About this listing
Private bedroom in country home. Includes queen size bed, chair, TV/DVD, mini fridge, attached bathroom. 5-10 minute drive from Ames.
If stay is only a couple of days, then treat the space like a hotel.
However, if you are staying for weeks at a time, treat it like an apartment. For example, you will expected buy your own toilet paper and do your own laundry.
Spacious private room with attached bathroom.
Access to entire house if needed, including kitchen, washer/dryer, 70inch TV. Please note that the rest of the house outside of your bedroom is basically a construction zone, but still usable.
Interaction with guests
We are not often home. We stay pretty busy and will likely not be around except in passing.
Other things to note
Some areas of the house are being renovated and are under construction. Will not affect your room or stay in any way. We have three dogs which may occasionally wander around the house if we are not there.
There is no internet here. NO WIFI.
The driveway is a single lane paved road - look ahead for oncoming traffic.
Outside of city limits, house numbers can be found on blue signs at the end of the driveway.
We work very weird hours. Sometimes we do not come home until 3-4am. We will try to be as quiet as possible. We apologize if this is an inconvenience.
We have limited space, so please park next to the truck at the back of the driveway. Also, please park straight and as far back as possible without hitting the pole.
Please make sure to always shut the front door. Don’t worry about being gentle or quiet, I would rather my dogs don’t escape. Also, we do not lock the front door, so you shouldn’t either.
Our dogs bark. They do not need anything, that’s just how they react when people pull into the driveway or open the door. They will stop.
You can play with the dogs, they are friendly. The bigger one is Copper, he is a Hound, he is very friendly and loves belly rubs. The medium-sized, orange one is Mya, she is a Border Collie Mix, she is loud and extremely hyper. The tiny one with the perky ears is Kobi, he's shy and lets out tiny howls when he thinks no one is home. The basement is their domain.
Copper and Kobi are fairly new to our family. We are still getting to know both of them and we apologize for any instances that may occur with them.
There is a mini fridge in your room to use. If you have more or bigger items, don’t hesitate to ask to use the actual fridge.
We do not have wifi, we apologize. The trees make it impossible for any over the air signals to reach our house. We don’t like it either.
If you need any recommendations like restaurants, bars, bike trails, running spots, supermarkets or gyms, we can definitely help out.
We understand that for a whole variety of reasons, you may want additional guests to stay with you. In the event that you want additional guests to stay, please contact us to let us know. However, we do not want strangers in our home we are not there, so you must double check with us before bringing anyone over. We’re reasonable and will accommodate wherever possible. Animals count as guests, too. We would prefer that your pets stay in your designated room. Please make sure to wait to introduce your dogs to ours until we are there to supervise.
Us and Our Belongings
Due to previous guests, we feel that this needs to be added to the rules. I apologize if it sounds rude:
At no point can you ask us for money, food, or handouts. We rent out our room to you to make money for renovations on our house.
If you did not buy the food in the fridge or kitchen, do not eat it. It’s ours and we purchased it for our own use.
Please do not take things from other rooms and put them in the room you have rented, and then take them when you leave. We can and will charge you through Air BnB if things go mysteriously missing.
If at any point these three things happen, we have the right to ask you to leave without a refund.
Smoking is NOT allowed anywhere on our or any of our neighbors’ property.
The three bedrooms downstairs and the room across the hall from your room are off limits. Also, the upstairs living room is currently blocked off for renovations.
There are two trash bins in your room, there is also one in the kitchen. If those are full, there are trash bags under the kitchen sink and you can leave the full bag inside the door of the garage. If you use dishes or have your own, you can clean them by hand or use the dishwasher. If you use the dishwasher, please make sure it is full. Tablets are under the sink. If you need/want to clean your bathroom, there are cleaning products under the bathroom sink. The vacuum, if you need it, is in the hallway closet outside of your room (right door).
Even though we do a thorough professional clean between each guest stay, we kindly ask that prior to leaving, you clean and put away any dishes or kitchenware used and put any dirty towels in the hamper. It helps us get through our cleaning process quicker and allows us to keep cleaning costs down for you and future guests.
We understand that accidents happen. But we do ask that you please let us know when they do. Chances are we can easily fix them.
The laundry machines are downstairs. They are pretty self-explanatory. To shut and lock the doors, lift up slightly and then shut them. The dials program everything for you, so twist it to your choice and press the start button.
We have provided a certain amount of towels, sheets, and pillows. Due to previous accounts, we ask that they all remain in our house and do not leave with you when you check-out.
We do not have them, mainly because with our sporadic schedule, we cannot follow them ourselves.
