A beautifully restored colonial built in 1850 in the quiet village of Lanesville, Gloucester, on designated scenic route 127. A short walk to the rugged rocky coast, the lobstering harbor in Lanes Cove, and Plum Cove Beach, you can watch beautiful sunsets over Ipswich Bay. We are a 5 min drive to Halibut Point State Park, and 10 minute drive to the arts village of Rockport. Other rooms available if you are traveling with friends and family. Health Dept. Licensed.

The space

This is the Gloucester Room, with photos of Gloucester harbor with historic sailing vessels, fishing boats and St Peter's Fiesta. This is one of two charming rooms on the second floor, with antique furniture, cozy comforter when cold and air conditioning when hot. If both rooms are occupied, guests share a bathroom down the hall. This room has a queen size bed with a highly rated mattress. Hosts live on the first floor. We desire to share this gracious home and beautiful coastline and wooded areas with others that are nourished through creation and creativity.

Guest access

In a beautiful dining room on the first floor you can serve yourself a continental breakfast of fruit and fresh scones, cereals, and coffee or tea. In fact you have access to this room anytime to store your leftover meal in refrigerator or have ice. We have a large backyard with lawn chairs and a granite picnic table for your use.

Interaction with guests

Either Judith or Mark will be available when you arrive to tell you about the house, the beautiful, natural environment, the village of Lanesville, all kinds of recreational opportunities nearby, the Flat Rocks Gallery across the street and of course all the restaurants, museums, and the historic harbor (oldest in the US) in downtown Gloucester. We will respect your space if you are here for a quiet retreat, or be available for questions if you prefer to learn more about the unique history of the area. Judith's mother's family were one of the first to settle the nearby town of Rockport, and were foundational to the Gloucester fishing industry for centuries . Her father's family were Swedes that operated a boarding home in nearby Folly Cove for the Finish granite cutters. We are open to socializing more if you let us know you are interested.

Other things to note

Although in Gloucester, Lanesville is a neighborhood very close to Rockport, with a beautiful harbor known for lobstering, lots of restaurants (in the summer) and many art galleries, and the state of the art Shalin Lu Theater for outstanding music performances. In downtown Gloucester you will find a historic seaport, the outstanding Cape Ann Museum and Maritime Gloucester Heritage Center, lots of restaurants for the finest seafood and other choices. There are countless special events and celebrations, including the famous St. Peter's Fiesta in late June.

Judith's house was very comfortable and immaculate. The room was a perfect size for my husband and I and well equipped with a comfortable bed, fresh towels and AC or a fan. The location is a short drive to Gloucester or Rockport.

Beautiful, cozy, quiet stay in a historic part of Gloucester. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and came with amenities like towels, soap, air conditioning, extra blankets, etc. Sharing a bathroom with another couple on the 2nd floor wasn't as big of a deal as I thought it was going to be. Judith and Mark serve a beautiful breakfast of fruit, muffins, coffee, yogurt, etc. every morning. Judith and Mark were very polite and cautious of the guests' privacy, but were also there when we had questions. Their black lab, Lucy, was so cute, friendly, gentle, and quiet. We loved being greeted by her :) Be aware that this home isn't within walking distance of Gloucester attractions, but it is a short drive to downtown Gloucester, Rockport, and other parts of Cape Ann. Great parking in front of the house. Overall, a lovely, relaxing stay. I would recommend and stay again in my future Cape Ann visits.

The house is located in a strategic area, easy to reach you can get to Gloucester or Rockport in few minutes. The road is not noisy at all located in a fascinating neighborhood. We are still missing our stay. The host was incredibly helpful in providing suggestions and made us feeling at home. Unforgettable experience!

Just wonderful! Felt more like a bed and breakfast than just a room in an airbnb -- lovely room and lovely breakfast in the morning! Great house, great hosts, highly recommend!

Judith and Mark were wonderful hosts. Judith was very responsive for a short turnaround reservation, and Mark greeted us when we arrived and gave us plenty of nice recommendations for our stay in town. The house is beautiful, and the neighborhood is perfect.
