About this listing
Whether you want to live the Camden dream or simply relax in a secluded family bolthole, this newly refurbished central London duplex with Regents Canal views offers luxury at exceptional value. With double and twin rooms, it is perfect for families
This light and airy two story apartment is a hidden gem in the heart of Camden, central London, within easy walking distance of both Camden Lock and the newly redeveloped King’s Cross Quarter. Set on the top two floors of an architect-designed block close to central Camden, it looks South over a stretch of the Regents Canal.
The apartment was fully refurbished in 2014 and features a sleek open-plan kitchen, rain shower and tub, high definition TV, free fibre WiFi and linen and towels. Suitable for shorter or longer stays, it provides the perfect base to explore Camden, London and beyond.
The apartment is entered from the West end of Baynes Street, close to the junction with Royal College Street, via a glass atrium with stairs around a central elevator to the raised outdoor mews above.
THE GROUND FLOOR of the apartment opens off the entrance hallway, with solid oak floors throughout, and comprises an open plan living space, with a sitting area, dining area and kitchen, all leading out to a large outdoor terrace.
THE KITCHEN is fully fitted with a Neff oven, gas hob with extractor, microwave and fridge with icebox. There is a separate six bottle integrated wine fridge, a dishwasher and washer/dryer. Finally, the kitchen comes complete with a kettle, toaster and La Pavoni espresso machine with milk frother. Coffee and tea are provided for guests. Cutlery, crockery and glassware is provided for six people, as are full cooking utensils and pans.
THE OPEN PLAN SITTING AND DINING AREA includes a comfortable sofa, armchairs, coffee table and extendable dining table and four chairs. A media unit houses a digital flatscreen HD television, with freeview channels, a DVD player and a fibre WiFi hub, offering 30Megabit internet throughout the property. At the other end of the room, the mini-library contains a broad selection of modern novels, reference books, local guidebooks, restaurant listings and takeaway menus and a selection of popular board games, and a printer for guest use.
THE LARGE OUTDOOR TERRACE is perfect to read the papers on a Sunday morning over breakfast or to barbecue later in the day. Opening off the main sitting area and with views over the canal, it includes outdoor furniture, integrated lighting and a charcoal barbecue. Guests may smoke on the outdoor balconies, but not in the apartment itself.
The property is particularly suited to families or groups travelling together, given the two single beds in the canal bedroom. It is secure, and the main balcony is edged with close fitting railings. The hall to the upstairs has a closing glass door on to the main living area, meaning children can be asleep upstairs whilst others relax downstairs – like a home away from home.
Heading UPSTAIRS from the entrance hallway…
THE CORNER BEDROOM has large dual aspect windows, facing East to fill the room with sunlight in the morning, and South across the trees over the Grand Union canal towards central London. It benefits from two full size single beds with a sidetable and reading light and a large fitted wardrobe with full length mirrors.
THE BALCONY BEDROOM features a double bed, and has glass stable doors leading to a second small balcony overlooking the Regents Canal. The room also has a large fully fitted wardrobe with mirrors, and sidetables with reading lights.
THE BATHROOM is newly fitted and includes a bath to relax after a day looking for bargains in the markets, with a rain shower overhead.
Interaction with guests
Jackie is happy to discuss the neighbourhood with guests, suggest restaurants and bars, and give directions!
The block is located by a pedestrian access to the Regents Canal pathway, recently redeveloped to give access (South) directly to the heart of the new King’s Cross Quarter (10 mins walk), and (North) straight into Camden Lock and the heart of the main Camden market with all its world old stalls, bars and shops (5 mins) and on to pretty Primrose Hill (12 mins), the formal gardens of Regents Park (18 mins) and the amazing London Zoo (20 mins). King’s Cross Quarter includes the beautifully refurbished St. Pancras and King’s Cross termini, with their bars, restaurants, shopping precincts, outdoor venues, as well as the King’s Place venue, Granary Square and numerous other attractions. Camden needs no introduction, being the busiest single tourist destination in Europe.
It couldn’t be easier to get to the apartment. It is one minute from Camden Road Station (providing fast overground access around London, including to City Airport, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Westfield Stratford and, further afield, to Wembley and Twickenham Stadiums), and around five minutes’ walk from Camden Town underground, giving quick and cheap access to London’s many attractions and its numerous airports.
For those arriving from Europe, the property is less than 10 minutes’ walk or a two minute taxi ride from London’s stunning new St. Pancras and King’s Cross station termini, giving Eurostar access to Paris, Brussels and EuroDisney, and national rail services throughout England and Scotland.
For those who prefer to see the sights as they go, the property is within easy walking distance of Camden’s many public bus routes, and sits directly on route 274, which starts at the foot of Upper Street in fashionable Islington, heads past the picturesque pubs and cafes of Barnsbury, and goes on to London’s buzzing Oxford Street, via Baker Street (for Sherlock Holmes fans…) and near Abbey Road, where the Beatles filmed that LP cover.
Other things to note
Two large supermarkets are within walking distance. A Sainsbury’s megastore is less than five minutes walk away towards Camden Town, and a Waitress on Camden High Street.
We leave a detailed house rules manual with instructions and helpful information.
