Beautiful handmade shepherds huts finished to the highest standards. Quality fitted kitchens, en suite bathroom, fridge, oven, underfloor heating, fully equipped, BOSE sound, TV/DVD, pure sheep's wool duvets, crisp linen and fluffy towels.

The space

We have built our huts in a large plot of private woodland. The property is secluded and private with beautiful views south down the Holker Valley and across to Bigland Hall. We are rural and near a working farm. We have average phone reception, depending on network - a good excuse to get away from it all! We have a land line should you need. The nearest town (6 miles) is the charming Ulverston, a quaint market town. There is a supermarket, plenty of bespoke and individual shops with its beautiful cobbled streets and market twice a week.

We are only 20 minutes from M6, but a million miles from the rat race!

Guest access

You will have exclusive use of the huts, arctic cabin, lawn area and the surrounding woodland. We have oodles of parking space, with you own gated access.

Interaction with guests

You can mingle with the occupants of our huts in our arctic hut, complete with bbq/fire pit for cosy nights around the campfire! You can cook your catch or simply relax over a few drinks in a cosy setting under the woodland stars.

Other things to note

We are located in the Lake District National Park a 15 minute walk from Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway Station, from here you can enjoy a steam train ride to Lakeside (via Newby Bridge) onto the Steamers of Windermere Lake Cruises. From Lakeside you can sail up and Windermere from top to bottom. Windermere (the longest in England) is a 5 minute drive. We are conveniently located 15 minutes from Grizedale Forest where you can undertake miles of good cycling trails or enjoy a woodland walk. Outside your front door is a series of trails, known as Haverthwaite heights. This allows you a quick ascent to the beautiful views of Morecambe Bay or in the other direction, the charming Rusland Valley and Coniston old man.
Cartmel - the beautiful famous village with it's amazing 12th century church, and home of the yummy "Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding " plus the national acclaimed award winning 3 star Michelin starred restaurant -Le' clume is just a 10 min drive away
Ulverston -a small "arty" town - is 6 miles away
With its cobbled streets and individuals designer shops is a great place to visit

We loved staying here! Was an awesome experience and was just what we were looking for. While the hut was small, it was big enough for the 4 of us adults to stay (we could have probably fit another!) and we all slept like babies. The mattresses were all comfortable, including the sofa bed which was not like typical sofa beds. Plenty of hot water, all the necessities. Definitely would stay here again!!

The hut was very comfortable and the BBQ is great. It was very clean. They had tea and coffee so we could get up and have a sip before we started our day. It was perfect.

The Woodmans Huts are beautifully furnished with thoughtful finishing touches. The Huts are compact but very well equipped. Perfect for a weekend break and the children loved the cosy bunk beds and the BBQ hut. Great location for visiting the south lakes and we can definitely recommend a visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum and a train/boat trip from Haverthwaite railway.

The hut was very clean and had all the necessary amenities. Elizabeth and her husband were very nice and polite as well. The only thing that I could wish was that the place was bigger. Unfortunately if you are a group of 3-4 people you will have to close the luggages if you want to open the bed since the cabin is quite small. Everything else was perfect.

We are a couple born and bred in the Lake District, South Cumbria. The "Woodmans Huts" are part of our family home, where we have lived for nearly 30 years.
The Shepherds Huts have been hand built by us, which has been a real labour of love.
We like nothing more than going round antique fairs and auctions and our eclectic style of interior design for the huts has been sourced from all over the country, in fact the world ! The single window shutter found in the bathroom of the four berth hut was bought in a junk shop in California, Liz hid it in the bottom of her suitcase unbeknown to me ! So everything has a 'tale to tell "!
We are an easy going, home loving couple.
We will welcome you to our lovely huts ensuring you enjoy our beautiful Lake District.
