BEFORE YOU BOOK, PLEASE UNDERSTAND The Bank is an historic building with heritage listing. This means:
• All three bedrooms share use of the bathroom & toilet, located on the mezzanine landing, plus an extra toilet downstairs: we ask you to always be mindful and respectful of your fellow guests, you know what we mean!
•The Bathroom is old-style with the shower over the bath.
•The bedrooms are all on the first floor, so you need to be stair-fit
•Heaters are in each room, as town can be cold and there is of course no central heating. Each bedroom also has a heater and electric blanket.
• The Bank aims to be a sanctuary of peace in an otherwise frantic and noisy world. Please enjoy and value this. There are no Televisions or screens, deliberately. None. Really! There is however books, games, music & Wi-Fi……
Other spaces suitable for large gatherings, workshops, retreats, and office spaces both short or longer term are also available in The Bank, please talk to us about your needs.
You can relax, spread out and enjoy yourself anywhere in the entire Guest House!
If you book by the individual bedroom, your door has an individual key lock for your privacy and security.
Interaction with guests
The Bank has been our most amazing home for many years, but we are now so frequently away, we have opened it up as a Guesthouse.
You may meet us, but we absolutely respect your privacy and right to enjoy the many lovely spaces, so we stay in another area of our Bank when we are home (the place is HUGE!)
You will meet our friendly local house keeper, who's in each day. Feel free to have a chat, or quiz her on local knowledge. And like her, we are also at the end of the phone always should you have any questions.
Glen Innes is known for it's clean mountain air, lovely rolling New England countryside, glorious town parks (Autumn is breathtaking!), stately heritage-listed buildings, book shops, cafes, boutiques and collectables shops. It is also the gateway to some truly amazing National Parks, and gemstone fossicking!
And we are in the very centre of it all!!!!!
-Celtic history: Sunrise and sunset (our favourite) over The Australian Standing Stones, the piper on the balcony of Town Hall every Friday midday, and the many local characters
-A heritage self guided walk around town,to see 30 charming and diverse properties (including of course our Bank)
-the treasure trove that is the Beardies House museum
Further a field:
-World Class truly spectacular National Parks including World-Heritage listed Washpool and Gibraltar Range national parks
-Rich gemstone fossicking (some locals live off this)
-Fishing, bush walking, horse riding
-The villages: drive to Emmaville for some authentic early mining history, Torrington for some wild Australian country
-The beautiful and cultured New England university town of Armidale, one hour south
The huge Visitor Information Centre, a fabulous resource staffed by friendly locals who know everything about the area is well worth a visit for information on absolutely everything!
Check out the website, that's the leader of our local pipe band on home page, quite a local character you likely will run into!
The Bank is right in the very heart of town, in the main street.
We recommend the simple pleasure of walking to get around... to the shops and cafes if you turn right coming out of the door onto Meade St, and of course the amazing landscaped Town Park complete with rotunda (picnic, anyone?) if you turn left. You can't miss it!
If you choose to enjoy one of the local hotels for the evening, you will not get lost... They are opposite!
The Beardies History house, swimming pool, skate park and hospital are all a short walk along through the park.
The Visitor Information Centre, a fabulous resource, is a very short walk up Meade St past McDonalds, turn right. Strongly recommend you drop in.
The spectacular Standing Stones (a must see at sunrise or sunset) are a 1.8km (3.6km return) walk straight up Meade St.
The local taxi service can be booked on ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Greyhound bus links Glen Innes to Brisbane, Grafton (East coast) and Sydney daily.
Other things to note
Car parking is easy, safe and free on Meade St, directly at the side of The Bank.
Our rules are simple, out of respect for everone's peace, enjoyment and safety:
•No smoking. That is absolute.
•No parties. Don't bring home any visitors or un-booked guests, it's not fair on anyone.
•No pets. We apologise, because we love pets, but not everyone does.
• Absolutely do not light fires including candles anywhere.
•Respect your fellow guests, and the spaces we have created for you to enjoy: leave communal areas clean and tidy always, pick up and wash up after yourself, and no loud noise or behaviour at any time.
Also, don't overstay your welcome in the bathroom, and compromise someone else's comfort!
(There is a second toilet downstairs)
That's it in a nutshell. We will email you the full rules with confirmation of your booking.
We are Cheryl & Dan, both professionals with grown up family, and have the most amazing place we call home, a spectacular historic bank building from the 1880's which we have lovingy converted over the last 8 years from a bank to a wonderful home, and now also a separate 3 bedroom guesthouse to share with you. We love this place!
We also both love music (both to play and listen), dancing, great conversation, good food, writing and art, family and friends, all animals and being in nature. We believe in being happy, and sharing it!
We also love airbnb, recently staying in some great places in America and Canada. The whole idea is great, connection with locals, staying in places often not accessable to tourists...
We are often away (so you may not meet us) but when we are home we have our own area in The Bank, so we are not intrusive on you when you stay in the Guest House. We are always at the end of the phone should you need anything.
We encourage you to use all the spaces, relax and enjoy!
