Comfort and Location! This charming Cambridge apartment is on the first floor of our 2-family home on quiet, pretty Hollis Street, steps from Davis Square (Somerville) and Porter Square (Cambridge), within walking distance to all the universities and main attractions of one of the most vibrant communities in the US! You won't need a car - we are steps from public transportation to Boston, its colleges and medical centers, and all surrounding communities.

The space

The apartment is perfect for visiting faculty or graduate students and their families interested in a longer-term rental of a month or more. Additional bedrooms in our "Tree Top Suite" are available on our third floor, connected to the first floor apartment via a stairway, for an additional charge. Just ask if you need more than 2 bedrooms for your stay. See the third floor photos here:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/15902585

The first floor apartment itself is a tastefully furnished two-bedroom, with a dining room, living room, study, one full bathroom, walk-in closet, and a newly-renovated eat-in kitchen. There is one queen-size bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in the other bedroom, so it sleeps four. The kitchen is fully equipped; there is a large flat screen TV; cable and Wifi, and a washer and dryer in the basement. Our photos say it all…this is a cozy (but roomy), comfortable place to stay while you are in the Boston-Cambridge-Somerville area. Whether it is for business, pleasure, visiting the area colleges and universities or medical centers, you will feel at home on our quiet street just steps from busy Massachusetts Avenue.

Guest access

You have the whole apartment for yourselves, with your own front and back entrances. You have your own washer and dryer in the basement. Sit out on the back porch and yard and enjoy the garden! There is limited on-street parking. Ask me about longer-term parking options. My husband and I live upstairs on the second and third floors.

Interaction with guests

We respect your privacy. On the other hand, if we can help you figure out what to do and how to get around, just ask!

Other things to note

There is a pretty Catholic Church on the corner of Hollis Street and Massachusetts Avenue, with church bells that ring throughout the day (but not at night). Other places of worship are within walking distances or accessible by public transportation.

Consider combining your visit to Boston/Cambridge with a trip to Cape Cod - we have the perfect vacation rental for you in Harwich Port. The link to our charming cottage is on my profile page.

Lovely and spacious apartment and a really nice location. Lots of nice local bars and restaurants, and a 7/11 for staples. With a car, lots of other larger shops in easy reach. Don't know about public transport as we were driving, but getting into Boston and further afield by car was very easy.

Where to begin? With the warm, wonderful and gracious hosts? Mary Ann and Gerry, who we now consider friends, welcomed us into their lovely historic home with open arms, and, in the spirit of Airbnb, we truly felt a part of the neighborhood...our home away from home. Cambridge and Somerville allow for a perfect long-term vacation. Everything you could want, restaurants, entertainment, two fabulous markets (we visited Pemberton's nearly every day - fresh fish from the sea every Tuesday and Friday), as well as Farmer's markets and fun shopping. Boston is but an MTA ride away - a quick 7 minute walk and you're on the red line heading to all the sights. Navigating the subway system is a cinch and we went into Boston most days. We only rented a car once, for a delightful over-nighter to Hyde Park in New York. For a fun day trip, take the ferry over to Salem, (we skipped all the witchy stuff), and visit the Peabody Essex Museum. Dinner at Turner's Seafood was divine! Also, don't miss the day trip excursion to Newport, RI. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is yours at Mary Ann and Gerry's - well equipped kitchen, coffee accessories, comfortable beds, fluffy towels, wi-fi, laundry facility, etc. The opportunity to reside, for a spell, in a charming example of New England vernacular residential architecture is a treat indeed. We were so sad to leave. If you have the opportunity to enjoy a month living in this wonderful home, you will be the happier for it.

Elegance and grandeur are the hallmarks of this house and it's neighborhood. The sign with the message of tolerance in the garden made us feel at home in an instance. We (my wife, grandson and I) did most of our shopping at Bfresh Market (close to Davis square), a high quality grocery, just an easy eight minutes walk through a nice environment. Trees with squirrels all over. The Red line T (most important public transport for Cambridge and the city) is in the same area, so we usually did the shopping at the end of the day. The house is clean, spacious and comfortable. All what we needed was available. Mary-Ann is a super host indeed.

Such a beautiful experience with Mary Ann and her wonderful and beautiful home. Welcoming us personally, and with lovely generous touches to make myself and my family feel right at home. Always contactable, nothing seemed a bother. Would highly recommend this property and locale to anyone wanting a real Boston experience. Thank-you Mary Ann, if we're ever in Boston again, we'd love to see you.

Our family of four had a lovely stay at Mary Ann's. The backyard was great -- we enjoyed sitting out when the weather was warm. Not having to lug a pack n' play was a huge plus and then we were even more pleased to discover that the front closet was large enough to put the pack n' play in and give the baby his own "room"! You do hear the church bells but for us it was only when we were awake and hearing them every 15 minutes was practically a highlight for our three-year old. Easy walk to Davis Sq (10 minutes away) and we went to Pemberton Farms (2 minutes away) four times over two days (great place to pick up coffee and a breakfast sandwich or a six pack of beer or wine for after the kids go to bed). Mary Ann was great to work with and a perfect host. We will be back next time we are in Boston!

A great place, very roomy and comfortable for 4 adults. About a 5 minute walk to public transportation, then about 15-20 minutes ride on the transit to downtown Boston. We had a car, but it was so easy to take transit and not have to worry about driving and finding parking. Kitchen well stocked with everything you need if you plan on cooking, or several restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Mary Ann is a gracious hostess! I highly recommend staying here.

Mary Ann was awesome!!! Her home was amazing, comfortable, cozy, and we felt right at home. The area was beautiful!! Walking distance to public transportation, shops, dining, etc. By train your within 20-30 minutes of downtown Boston, depending on where you want to go. My husband and I are already planning on going back next year and staying here.
