Guests often search for this popular amenity
This one-of-a-kind grand and contemporary villa is ideal for a family with kids or a group of friends. It is luxuriously set within the rebuilt walls of a very rare ancient circular sugar mill dating back to the 18th century. Specially designed by Mustique based architect Thomas Dehen it offers spectacular views overlooking the estate’s grounds and ocean beneath. Together with its many amenities and location, it has been transformed into the type of property you would never want to leave!

The space
This unique property features two substantial and comfortable bedrooms, which combine many historic elements together with contemporary living. Featured is a large custom built mahogany kitchen, all with modern day appliances, that opens up to a large circular high arched open-concept living and dining area. Within is a large hardwood dining table, a grand couch area, and a sitting area that faces the ocean and estate gardens. It also features a grand pool with an infinity edge waterfall, shallow kids area, natural pebbled grotto and several relaxation areas partly covered by two gazeboes for those that require shade.

The bedrooms are each furnished with custom-made king-sized four-poster beds, small office tables, and spacious en-suite bathrooms featuring one-of-a-kind pebbled showers. One of the bedrooms has a sitting area and green marble sinks with the other containing a glass sink and an open-air shower large enough for several guests to enjoy together.

The entire property is surrounded by lush grounds that are covered by numerous species of palms and fruit trees, with a 28 acre estate that leads one from the property all the way down to a cliff above the ocean. This makes it ideal also for nature lovers who enjoy hikes and beautiful scenery.

The Sugar House is ideal for visitors seeking a relaxed laid-back atmosphere in plantation house surroundings, offering various indoor and outdoor gardens, a private terrace and amazing views.

Although it is located in such a superb location, which is also very safe and private, it is only a few minutes drive to the best beaches and activity on the island. There are two beautiful unspoiled beaches which are only a short hike away, or jump on our complimentary daily shuttle and be at one of the two best swimming beaches of the island in only a few minutes.

Location

Bequia, St Vincent & Grenadines

Mt. Pleasant is arguably the safest and most private area on the island. Although it is extremely private, a short drive will take you to the best beaches and places with activity on the island. One could also take a beautiful hike through the estate to two unspoiled beaches which are only short distance away. The area also has what is arguably the best view on the island stretching 180 degrees over the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea, down the Grenadines to Grenada, another island country which one can see on a clear day. Fresh breezes rise up from the Atlantic below which helps keep the property free of mosquitos and cool throughout the day. Places such as these don't exist much anymore, quite simply we do not lock doors and windows at night.

I grew up in the Grenadines, particularly on Mount Pleasant, Bequia; the very special and intimate island hilltop community, of which the Old Fort Estate used to be the centre many centuries ago, when the French colonialized this part of the Caribbean. Whilst still being very young I witnessed everything my parents and their local team of workers did, as they rebuilt the historic ruins then managing the property for close to 25 years. Due to the location and lack of good schools, I was educated using a correspondence course from America, from a very young age until I was a teenager. Later I travelled daily with the ferry over the ocean, to do my A-levels on neighbouring St. Vincent, the main island of this island country. After spending almost 2 decades in the Caribbean I moved to Europe for experience, something which turned out to be very useful giving my life in Caribbean hospitality. At only 18 years of age, I did my apprenticeship at the Kempinski Hotel Four Seasons in Munich and following on from this, was accepted to a job as a full time food and beverage waiter in the Hilton Amsterdam. Having worked two years at these renowned establishments, I moved to London where I completed my studies in Marketing and Hospitality at the London Metropolitan University. After quite some considerable time abroad, I moved back to St. Vincent and The Grenadines my residence of choice, and was promoted by my father to become the director of the Old Fort in 2005. Before I was born my parents travelled to numerous faraway places, something which helped them learn about the key aspects of hospitality and what one would look for when travelling to a special one of a kind place for vacation. Giving my history this travel bug consequently grew inside me, as I would spend Summers in Europe visiting my grandparents. This only fueled my growing addiction to travelling. The experience of growing up on a beautiful and unique island, which attracts people hailing from all different backgrounds, and travelling to various parts of the world over many years, has helped me in becoming what I believe a great host and for me to offer this special property to you at its very best. If you have any questions whatsoever, don’t hesitate to reach out, as we will do our very best in accommodating you.
