The space
Arguably, the best view of "The Valley." They will not disappoint. Guests say the pics we post on the airbnb site do not do it justice! The main mountain road stays quiet. The tent sits well above the road & back into the land. The area is private & quiet, especially in the evenings. The private driveway is only shared with our cabin much higher up (a few switchbacks). The tent cannot be seen (or heard) from the cabin- complete privacy & very quiet. The site sits at approximately 3900 ft elevation. In the cooler months, 2 heaters AND a "tiny stove" (woodburning stove) keep you nice & toasty. Our bedding is also very warm with cozy layers.
Seating Area - inside the tent, the futon can be converted from couch, to chaise, and even to single bed for petite adult or teenagers. The coffee tabletop raises up to act as a working space, to watch movies you have downloaded onto your devices, or to dine inside on colder or rainy evenings, if you prefer. 2 porch chairs are on the deck with a small table/stool for morning coffee and/or evening cocktails.
The bed is Queen size, with a memory foam mattress. Guests rave about its comfort! We provide 2 soft & 2 firmer pillows in an effort to appeal to most people. There is a ceiling fan in the tent & temperatures typically run 8-10 degrees cooler than in the Valley, making for comfortable stays even in the middle of summer. 2 heaters & a wood burning stove keep you warm in the fall/winter. We have a mosquito screen that zips on the front of the tent & monthly pest control, so you aren't fighting mosquitos during your stay.
The bedding is upscale - We provide luxury sheets, a quilt, and a thicker duvet on the end of the bed. Several cozy throw blankets & an electric blanket are also available for those who run cold, especially in the late fall / early winter.
Island / Kitchenette - eating utensils, glasses, soup bowls, and other kitchen basics (i.e. can opener, cork screw, shaker for mixing drinks & cutting board) provided. Small refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee maker & a 5 gallon glass dispenser filled with drinking (well) water is in the tent also.
Covered, lit, grill area & outdoor sink are on the property (see additional pics that show additions made in Mar 2024). Propane grill & outdoor firepit are in the private side yard. Grill hamburgers & steaks, roast hot dogs, and make smores in the evenings!
*Wood burning stove has been upgraded from tiny stove to full size stove for more heat & less confusion & work! *
A wood stove & 2 portable electric heaters with blowers & thermostats are inside the tent to keep you cozy when it's chilly. We provide warm bedding for chilly nights. We also provide an electric blanket in the tent as well. Guests have stayed when temps dipped into the teens & reported they stayed cozy!
Porch / fireside personal quilts x 4 are stored inside the top of the coffee table for guests to use while outside. Table top is hinged & raises for storage, dining, games, & computer use.
Speaking of the porch...The sunrises are spectacular!! Sit on the porch with coffee or pull back the front of the tent & jump back in bed for sunrise - the views are great either way. Nighttime views of The Valley are also incredible!
Private bath house is 5 steps from the tent door. The heated bath house is being remodeled Jan-Feb 2026. The shower pan stock-tank is being replaced with river rock tile flooring, expanding the shower area to provide a more relaxing, spacious experience! New pics to be uploaded in Mar 2026. Barn-style windows in the shower can be opened for expansive, fantastic views while showering, as well. There is an air-forced heater in the bath house on a thermostat that warms the space up VERY nicely. With the touch of a knob, you can make it warmer or cooler.
There is a fence across the extremely steep drop off just in front of the tent porch on front part of property. There is fencing all across the front of the property, but large gaps. Therefore, children must be 14 y.o. or older to accompany you on our property & parents should be onsite with them at all times. The property is not safe for infants, or younger children. - Safety is our #1 priority.
No WIFI, but EXCELLENT cell service. You can make phone calls, fb, insta, tweet, etc., 'til your heart is content! All we ask is that you tag us with your favorite pics from your stay.
Download your favorite movies or Netflix series on your devices before you come if you prefer this to curling up with a good book, chatting fireside, stargazing or taking in the spectacular views. We provide a Bluetooth speaker (and speaker charger) for our guests to use for watching movies on their phones or computers or for listening to music/podcasts during their stay.
