This is a very cute apartment in an old mental hospital that has been converted to condominiums, shops, galleries and restaurants. Some of the restaurants are very good, especially Trattoria Stella. We stayed for 4 nights and during our stay there was a fall festival on the grounds, which are lovely. No grocery store within the complex, but there are some within a short drive. It is a few minutes from downtown Traverse City by car. The apartment's bedroom is on the second floor. It is a loft area overlooking the living room. The black spiral metal staircase is probably not great for small children or elderly folks. It was fine for us. There is a full bathroom upstairs and a half bath downstairs. We found the bed to be quite comfortable. Between floors there is a large landing with a twin bed and a desk. When we arrived we observed that there wasn't much toilet paper or paper towels, or a hair dryer (I had wrongly assumed there would be one there) but Chelsea was very responsive and brought those items over the next day. We did not use the kitchen so I cannot speak to that but it appeared to be clean and functional. The windows in the apartment let in abundant natural light; there is also a fair amount of light coming in at night but it was fine with us. I only mention it for those folks who like it really dark for sleeping.

We enjoyed trying The Commons for our recent visit to Traverse City. Very quiet when your on the residential floors. Easy access to our favorite area restaurant - Trattoria Stella. Hiking trails are ok, so we spent a lot of time on the peninsulas exploring. Nice place to stay just a mile from TC's vibrant downtown.

Chelsea's place was great! The place was perfect for a weekend getaway. The complex it's located in has great restaurants and shopping. Chelsea was responsive and friendly. The whole process was seamless.

This property is competitive with hotels during the high season, but with so much more to offer--a cool, beautifully-decorated apartment in a unique and historic property with kitchen (microwave, stove, fridge, sink, toaster), balcony, and on-site stores, restaurants, coffee, bakery, and walking/hiking/biking trails. Internet TV also available. A quick drive to downtown/beach and conveniently located to head west or out on the peninsulas as well. Three of us were quite comfortable (we were a husband and wife sharing bed, and a 9-y-old in the loft; there was room for another kid on the trundle, someone on the sofa, and someone on a blow-up mattress if necessary!). Note that the only access to the sleeping quarters is through a metal spiral staircase, so the property is inappropriate for the older/disabled and for very young children. Great space!
