This solar powered schoolbus tiny home is nestled under open skies, near to the forest, with a lake front view, featuring a full bed, kitchen with two burner stove & sink, & a cozy couch. Bliss in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest on Interwoven Permaculture Farm, on Lusk Creek Wilderness. Enjoy star gazing from the deck. The chorus of nature will lull you at night, and greet you in the morning. It's a beautiful place to wake up! With a kitchen, & AC/Heater, this is ultimate glamping!!!

The space

The interior is finished in beautiful hand-milled pine, from our land. There is one full size bed, and one fold out couch that is more like a child size or very small bed. The kitchen has a two burner hot plate, draining sink, with water provided, Britta Water filter, Basic utensils, can opener, french press coffee maker, pots, plates, mugs, and such. There is a space heater for those cool nights and mornings, and a fan and window unit AC for the hot days. Beautiful lighting casts a magical glow. It's all solar powered! Cozy bedding is provided. There are a dining table and chairs, as well. There's no fridge, so you'll want to bring a cooler. If you are doing an extended stay, we'll freeze your ice packs, or you can use some ice from our freezer. It's a very short walk to the upscale outhouse. There is an outdoor cool-water shower house available for your use. The back porch is a great place to relax and stargaze.
The bus overlooks the two acre "Lake Harriet". Swimming, canoeing, respectful and careful fishing, and enjoyment of the lake is available. There's a beautiful swing overlooking the lake, as well. Enjoy a campfire in the provided fire bowl. Take a hike on the land or nearby in the Shawnee National forest.
We REQUIRE a pre-dark check in.

Guest access

Come down our driveway, and honk if you don't see us around. We'll provide guidance. We require a pre-dark check in, and we appreciate working out your ETA with you, so the bus is prepared for your arrival and to make sure we are around when you get here.

Interaction with guests

Based on our availability, your desire, and weather. We're building a beautiful permaculture learning center here. You may hear/see people around working or enjoying the land. We've accepted many an invite to enjoy a campfire with our guests, when we have the availability. We naturally provide you with space, unless invited to interact, though we may check in and ask you how you are doing if we see you out and about. We occasionally have weekend events going on, which you are welcome to take part in, and we will let you know about it before your trip. (Examples of events may be "pop-up" food evebts, workshops or classes. Some have a fee, others are free)

Other things to note

This is not a place for people who are uncomfortable with nature!!! If you scare at the sight of bugs, dirt, and animals, you should consider accommodations elsewhere. It's a jungle out here...ticks are a real thing. Be prepared for a full nature immersion experience. We offer various in-season farm products for sale. Firewood is available for no cost, but we do accept tips for the hard working wood splitter and stacker.

This is the perfect spot to stay if you love nature and want a peaceful, quiet escape. Earthdancer and Michael were incredibly warm and welcoming, and you could tell that they've put so much love and care into creating this little home. I loved canoeing on the lake, watching the chickens in the morning, and looking at the stars at night. I didn't get a chance to enjoy a campfire, but it was awesome that they had it available! I downloaded the entire Shawnee area on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps for offline use so I had no trouble at all finding the place. There are so many fantastic sights in the area, and the farm was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of hiking. I just wish I could have stayed longer!

Awesome place! Host was super friendly and the bus was something out of a dream come true for me. Beware the duck poop if you go barefoot! We would defiantly like to go back.

Earthdancer and Michael were good hosts. Earthdancer greeted us and gave us a quick tour of the space. She had a lovely energy. The land was beautiful and secluded, as listed, and the school bus is just a total treasure. I especially enjoyed the informative notes left in the bus and the outhouse (it was a legit hole-in-the-ground outhouse!) with environment-friendly tips. I've never been more conscious about how I was using the space around me. Earthdancer also provided us with suggestions about hiking trails in the area. We took her suggestions to heart and found them to be rewarding. Thanks for making our getaway special.

This is exactly as advertised: a bus parked on an organic farm right in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest. There are lots of happy animals, sun, and the fresh eggs are amazing. Totally would come back next year. I'll bet it's amazing in the fall too!
