About this listing

A great place to live the quintessential "ancient Rome" experience in one of the most characteristic neighborhoods. Quiet, cozy and well priced.

The space

Update May 2016: We now have unlimited hot water (brand new tank) and a new air-conditioner as well!

Studio della Scala is a perfect getaway for those who want to live the quintessential 'Trastevere' experience. Cozy, intimate, and very Roman!

Located in the heart of Trastevere, on the second floor of a typical historic XVII century building. Surprisingly silent (set on a pedestrian street, its windows and balcony leading out to the courtyard) the studio has been renovated a few years back (maintaining its characteristic charm, of course!) and is well looked after. Upon entering you'll find yourself in a small corridor, then an open space living room, a double sofa bed, table and chairs. In an area separated from the main part is the 'bedroom' area with double bed. On the other side of the room, there's a bathroom (with bathtub) leading out to a small sunny balcony (facing the courtyard and equipped with chairs and a small table) Exposed wood-beam ceiling, real parquet flooring, a tiny but well equipped kitchenette, a a Microwave, A/C, independent heating, Wi-fi Internet, Towels and Sheets, it's all there, as well as books for you to read, maps, information on the city.
We believe his is a great little home away from home which will allow you to live and feel the city. It's not a (..5 star..) hotel and it's an old apartment - which we find to be part of its charm). Keep this in mind when booking though! If you like your things new and shiny, this might not be for you. Just saying!

Trastevere is a historic neighborhood just across the river from the more conventional "Centro storico" of Rome. The Tiber river and two of Trastevere's most famous squares, Piazza Trilussa and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, are each only about a 2 minute walk from the studio, and crossing one of the many bridges you'll be at Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon in no time (less than 30 minutes by foot). Other sites such as the Vatican (about 40 minutes by foot or an easy bus ride), Castel S. Angelo and the Colosseum are also within easy reach.
The neighborhood used to be "blue-collar", and still today there's only small houses (most of them dating back to the XVII century) and cobblestone streets. It's what you imagine Rome to be: narrow streets, old little houses, Romantic piazzas (with warm orange street lights at night!), little cafes and restaurants, Roman lifestyle and of course (especially during high season) some tourists (how could they miss out on such a gem!). It's a nice mixture of 'real' and 'touristy' Rome, and definitely very picturesque.

There's also a lot of cultural events happening in the neighborhood (exhibitions, small movie theaters and theaters),  and interesting little unconventional shops all around. You won't miss a thing here (we hope): the kitchenette, although tiny, has everything one would need: pots, pans, cups, wine glasses, microwave, coffee-machine, teapot…

Rosanna's place was perfect and exactly what we wanted and needed for our 3 day stay in Rome: location is perfect in the old Rome area of Trastevere, which is lovely and quiet in the day, just south of the river and walking distance to all tourist places, and super lively in the evening with bars and restaurants. We loved the vibe of the apartment, with wooden beams on the ceiling, and authentic features, bed was SUPER comfortable, aircon really helped at night as it was between 39-41°C when we were there. Kitchen is quite small so not ideal if you're intending to cook, but we knew this and didn't even think a second about cooking in the flat as there are so many great places to eat and great food to discover all around! We even enjoyed a glass of wine at the end of the day of the balcony when the sun came down. Communication with Rosanna was smooth and easy, I would absolutely recommend this place for a stay in Rome, and would love to come back. Alix & Nathan

Great location and easy to communicate with Rosana. She was very flexible and helping us get the keys when we arrived late due to a train delay. The apartment could have been a bit cleaner but was perfect for one night!

A great place to stay in Rome. It is right across the Tiber river and is close to most tourist attractions. Plenty of cafes and restaurants in the vicinity. Rosana's small guide to the city is quite helpful for first time travellers.

The location is amazing, one of the best spots to stay in Rome for sure! So many great restaurants and bars around, and it was easy to get to tourist sites on foot.

Rosana's apartment was a lovely, cozy place in the heart of Trastevere. It was quiet despite its central location, and Rosana was incredibly helpful with directions and arranging a lift from the airport. Easy to walk to just about anywhere and a calm place to return to after a day out and about.

Excellent location! Easy walking to many major sites and many good restaurants close by. Its an old building with good sound insulation so even though there was lots of nightlife outside, we were not aware of any noise. Rosana left a detailed booklet of helpful information about transit, grocery shopping, restaurants etc. There are also maps and books abut Italy and Rome. It was hot when we were there so the air conditioning was amazing. The only downside was that the place could use a deep clean. It was dusty and a bit tired feeling.

My husband and I had the best stay in Rosana's home! Her home was so cozy, will all amenities needed, air conditioning (we were there in July!), and a little balcony. She also left a binder with so much information about sightseeing in tone. The location is absolutely perfect, Trastavere is an amazing location in Rome- full of hip shops and restaurants, and walking distance to everything! We walked to all the main tourist attractions. We ate at amazing restaurants right near the apartment- you do not have to go far for food/drink and a fun and relaxing evening. Rosana was so responsive and welcoming. Highly recommend her home to travelers!!

Hi I'm Rosana, I love life and I love Rome! Together with my two good friends Laura and Yuli we are taking care of our little gem here in Trastevere. We adore it very much, and hope you will, too.
