Puyallup hosts Washington's State Fair and is the gateway to Mt. Rainier. Situated 8 miles east of Tacoma, we are centrally located to all that nature has to offer here in the Pacific Northwest. Take a day trip to Vancouver, BC or Portland, OR.
Our newly constructed 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home, featuring hardwood floors and granite / marble counter tops throughout, is snuggled in the foothills of Mt. Rainier on the southeast edge of the Seattle metro area. The guest wing features two private bedrooms (one set up as an entertainment lounge with full size day bed) and a private full bath.
The summit of Mt. Rainier is approximately 19 miles southeast and 14,000 feet above our home. Via road, the Carbon River entrance to the park is 32 miles and the Nisqually entrance is 43 miles down winding mountain highways which begin near our home. Seattle is a 40 minute drive or a comfortable ride on commuter rail. Tacoma is 8 miles west; a destination in itself, the city's famed Tacoma Narrows Bridge also permits access to the Kitsap Peninsula and Olympic National Park beyond. To the south, Mount Saint Helens Volcanic Monument is a 2 hour drive, with Portland, Oregon just an hour beyond that. The Pacific Ocean beaches are approximately 70 minutes to the west. Vancouver, British Columbia is a 3 hour drive to the north or a relaxing ride on Amtrak's Cascades line which has a stop in Tacoma.
As for young children, my sister (mother of 3 young boys) would point out that we have a glass coffee table and many glass decorations. Our home is a block away from a small neighborhood park. We offer a comfortable stay surrounded by the best of the Northwest!
Our guest wing is composed of three rooms for your private use during your stay.
The first is a private bedroom with a full-size cherry bedroom set, complete with 7 large drawers and a full closet to allow you to comfortably spread out during your stay. The plush pillow top mattress is perfect for those who enjoy soft bedding. A luggage rack is provided for your convenience, as well as a separate oil heater (in addition to the central heat) and window air conditioning unit so that you may adjust the climate to perfection. On a clear evening, the sunset perfectly silhouettes the Olympic peaks across the Sound.
The second private bedroom doubles as an entertainment lounge, with a full-sized day bed which also functions as a large sofa. The memory foam mattress is firm, as opposed to the soft pillow-top mattress in the first bedroom, allowing you to find your Goldilocks zone. An oak armoire opens to a Bose Sound System and 32" smart LED television with internet access, allowing you to stream your favorite online programming, such as Hulu and Netflix, as well as 13 local stations. The large window overlooks a small neighborhood park down the block.
Across the hallway is a private bathroom with dual sinks, shower/tub combo, and toilet. A white marble counter top and glass shower door provide a bright, modern setting while the privacy-screened window opens the room without compromising modesty.
Finally, guests have access to our living room, kitchen, and our spacious back yard, garden, and orchard. The back yard has a large paver patio with night time lighting and table which comfortably seats six. Nearby is a second paver patio featuring an easy-start propane fire pit with seating for two. For those rainy winter days, our covered back porch has two plush lounge chairs in which to snuggle in a blanket with a latte and watch the rain fall in the surrounding woods. If you prefer a more social outdoor setting, our covered front porch features a love seat with views of the neighborhood. [It rarely is cold enough to snow at our home, though the snowiest place on Earth (where snow levels are recorded) is just up the road -- Paradise at Mt. Rainier.] A small neighborhood park is located just a block away from our front yard.
Interaction with guests
We enjoy company and are happy to welcome you into our home. If you prefer more privacy and less interaction we are perfectly fine with that -- whatever makes you most comfortable. The guest area is in a separate wing upstairs and provides ample privacy.
Other things to note
Our home was constructed in October 2015.
Our home features hardwood floors throughout the common areas with tiled bathroom floors and granite / marble counter tops.
We have a large backyard, garden, and orchard in addition to a terraced slope filled with grape and kiwi vines. It includes a large patio with a table which comfortably seats six. A separate patio area features a propane fire pit with seating for two. For those rainy months, we have two covered porches with seating -- perfect for curling up under a blanket with a warm latte and a good book while the rain falls in the surrounding second-growth forest.
Children are welcome and we've had several stay with us, but be aware that there are hard surfaces, glass table tops, and sharp corners in our home. That said, parents are in the best position to determine whether or not a place is right for their kids, and we have provided extensive photos to aid with that decision.
Supervising your child at all times is required. We have never had an injury and definitely want to keep everyone, including our youngest guests, safe.
Alcohol is permitted and we'll join you in a glass if asked! Just no drunken parties please. Our state now permits the use of marijuana and while we do not partake you may do so in the backyard if you so desire. Of course, we are not a hotel and ask that you treat our home with the same care we do. Clean up after yourself, don't break our things or any local laws, and it will all be good!
