They were nice people. But we had a very bad problem with ants we woke up covered in ants and a lot of our stuff was filled with hundreds of ants. We had to throw many of our things away. Even clothing because there were so many that we could not get them all off. With the animal deposit I asked about it before it got accepted and there was no response and then she excepted my request to stay. And then later to find out it's an extra 150 bucks.

Response from Fern:
Unfortunately, Southern California had a problem with sugar ants this year. We did not have them in the bedrooms, but bringing takeout meals and eating them in bed, including pancakes with syrup, and leaving food trash, open soda cans, candy wrappers and a bag of open dog food attracted them. I typically request guests eat their food, especially full meals, in the kitchen, which guests can use freely. I currently rarely accept airbnb guests as I work too much, but felt sorry for you, as few hosts take dogs. However, your dog needs to be potty trained to travel. I appreciate you admitting the dog peed on the comforter and that you took the initiative to wash it, but there was pee on the floor and I noticed you had cleaned up dog poop. I had to carpet clean the room and spent a day cleaning in general, including the large pile of trash. Most guests take their trash to the outside can, especially soiled clothing. I do not use insecticides, especially in consideration of your pregnancy, as any knowledgeable and intelligent expectant mother would want to reduce any potential risks, which include the suspected correlation between active ingredients in many insecticides and neurological fetal development, I am sure you can appreciate my hesitation in application of them. Again, my apologies for ants, but that is one of the reasons airbnb hosts prefer to not have guest leaving food all over their rooms-it isnt Motel 6. As to a deposit of 150.00, it is fair as i have paid between 150 and 200. Your dog did pee on the floor and you left 20.00. Again I apologize for ants and the inconvenience. For me, the time I spent cleaning and throwing out all the trash (aside from the soiled clothing, who throws out a towel because it has ants on it?) was not worth the small earnings from the stay. Normally my guests have a good experience, which is what I strive for, but the amount of food in the room was certainly a largely contributing factor. In future airbnbs dont eat in bed with full meals and make sure your dog is potty trained.

An enjoyable place to stay in the Vista area. Convenient to surrounding areas. Very nice bathroom and very pleasant hosts.

This space is unbelievably beautiful. I couldn't believe Fern doesn't charge twice what she does charge. Our stay was compromised by the presence of my wonderful wife, who has advanced Alzheimer's; that means I wasn't able to enjoy the place nearly as much as I could have. My primary disappointment was lack of interaction with our host, since that's one of the aspects of Airbnb that is most valuable to me. But I in no way fault her, since she was extremely busy. Basically, everything was wonderful. Prospective guests should understand that the host does not provide breakfast, and that they apparently are not invited to use the kitchen to prepare meals. But those are minor inconveniences compared with the beauty and quietness of the house. I recommend this Airbnb space without reserve.

Perfect trip. The room was very clean and Fern was nothing short of a gracious host. The location was easy to find and the room felt very private. Fern is a pro :)

Hello. I am a nature lover who grew up back East working in a private inn as a student. So I thought this would be fun.
