The space

The house is located in lovely apple orchards and is many years old. The view from the porch is just surreal. One room is furnished with a tandoor (fire place), foam ground sheet, mattress and quilts, some books and games. There is complementary fire wood stocked for your use. You literally have the whole place to yourself!

During the day you can explore the ways of the mountains. Trek through the forests, collect fire wood, climb rocks, swim in the river and go catch some wild hens!

The owners, Mr Kalzan and his wife Dolma, live 5 mins walk away on a tiny village farm with their dog Rambo, 3 cows and a lamb. They have been running the Hamta Tea Stall for over 25 years. It is open all year, including winters! and serves travelers home like breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Meal plan (not included stay price)

DRINKS
Lungri - a local rice beer made here. It is white in color and very smooth. Must try!

Arak - a distilled version of Lungri. Clear in color and stronger.

Cow milk - farm fresh cow milk. Taste so much better!

FOOD
Sidu: a steamed bread stuffed with walnuts and served with ghee. So good.

Rota - a flat bread made from jaggery and whole wheat flour in home made ghee. Super breakfast.

Chilra - pancakes made from flour and jaggery and served with a vegetable side dish.

Bhedni roti: sesame and jaggery stuffed inside paratha.

Local rajma and red rice - try it!

Momos - steamed dumpling made from whole wheat flour, stuffed with veges and local herbs.

Feel the difference in taste of local vegetables: Red potatoes, white potatos (both local variety), palak, sirso, raddish, band gobi, corriander.

Also try the local farm ghee! Smells out of the world.

The place has the basic amenities and ideal for trekkers and youngsters. However if you are going with middle aged parents (like I did) they might not like the bathroom facilities. The food was great and the hosts, Kalzan uncle and Dolma aunty were very hospitable. They even made a local recipe called Siddu specially for us and it was amazing. The view both from the Dhaba and the house are amazing!

The trek to Hampta was a little bit more challenging than I had anticipated. However, the journey is absolutely worth it. Away from the touristy humdrum of Manali, Hampta and uncle and aunty's hospitality coupled with the amazing view made for a brilliant and unforgettable trip. The food was great and local and uncle and aunty made us Maggi whenever we asked which was very nice because they were concerned about the littlest of things (like how we were going to keep it warm and enjoy it. Thereby coming up with ingenious ways of keeping the Maggi hot). Their daughter in law was the greatest guide ever. She took us for a trek and made the trip pretty much beyond explanation. So yes, make a trip out of this space. You wouldn't regret it.

The view of the valley from Huzefa's place is wonderful. The food cooked by Dolma aunty at the dhaba is amazing. The place has a charm and I loved my stay here in the lap of the nature, away from all the hustle and bustle. It's a peaceful, quiet and amazing place. There were a few hiccups but Huzefa made sure that they were resolved at the earliest. I will definitely come back here some time :)

I live, ski and climb in Manali since 2014. I also teach and promote "independent trekking skills" at Blue Bolt Project as an alternative philosophy for exploring outdoors.

Best part about travelling for me is trying out local food, meeting interesting people and have unique experiences, and I would like to offer the same to the travelers visiting Manali.
