The space
RIVER HOUSE
Welcome to River House in the hamlet of Friary, near Bath.
This historic estate is 5 miles south of Bath, in the South Cotswolds. It was once the site of a Carthusian Monastery (hence the name 'Friary') and is scheduled by Historic England as an Ancient Monument.
This private and peaceful riverside location is only accessible by a no-through road, yet it is just outside the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath and the thriving market towns of Frome and Bradford on Avon. Longleat Safari Park, the Cathedral City of Wells, Cheddar Gorge and many National Trust properties are within easy range for day visits.

ACCOMMODATION:
River House Bath - sleeps 10, in hotel-style beds which can be arranged as super-king doubles or twin beds.
The Coach House - sleeps 2-4 with one double bed, which can also be arranged as a twin, as well as a double sofa bed and a portable single bed.
The Coach House is automatically included with River House for 10+ guests.

River House Bath and The Coach House comprise over 5,000 square feet of accommodation with 2 spacious kitchens and large living rooms, including a conservatory dining room and a double-length living room, with log-burning fires at each end. A perfect arrangement for mixed-age family groups.
All the bedrooms can be arranged as super-king doubles or twins rooms, according to preference, and most are en suite to bathrooms.

FEATURES
We offer our guests a serviced Hot Tub, an extensive BBQ Terrace and riverside Lawn and Sun Deck with sun-loungers, a variety of Garden Games and a large Fire Pit.
Sky Sports and Wifi/Internet are available throughout with super-fast broadband speed as we have our own optic fibre connection to the property.
Private fishing is available in season, with tuition by arrangement.

There is a scenic railway station in the local village, Freshford, which offers an hourly service to Bath Spa station in 10 minutes.
A traditional village Pub, well-stocked Community-run Shop/Cafe, and a genuine Sicilian stone-fired pizza oven are all within walking distance.
Local supermarkets deliver and local minibus/taxis are available. There are also several very well-stocked local Farm Shops nearby.

BEDS
River House and The Coach House together have 13 'hotel-style' single beds, which can be arranged as 5 super-king beds, one twin room and one single bed.
In addition, we have 3 excellent quality Jay-Z portable beds (1 double and 2 singles) with proper mattresses and 2 comfortable double sofa beds - both within bedrooms.
We have 400 thread count bed linen and 100% cotton towel bundles (3).
Both properties also have cots for babies and baby linen.

CARETAKER, CHEF AND HOUSEKEEPER
The Caretaker and Housekeeper are available to help guests at any time. Our Caretaker is also a qualified Chef who will be delighted to cater for your dining (10 minimum). Please ask for our 'Friary Tuck' menu if you would like to eat 'at home' in River House.

"We loved out stay at River House for our team offsite the past two years in December. The venue is conveniently located in an idyllic rural location not far from Bath Spa station, and easily reachable from Bristol and Heathrow airports. The rooms are very comfortable and there are plenty of communal areas to hold workshops into. The grounds are stunning and the rare breed animals very cute and entertaining. However, the best thing about the house is the warm welcome of the caretakers Richard and Penny, who also prepare the most delicious meals and have them served right when needed. We can’t recommend River House enough for your corporate retreat!"

LOCATION
River House at Friary is just 5 miles from the Centre of Bath. You can drive to the City centre in under 15 minutes or take the scenic railway into Bath from Freshford station (walking distance) in 10 minutes (regular service).

The hamlet of Friary is the southern most point of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it listed as historic Scheduled Ancient Monument, due to its historic monastic past.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle, Iford Manor and The Kennet & Avon Canal (with a cycle route into Bath and barge hire at Dundas Aqueduct) are within walking distance.
One local pub, The George at Norton, has been serving beer since 1397 and the Freshford village pub, The Inn at Freshford, which is a 20min walk, has a good menu, private rooms for hire and its own brand of beer. The well-know wedding venue, Wick Farm, is very close by.

Friary is also near famous historic houses such as: Longleat; Babbington House; Lacock Abbey and under an hour's drive from Wells (England's smallest city), Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury.
The historic medieval weaving town of Frome, with its independent markets, and Bradford on Avon, are also nearby and accessible by train or road.
There are picturesque villages, scenic walks and 3 excellent farm shops locally.

My husband is a qualified chef and we love to host groups, often asking accomplished local chefs to help us with larger events.

During your stay

The Caretaker, Richard, and our Housekeeper, Penny, live in Friary Cottage on the estate and are available 24/7.
Richard is also a fully-qualified Chef. He is on hand to replenish your log fires or fire pit/BBQ daily, tend the hot tub and set up garden games when needed.
Penny, our Housekeeper, is available to help with any household items, cleaning and waitressing, if required.
Please contact us at Friary Cottage, near River House, if you need anything during your stay.
For catering, please give us at least 2 weeks notice and payment should be made at least a week in advance.
