Beautiful spot, perfect for relaxing with a book by the fire with the stunning views outside. Maxine welcomed and checked in on us regularly and made sure we had all we needed.

This place is amazing! Staying here was one of the biggest highlights of our trip through New Zealand. It is very secluded and away from any big civilization so it was very relaxing and the views of the stars at night were incredible. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous and the nearby cows are a lot of fun to see walking around. Maxine was an amazing host, giving very helpful, detailed instructions to help us get to the house and providing us great snacks and drinks for us. I would highly encourage a stay here to anyone who enjoys nature, great views, or peaceful getaways!

We had a mix up with the accommodations, but Max was highly accommodating and worked everything out with us. The location was absolutely beautiful, but it may be best to not have a low profile vehicle on the gravel road up to the cottages. We ended up losing a piece of our car, but not a big deal. There were some slight bug issues, but it's the country so if you do not like bugs-I wouldn't suggest staying here. Max was awesome with everything and we wish we got a chance to meet her. We would definitely stay here again, plenty of room for families as well.

Response from Maxine:
Sorry I should have explained why I wanted you to stay in the other bigger house, as we had been unable to get the new deck finished in time for your stay and I had not got this house ready for you. I wonder if the bugs were Huhu beetles, they are attracted to light and although are not pretty looking are totally harmless. I am also happy to report that the road has now been graded and is in much better condition. xox Max

Enjoyed a lovely few days in the middle of farmland - a truly beautiful place to stop if you are mid-trip between Waitomo and Taranaki, or simply wanting to be outside of mobile phone coverage for a few days! The neighbours invited us to bring our kids to the milking shed and let them know where to watch out for cows in the morning. The house was very comfortable and the hosts provided a lovely spread for breakfast- as well as fresh milk!

A wonderful property in a stunning corner of New Zealand....the perfect escape from the Big Smoke! Maxine was a great host - excellent communication both before and during our stay. Maxine went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and the little extras were a great touch! The cottage is well equipped. We loved sitting on the deck each evening with a beer taking in the peace and quiet and stunning views. There is lots to do in the area - especially recommend the boat ride up the Mokau River and a trip to the Three Sisters. We also enjoyed exploring the gravel back roads north of Awakino - strap yourself in! Thank you Maxine- we hope to return for some more R&R in the future.!!

Hi everyone I'm a mum of 8 kids, I grew up on the Hakari farm and my husband grew up on the Hutiwai farm. We love meeting people and I'm really enjoying hosting, especially now that our children are leaving the nest!
My husband and I are down to earth and love the unique environment around us, our family won an environment Award from the Taranaki Region Council for the planting of the Hutiwai stream for the conservation of the Whitebait and we work closely with the Taranaki Kiwi Trust and their breeding program. Family and relationships are important to us.
We look forward to meeting you soon!!
