About this listing
Conveniently located 3 miles east of Homer. Incredible views of Kachemak Bay. 500 SF Suite has a queen bed, a hide-a-bed couch, full bath, small microwave, fridge and coffee maker for light meals.
Our home is conveniently located 3 miles east of the city of Homer. The sloped 2-acre lot offers incredible views of Kachemak Bay. The 500 square foot master suite is clean and comfortable. We live in the main level, and the master suite is situated half a level up with a private entrance. The suite has a living area with a hide-a-bed couch, a queen bed, and a walk through closet to a full bath. A small microwave, fridge and coffee maker are in the room for breakfast/light dining. The suite sleeps 4.
The home is a 70's style ranch, with 80s decor, but what it lacks in cabin cozy, it makes up for in the stunning views, room between neighbors, and plenty of room outside for wandering moose and outdoor play.
Guests get full run of the Suite, if you need access to the kitchen send me an email. We keep the suite very clean, but with 3 males around, the rest of the house goes through wild phases of chaos to clean, and quickly back to chaos. We don't mind sharing, but it may not be as clean as your space. We don't have laundry available at the house, but there is a laundromat just down the hill from us, and another in town.
Interaction with guests
We run an oyster farm across the bay, and during the summer we are extremely busy, out and about across the bay, selling at the farmer's market, shucking at our shuck shack next to the Homer Brewing Company, or running errands around town. We will be around and available to get you settled and answer questions, but we will not be super involved hosts. Mostly you'll have lots of quiet privacy, and a great home base for exploring the area.
Other things to note
There are walking trails just down the road from the house. And a variety of local attractions from bear viewing and glacier flights, to water taxi rides to the Kachemak Bay State Park and Wilderness area. The area is known for it's wildlife and bird viewing, and much of that can be seen from the comfort of the living area of the suite.
We expect guests to be respectful. Alaska is muddy so please remove shoes when you enter. Smoking is not allowed inside. We would love to accept pets, but given the potential for tracking in mud on the carpets, we just can't. Kids are welcome, but there are some steep areas in the neighborhood and quite a bit of wildlife, so parents are responsible for keeping an eye on them outside, especially on the balconies.

We own and operate a small oyster farm in Jakolof Bay 7 miles across Kachemak Bay. In the summer months my husband and two teenage sons spend most of their time on our boat, working on the farm, while I work the farmer's market and sales and shipping on the Homer side of the bay. So in summer we vacate part of our house and rent the upper level.
We love sailing, traveling, reading and hiking. We've cruised the South Pacific in our sailboat, homeschooling the kids along the way for 3 years before arriving in Homer via the Aleutians. We landed here to be close to family and to give the kids a chance at "real" High School and to prepare for college. This may not seem like the highly stylized space you'd expect from an architect - it's a case of the shoemaker's kids (who prioritized adventure over space for awhile) - let's just say we'll be working on that in the years ahead.
You may not see much of us while you're here, but one of us will be available and ready to answer any questions about this beautiful area. Frank is French, and I studied and worked in France, Tahiti and Denmark, if by any chance you're from a country speaking those languages, we may be able to make your stay easier.
Motto: It's all about the path not the destination…are we there yet?
