The space
Resting on over 14 private acres, Heroncrest was built circa 1840 and boasts scenic ocean views, gracious lawns, perennial gardens and southern exposure. Enjoy sunrises, sunsets and moonlight over picturesque Penobscot Bay in this house furnished with antiques and original art.

There are 3 bathrooms: the downstairs one has a handicap-friendly walk-in shower, one bathroom upstairs has a charming claw foot tub, the other upstairs bathroom has a tub / shower unit. Two bedrooms upstairs have exquisite views of the water and distant islands through the dormer windows. The third upstairs bedroom has a queen bed in a cozy little alcove. The south facing bedroom downstairs also has water views while the other bedroom downstairs has a quiet view to the back woods.

The dining room offers water views to the south. Sliding glass doors lead to a peaceful deck facing the back lawn and woods. The living room, den and upstairs playroom lend private space to all. Included are 100% cotton linens, large towels and a washer and dryer on the main floor.

The well equipped kitchen is stocked with tasty coffee beans and mill, assorted teas, sugar, spices, olive oil and wine vinegar. There is even a stand of garlic right off the kitchen entry door!

For the rainy days, there is internet connection, tv, dvds, and some board games. Or you can grab a book from the shelf and curl up for a good read in front of the fireplace.

Up the hill behind Heroncrest is a wooded 100 acre wildlife preserve, great for snowshoeing in winter and wandering in summer.

Heroncrest is within a mile of downtown Searsport's fabulous rotunda library, antique shops, eateries and the famous Penobscot Maritime Museum. About the same distance from the house is Moosepoint State Park. On occasion, a beautiful wild orchid can be seen along the footpath there. Belfast, with its Friday night art walks, farmer's market and seasonal festivals is 10 minutes away. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are within an hours drive.

Midcoast Maine has bus service that will take you to within a mile of the house. However, if you wish to explore all there is in the area, a car would be of the essence. There is a car safety seat , some life vests, a pack and play and a booster seat for the table available at the house for our young guests.

Come share this slice of heaven with family and friends!

Cobb Road is a road ending in a 100 acre nature preserve. There is normal activity from the 5 or 6 families who live on Cobb Road, including an occasional noisy school bus and people driving down the road.
The house grounds are private and set back a little from the road.

I grew up on a dairy farm with 5 siblings in Chester County, PA. From the time I was a teenager, my panacea was to spend a week on Islesford in Maine where I painted pictures, made stained glass windows out of found beach glass, played Mozart on the piano and read and discussed poetry with my writer/artist friends. Raised as an activist Quaker, I worked with voter registration in Mississippi, did community organization and helped teenagers get their GED's in eastern Kentucky, taught art in a community college in Harlan County, Kentucky and established one of the first Parent Child Centers that addressed education from birth to three. Because I felt strongly about being with my children from birth to three, I started a small retail business that has since morphed into two retail shops in northern Colorado where we specialize in comfort footwear and clothing. My daughter Maia manages one of our shops where she brings my 3 year old granddaughter Artemis to help in the same way her mother helped me many years ago. Back to Maine. Ever since I was a teenager, I wanted a place in Maine. After searching for over a year, I discovered the slice of heaven that is Heroncrest. It is private and sunny and the views out to the islands are postcard perfect. And it feels so safe! The neighbors are salt of the earth and I would love to share the magic that I found so many years ago with any who wish to create their own memories.
