Other things to note
Isla Mujeres is Caribbean island 13 km off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. The island is only 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) long and just 650 meters (710 yards wide.) Isla de Mujeres is rated by (URL HIDDEN) as a “Travelers Choice”; Lonely Planet called it “quieter and more affordable” than nearby Cancun.
Case Colibri is located at the south end of Isla de Mujeres in the island’s safest neighborhood. Conveniently located close to restaurants and activities, the house is quiet and away from the late night party hoopla of the resort areas. The neighborhood is home to celebrated architecture such as the island’s iconic Casa Caracol (The Shell House).
A relaxing five minute walk from the Casa Colibri down an isolated path away from the road is Punta Sur (South Point), the breathtaking south end of the island and the Garrafon National Reserve. This park is home to the Mayan Ruins of a temple built for the goddess of childbirth and medicine, Ixchel. Beyond the unforgettable ocean vista, at Garrafon you can enjoy the old lighthouse, zip line, ice cream shop, and restaurant (try the lobster!) and get a seat on the patio with views of the distant Cancun skyline.
Also within a very short walk of Casa Colidri is the Garrafon Reef Club with its spectacular private snorkeling beach and reef ($5) and the La Jolla Hotel (Buy a cocktail or beer and relax in its fresh-water pool). Or try more local eateries like Casa owners’ go-to underrated spot for a beer and the surprisingly affordable shrimp sautéed in garlic butter.
A slightly longer walk (or quick bike or golf cart ride) is Sac Bajo. There you will find the sea turtle sanctuary, Dolphin Discovery activities and an opportunity to swim with gentle nurse sharks.
