The Cottage in Asheville is a comfortable cottage with hammock and swing strung from old-growth oak trees. Located only 1.25 miles from downtown Asheville and only three blocks from UNCA, the cottage is the perfect place from which to explore all that Western North Carolina has to offer.
The lofted ceiling and skylight gives this small space an airy, open quality. A memory foam mattress on the queen-size bed will coax you to a peaceful night's rest.
The bathroom has a glass enclosed, subway tile corner shower and tile floor. A suntube brings in exterior light even if the blinds are closed.
The modern kitchen is complete with granite counter top, induction range, microwave/convection oven, two stage water filter, dishwasher and under-counter refrigerator. A complete six place table setting means three meals for two before the dishwasher is strarted.
A loveseat and chair grace the reading/living area. As the cottage is meant to be a quiet retreat, there is no TV, but there is a high-speed Internet connection for you to use for entertainment or for keeping in touch with the home office. And, a Bluetooth speaker allows you to play music from your Bluetooth enabled device.
The cottage is located one block off Merrimon Avenue and public transit. Walking paths on the Glenns Creek Greenway are one block away. And, the cottage is a short walk from the UNCA Botanical Gardens.
Like great food? You'll find Thai food, Italian food, burritos, sushi, barbecue, home-style, locally grown meals, ice cream, pastries and sandwiches all within 1/2 mile of the cottage.
You can stock up on groceries at the Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter, The Fresh Market or Ingles Grocery, all within 1-1/4 miles. And, Saturday mornings during the growing season, the North Asheville Tailgate Market at UNCA offers fresh produce, meats and dairy products as well as breakfast crepes and fresh coffee prepared on the premises. Local musicians entertain as people gather and peruse the local offerings.
In spite of the convenience, the cottage feels like it is nestled in its own park. Contemporary, elegant, convenient... The Cottage In Asheville.
The green spaces adjacent to the cottage are available to our guests.
Interaction with guests
We try to provide a short orientation to our guests upon arrival. We live next door to the cottage and work from home. However, we give our guests as much privacy as they desire. There is an orientation document in a three-ring binder that covers most everything you need to know about the cottage.

I am a singer/songwriter, voice talent, and amateur gardener. I love the arts, eating yummy food with friends and family, and the outdoors (especially horseback riding at Hickory Nut Gap Farm or jumping into one of our beautiful mountain swimming holes!). I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had to travel abroad and learn about other cultures. I feel extremely fortunate to have been born and raised in such a wonderful community as Asheville. I love my hometown and all things about the Blue Ridge Mountains.
My husband, Joe Ebel, is a Wisconsin native and has lived here in Asheville for 17 years. He is an an amazing musician, website developer, chef, handyman and just a great guy and fantastic husband! We manage several properties, all next door to us. We love the green space that surrounds us, the peacefulness of our setting, and the proximity to the downtown Asheville scene.
Joe and I met through music. We both write and perform. Between the two of us, we have five CDs of original, acoustic music. If you've seen the Ken Burns National Parks Series TV show on PBS, you've probably heard Joe's violin playing!
He also pays mandolin and acoustic and electric guitar.
Joe and I created a mission statement years ago, and it still holds:
'Create and sustain harmony and balance in ourselves and the world, through loving relationships, artful music, comfortable, peaceful environments and integrity of mind and body.'
