss Gardens!

Eden and her place is amazing. My wife and I stayed here right after our engagement in January 2015. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to return. All we were looking for was a getaway from busy city life. It was that and more. Eden treated us to a delicious breakfast and we packed our own lunch that we had on her beautiful deck. We can't wait to be back again and again and with our families in the future. Thank you Eden!

Eden had a lovely space that made you feel at home. It was very quiet and comfortable. She was welcoming and helpful and told us places to visit and eat that were really great. An enjoyable stay, we hope to visit again.

She made us feel welcome on the very first day we arrived and gave us the lay of the land with a few tips on where to go and eat. We did enjoy the national park she suggested for a long bike ride along a very dusty trail. A few suggestions: A booklet in every room for all guests to see as to where to go and where to eat, with Yelp reviews. There was a little confusion regarding taking off ones shoes with a dog that goes in and out of the house routinely and having to carry my sandles with me to walk on the wooden outside deck. We have stayed in other cabins in the past that were updated and gave you the feel of a 5 star hotel. I guess we were expecting the same based on the picture that was the first image one sees in the listing. Also, the moment something comes up like a plumbing issue...please text your guests right away so they know what to expect and how to prepare. I did recieve a text as we arrived two hours after the fact.

Response from Eden:
I’d like to use this response as an opportunity to get a message out to all airbnb guests everywhere. I speak for many airbnb hosts. When you are searching for that perfect place, READ THE LISTING CAREFULLY!!!! Otherwise you will have unrealistic expectations. When there are expectations, as in this case, and it’s not a good fit for you, there’s not much we as hosts can do to change that. You will find fault with everything. Airbnb has grown a lot in the last few years, and hosts are finding that guests often neglect to read the fine print and then blame the host. We strive to be accurate, and care deeply about making the airbnb experience pleasant for everyone. Jerry, you were expecting a 5 star cabin with hotel amenities, there’s a Hilton right down the road for that, and you’ll pay 3x as much on a holiday weekend. We don’t even have a cabin, nor do I have 253 reviews for this listing, just a simple guest room in our rustic 70’s mountain home and 60 something very happy guests. Did you get us mixed up with another listing in the area? In response to your inquiry, I sent you several emails informing you explicitly that we did not have a private shower and that it would be a busy weekend with other guests in the house. We are always looking to improve and value constructive feedback. This was the busiest weekend we ever had, and granted, the parking situation was not thoroughly thought out. We have put a better parking plan into place, so thank you for your comment. Sometimes shit happens. Who knew the new construction site next door was going to throw off our water supply? We were up most of the night and had it fixed by morning. If you had stuck around you would have enjoyed the delicious free breakfast we offered all our guests for this unforeseen inconvenience. FYI, instead updating our 70’s home as you suggested, and losing the charm of an era our guests love, we are currently building a new guest cabin in the orchard area of our property. It will open next spring and have its own bathroom, kitchen, fresh paint and style. In compliance with the California Drought Awareness Program, we will continue to ask our guests to observe the “Take 5” minute shower policy until the drought is over. As this restriction is not to your liking perhaps you would be happier someplace else. We invite you to come back and try it, and will offer you an agreeable discount. Namaste

This has been our favourite AirBnB experience by far. Eden, her husband Craig and their dog Buddy are wonderful hosts. We felt at home, had everything we needed and enjoyed some great conversations with Eden and Craig. If you're looking for a relaxing stay in the redwoods, or a convenient location to visit the surrounding attractions, this place is a must! We will definitely visit again.

This was my second time staying at her and Craig's lovely home and I can't wait to go back again. Eden is the consummate hostess and she made sure our every need was met. Coffee and homemade baked goodies await you every morning and make you feel at home. She even adjusted her schedule to allow us to stay another night in order to accommodate our schedule. Best Airbnb experience I've ever had. Thank you Eden, we'll be back soon.

I and my two girlfriends had a lovely time at Eden's, a quick one night stay but definitely memorable! We were welcomed by another guest, Kevin, and spent the evening chatting over wine and food, watching the stars, and listening to him play the guitar.. The room was humble, and the silence of being tucked away surrounded by trees was so welcome after busier days in Carmel and on the road! This is a great spot to explore the nearby redwood parks from - we headed to beautiful Big Basin the next morning which is a 40-42 minute drive away.
