I waited several days to write this review because I hate writing about negative experiences. First of all, this review is for her other property downtown. When I booked, she disclosed that she only had availability for her other house downtown, and I agreed to take it. Claire Marie was very pleasant on the phone, and when I arrived, check-in was very easy. The house was VERY hot (98+ degrees), and unfortunately, none of the windows in the bedroom that opened had window screens, and there were mosquitoes outside. There were a few other windows in the house that did have screens, and I opened them. What I ended up having to do was make a screen from my camping mosquito net and using my 16 inch box fan (a life saver in this case) to get some air moving into the house. The room finally cooled down to sleeping temperature about 11PM!! Although the AIRBNB listing says air conditioning, the "other" house where I stayed did not - I do not recommend this house in the summer. In the winter it would likely be fine. The house was very clean. That is all for the environment. I had another issue that made me a bit upset. Here's the story: When I booked, I told her that I need to work on my car in the driveway, and that an extension cord to provide power to the car was critical to the repair, and would determine if I could book her place. She checked, and said yes there would be an extension cord, and she would bring it by. I setup the car, cooled down the engine, got the part and tools ready and WAITED.... and WAITED... She never arrived with this critical item. I sent a text, and a few minutes later the replay came back "The cord has a tear, sorry about that!". Now I'm stuck, the sun is going down, the engine is cool enough to do the needed repair (Air conditioning in a black car in 90+ degree weather, ironically), and I have to go to the neighbors to beg for an extension cord. May point in telling this story is that if it were me, I would have made right on the promise of an important item by going to Wally World and buying a $3 cord and delivering to the house - just saying... All in all, not my best AIRBNB experience. Again, she was very nice, but I would not stay again.

Claire is a terrific host, and her place is the perfect balance between being so close to downtown Grand Junction, and yet feeling like a retreat. I loved just spending time in her backyard, with the lavender field, and the fruit trees. She was helpful with local recommendations as well.

Claire Marie was awesome! She was very welcoming and she helped me plan out a few hikes along the rest of my way home. The house was beautiful and very clean. I enjoyed my short stay very much. I would definitely refer others in Grand Junction to her.

Claire is a warm, welcoming and kind individual who made my stay absolutely terrific. She has a beautiful home and two wonderful cats and her garden is filled with such beautiful lavender plants and various fruit trees. It was so lovely to stay with Claire and the cats and to learn about lavender farming and all things Colorado, while admiring the amazing scenery. Claire is really knowledgable about the area and she made my stay so amazing that I honestly didn't want to leave. I'd go back in a heartbeat. The boring bits- the bed was comfortable, the place was clean, area was safe and it's definitely the only place you should consider staying while visiting (or passing through) Grand Junction. Thank you Claire!

As a former Ritz-Carlton associate, I love hospitality, hosting and travel! Currently, I am a writer and a lavender grower/distiller/alchemist. I seek out backcountry and urban travel adventures. I enjoy reading, spending time with friends, vegan cooking, connecting with animals, and balanced living. I take advantage of all that western Colorado/Colorado Plateau has to offer -- hiking, backpacking, skiing, canyoneering. Favorite travel destinations include Havana, Cuba; San Francisco; and the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
