The peaceful and spacious 42qm loft in this 18th century house in Dresden overlooks an old apple orchard on the Elbe river with a view of the Blue Wonder Bridge. It's a historic landmark and a very charming place to create happy memories. The Place is located on the Elbe bike trail and close to public transportation.

The space

Friedrich Schiller wrote the "Ode to Joy" here in 1785 while other guests to the so-called Körnerhaus included Goethe, Mozart and Humboldt. You can wake to the sound of church bells, enjoy a peaceful view of horses grazing in the orchard, relax in the garden or take a bike ride along the Elbe. The loft comprises the entire top floor, has windows on all sides and its own bath. You are welcome to use our kitchen or we can arrange to serve you breakfast in the garden or the loft. While you will have the feeling of being in the country you are only a 5 minute walk from public transportation that will take you into the city. Bikes are also available for rent for a trip along the Elbe. We are happy to share with our guests tips for things to do in this city of art and culture.

Guest access

loft & garden, the kitchen is available for breakfast and light snacks. If you bring your bikes you are welcome to store them in our basement.

We look forward to meeting you when you arrive and will do our best to answer any of your questions during your stay.

I had a wonderful time at Sharon's. The room I stayed in, located on the top floor, was spacious, clean, and comfortable. She offered helpful directions whenever I needed them and altered me to places I wouldn't have thought to visit (Dresden's Hygiene Museum, for instance), tailoring her recommendations to my interests.

Beautiful spot, peaceful, but close enough to have a city experience.

The Poet's retreat is in a lovely location and the house and surrounds were just great. The city centre was easily accessible by tram after a short walk from the house. Sharon was a welcoming host and provided us with information about the area, public transport details, and interesting walks that we could take. The room was clean, spacious, had great views across the river Elbe and was decorated beautifully with a large comfortable bed. To reach the room you needed to climb two flights of stairs, not so easy if you are carrying heavy suitcases or have physical health issues, but apart from the stairs, an excellent place to stay.

Response from Sharon:
Brock and Jill gave us an overall 4 star rating because we have stairs. In the description that guests read and the house rules that they sign it is mentioned that the room is on the top floor and guests need to be able to climb stairs (31 in the house to be exact).

We have lived in Dresden since 2001. Although Dresden is beautiful, we do like to get out and see the world. We are AirBnB fans and hope to broaden our traveling horizons with your help. My husband is German, an architect and professor, I'm American, and a librarian. We like to visit cities, museums, hike, cook, garden, read. We promise to treat your home with care. Non smokers.
