Other things to note

- The sleeping platform has restricted head height and is accessed by a paddle board ladder - this is not suitable for children or people with restricted mobility.

- Please respect the peace of the valley. Trethake is a tranquil and secluded place. We have very few neighbours and abundant wildlife who enjoy the quietude of this extraordinary sanctuary. You are very welcome to enjoy the grounds and gardens, day and night - but no outdoor amplified music, and no noise louder than an owl's hoot after dark!

Neighbourhood highlights

Known as the Cornish Riviera, this stretch of coastline is one of Cornwall's best kept secrets and offers some of the best walking, swimming and sailing in Britain.

This is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The beaches are completely unspoilt with secluded sandy bays and hidden rocky coves. Wildflowers, butterflies and birds thrive in the coastal meadows and dolphins, seals and porpoises can be spotted in the clear summer water.

Picnics at the beach, seal spotting, wild swimming, campfires and star gazing are firm favourites in our household - but there are plenty more ways to spend your time while you're at Trethake.....

From Polruan and Bodinnick, you can take the ferry from the harbour wall over the river to Fowey, where you'll find bustling eateries and boutique shops, as well as boat expeditions, sea fishing trips, and kayak and paddle board hire.

Traditional pubs, restaurants and cafes in Polruan (The Lugger), Bodinnick (The Old Ferry Inn), Polperro (The Blue Peter), Fowey (The King of Prussia, North Street Kitchen), Lostwithiel (Duchy of Cornwall), Polkerris (Sam’s on the Beach) and Lerryn (The Ship Inn)

Excellent local food fare at Bella Mama Delicatessen (Lostwithiel), Whitecross Village Market (first Saturday of the month, honey, cider, cheese, coastal reared beef), Looe harbour fishmongers (Pengelly’s), plus local verge side stalls throughout the lanes selling fresh eggs and vegetables.

Further afield, great days out include The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House, Golitha Falls, and The Cheesewring (prehistoric stone circles on Bodmin Moor)