For other entertainment, we provide a telescope, several games (backgammon, chess & checkers, Jenga, playing cards, & several couples games, like the "Date Night Game"). We also have word puzzle books (crossword, word search, etc.) in the tent. We have books highlighting The Smoky Mountains nature, hiking areas, etc. We provide 2 LED book lamps (clip style) that are rechargeable as well. Move & clip them anywhere you want/need them.
Lamps on each bedside table have USB ports to charge your devices & the Bluetooth speaker as well. An outlet plug-in cord also provided for speaker & other electronics for rapid charging.
Two yoga mats are supplied for those wanting to start their morning with a sunrise while finding their zin or stretching it out on the tent's deck.
Bluetooth Speaker (JBL) provided for streaming music or podcasts.
Microwave & soup bowls provided. Grill for hot dogs, hamburgers, etc., & silverware & paper plates provided.
Bear spray and air horn on each night stand for your safety.
Umbrella provided hangs behind couch.
Battery operated lantern provided.
Guest access
Guests have the entire tent & bath house to themselves. The surrounding outdoor / firepit & grill space is also completely private for guests. There is a cabin higher up on the mountain. The driveway to tent is shared with the cabin, so you may notice traffic, but it is infrequent & unobtrusive. The 2 spaces (tent site & cabin site) are completely separate, offering our guests a very quiet & private stay, even when both are occupied.
Other things to note
PLEASE HEED THESE WARNINGS TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY:
BEARS & OTHER WILD ANIMALS - You MUST be willing to take the trash out of your tent every single night before bed AND at check-out (even if you only have a couple of beer cans in it). Wild animals can smell food/drink/sugar from very far away. Trash MUST be put in the bear-proof trash can past the parking area every evening. If you do not, you may attract bears and other wild animals while you are sleeping & things are quiet, which will not only be very dangerous for you, but for future guests.
- You must clean the GRILL & EATING AREA after grilling for safety - to keep wild animals at bay. Never leave food on the grill or picnic table. Do not pour grease or drain food items/drinks onto ground. Put in a container provided or paper plate & take to bear-proof trash to discard.
- Always wash dirty dishes after meals. We realize it is extra work, but if you simply set them in the sink, wild animals will smell from far away & may come join you for a snack (coyotes, bears, bobcats, etc.). Just take the 15 minutes to minimize the risk.
WINTER STAYS & TRAVEL - In the winter, it is highly advised that you have a 4x4 to drive up the mountain road. The main road is quite steep and could get slick even with just a coating of snow. The first section of our driveway is a steep, asphalt hill that can be slick in winter. 2nd section is hard-packed gravel (approximately 500 ft) to tent site. There is a parking area at bottom of driveway, if needed.
Tent will be closed from early Dec through Feb due to extreme cold temps & snow/ice probability.
HOUSE SHOES / SLIPPERS are a MUST Oct-Apr. Even when the tent is warm, the floor is quite cold, especially in the evenings, on your feet. May-Sep the floor is warmer.
There is a wood stove and there are 2 electric heaters provided. The tent is heavy canvas & better insulated than your average tent, but keep in mind...it is still a tent. You will not freeze to death, but it could be quite chilly if temps dip to mid 20s or below. If we are experiencing exceptionally cold weather (20s or teens) we will message you several days ahead of your check-in date. If you decide to reserve a different place due to unusually cold weather, we will refund your stay with us. If you choose to brave the chill, please know we have warm bedding with quilt & duvet, several throw blankets, & even an electric blanket. Bring warm PJs & cozy slippers for wearing inside the tent & going back & forth to the bath house (5 steps away from the tent).
PLEASE NOTE - If you choose to make a fire in the wood stove May-Sep, you may heat yourself out. We stock wood only at outside fire pit during these months. Electric heaters are provided in Spring & Fall to take the chill out of the air, if needed for unusually chilly nights.
We keep a very close eye on the forecast, so should know, in advance, if inclement weather is expected during your stay. We will notify you as far in advance as possible, if this is the case, so you can make early decisions on changes to your plans. Our tent structure is very strong & actually held up great, even during Hurricane Helene! It can withstand winds even up to 50+ mph & the rain fly over too keeps things nice & dry even during torrential downpours.
