Perched on a hill on the edge of the Medina, this is an area combining narrow lanes and traditional neighbourhoods with majestic old villas. The apartment dates from the 1920s; staying here feels like inhabiting an earlier era. Quaint and beautifully decorated

The space

This spacious and high-ceilinged apartment is part of a network of centrally-located properties in Athens, Beirut, Istanbul and Tunis, dedicated to reminding us of an earlier, kinder period of cosmopolitan coexistence in the Mediterranean.
Built in the 1920s, it is 120m2 and composed of a bedroom, a study, a large living room, a storage room, a kitchen, a bathroom and three balconies. It is on the second floor of a hill rising over the Medina of Tunis and facing a hill atop which a Sufi shrine is perched. It's easily accessible from the center on foot and exquisitely quiet. It possesses gas-powered heating and plug-in electrical bodies for the winter, and two a/c units in the living room and bedroom for the summer.

I truly enjoyed my stay in Tunis at Iason's apartment. Exactly as described, full of charm, bright, spacious and nested in a historic neighbourhood within a few minutes walk from the Medina. You can see both the sea and the Zeitouna Mosque from the various balconies of the apartment! I had all the comfort I needed, including a great Internet connection. Iason was available at all times for any questions, besides offering a lot of insight on Tunis. His friend Aymen welcomed us, and took us for a stroll around the city - very kind and helpful! If you want to enjoy an authentic stay in downtown Tunis through both the fascinating calm of an historic apartment furnished with great taste, and the buzzling life in nearby Medina, you should get in touch with Iason. Thank you very much, Iason. Looking forward to my next visit!

I stayed three nights in Iason's place in Tunis, with four friends. There was plenty of room for all of us and we enjoyed the stay a lot. The flat is located in a nice area of the city, 10 minutes from downtown by cab or car. The building and the flat are charming, with beautiful decor. The flat itself is very comfortable, with two seperate bedrooms, plus the possibility of using the living room couch as a large comfortable bed. Iason was very fast to reply to us. He wasn't in town during our stay but had his friend Aymen check us in. Aymen actually met us downtown to show us the way and was very available for us in case we needed anything, but we were perfectly accomodated already and everything went well. A great example of the tunisian hospitality that we experienced throughout our stay, during the amazing film festival "Journées cinématographiques de Carthage".

For those who want the faded elegance of colonial-era Tunis, this is a terrific place to stay. It feels like you are really living here. If you're super-picky about the details and need everything to be sleek and new, this may not be right for you. The location is outstanding; it's only a five-minute walk to the edge of the medina (about 20 to the middle of downtown) but the neighborhood is quiet and feels, well, neighborly. After the crowded media it was a relief to come back here. Parking was easy to find right in front of the building. Iason's friend was incredibly welcoming and we were grateful he had time to introduce us to his city.

Iasons apartment is huge and beautiful, right next to the center and with a view over the whole city. You can hear the muezzins of the Medina in a rocking chair in the evening sun. You can't ask for more. Just the bathroom doesn't really match the general standard of the apartment. Iason himself is a caring and kind host! Perfect.

Although I didn't get to meet Iason, he was always contactable and an excellent communicator. He arranged for his friend to meet me off the train and show me around, and he could not have been more generous and helpful in his welcome - thank you, Aymon. The apartment has a few very nice pieces of furniture in it and it is in an OK area. However, despite these positives, I cannot recommend the apartment in its current condition - quite frankly, it is dirty and shabby and in dire need of renovation and a spring clean; overall, quite uninviting.

The flat is really really nice, bright and fully furnished. It is located in a quiete neighborhood with a walkable distance to medina and Bourguiba road. Iason is a prompt host, he replies very quickly to every message.

I've been travelling since my mother bundled me onto a bumpy transatlantic Olympic Airways flight in 1979, a few months after I was born. Since then, I've learned to share less of my tears, screams, and dinner portions with fellow travellers.
Now, I work as a Mediterraneanist, meaning that I write and make films seeking to raise awareness about the heritage-at-risk of the body of water connecting the three cities I live in: Athens, Istanbul and Tunis.
