Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Nestled in the village of Amberley at the foot of the Downs. The hand-built, eco-friendly wood cabin is in the shaded, far corner of the 1 acre plot, facing south towards downland, across fields and a small pond where water birds gather.

The cabin is full of rustic charm. It is a completely secluded and tranquil place, ideal for nature lovers and those seeking a short-term escape from the hassle and bustle of city life. It provides a perfect retreat for writers or artists.

The space
The cabin is a perfect hideaway for two people, but it can comfortably accommodate up to four, and children are very welcome. Outside there is a large decking area plus a large grassed-in area all South facing, but secluded by the trees. There are seats and a fire-pit for gathering around on cooler nights, wood is provided.

Inside the layout is open plan. The kitchen area is fitted with a hob, oven, microwave and general kitchen utensils. The dining/living area has a large table, a double sofa bed and a TV. There is a doorway partitioned by a thick curtain that leads into the bedroom with a King size bed, wardrobe and a work table. There’s a spacious en-suite shower room and toilet. A large log burner in the main area heats the entire cabin, but there are also two electric radiators for colder weather.

The cabin is a wonderful place to visit in all the seasons – warm and cosy in the cooler months and blessed with dappled light during hot summer months.

Guest access
As well as the cabin quests have access to the adjacent secluded wooded area of the garden.

Other things to note
There is no immediate vehicle access to the cabin. Free parking is in a nearby street from where it is a 4 minute walk down a public footpath to the main house and the cabin at the far end of the plot. There is also a free village car park nearby.

The owners do have a beehive in a far corner of the property but the bees are well behaved and keep to themselves. Wellies are highly recommended for wet weather, and torches are essential in order to find the cabin at night.

Neighbourhood highlights

Come and explore this beautiful spot in the heart of the South Downs National Park. It is an ideal place for cyclists and walkers with the South Downs Way, and the Wetlands Nature Reserve, right on the doorstep.

Amberley is a typically picturesque Sussex village. It has a well-stocked shop/ post office, a café/tea house, and The Black Horse pub/boutique hotel offering gourmet meals with garden views of the Downs. A short walk away is the Sportsman Pub with spectacular views overlooking the Wild-brooks.

The cabin is a 15min walk away from Amberley Train Station with main-line services to Brighton & the south coast & London is 1 hour 20 mins away.

There are numerous attractions to suit all tastes in the area: the seaside is only a 20 minute drive away, as are the historic market towns of Arundel and Petworth. The impressive Elizabethan Parham house and gardens are even closer, and Amberley Museum is easy walking distance. The well-known Pig restaurant (with fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers and their own kitchen garden) is situated in the village of Madehurst, a few miles down the road. The famous Goodwood racecourse is within easy driving distance, and there are at least three easily accessible cycle paths over the Downs or more challenging such as the magical 64 mile Serpent’s Trail.

My work: Designer
Speaks English and French
I’m a designer and live with my partner Leigh and two children. We have two cats, Coco & Kasper, who although delightful company- are not allowed into the cabin! As a family we are committed to sustainable living, and have been busy with building projects to fulfil our aims. At present we are developing the garden into a haven for wildlife, and a source of organic food.
