The space

This is a typical old Shanghai French Concession lane house apartment on the 1st floor. The apartment includes a recently remodeled bathroom, kitchen space, living room, and lofted bedroom. The space is small but cozy and the amenities are complete for short- and long-term stays. I am an experienced AirBNB host and I will do my utmost to ensure you are comfortable during your stay.

Bathroom- Western toilet, hot water, sink, shower. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, laundered and disinfected towels, hair dryer are provided

Kitchen- Refrigerator, microwave, hot water kettle, hot plate for cooking, range hood/ventilator, wok, glasses, plates, bowls, cutlery all provided. There is no sink in the kitchen area - the bathroom sink must serve dual purpose.

Living room - Couch, 42" large flat screen TV, Xiaomi TV Box, free high-speed WiFi, HDMI cable to connect laptops to the TV.

Bedroom- Bedroom is lofted and therefore requires climbing up some somewhere narrow and steep stairs - not recommended for the elderly and not accessible for the mobility impaired. Sheets and towels for the Queen-sized bed are washed and disinfected by a professional cleaning company for each new guests.

Guest access

No restrictions on the space. Please note that door access is through a common-use lane.

Interaction with guests

I live and work nearby and am available for any questions you might have about your stay or helping out with any issues.

Other things to note

-The entrance to the apartment is down a dark alley with little to no external lighting. I will try to leave the light on outside the door for guests' arrival - guests must remember to leave this light on for themselves after their check-in or else be prepared to use a cell phone light to navigate the alley. Also, the alley is a little dirty and I apologize for this - I keep the inside of the house clean, but I unfortunately can't control the cleanliness of the external areas.

-Also, since this is an old Shanghai lane house, please be advised that you will be surrounded by neighbors who have the Chinese habit of sleeping early and rising early. Please expect a certain amount of external noise in the early morning as the locals get up and start their days. I provide ear plugs in the house if you'd like to use them while you sleep.

-Do not pull the inside handle upwards after you enter the house - this will engage all the door's deadbolts and you'll be locked inside. If this happens to you, you'll have to call me so I can come open up the door from the outside. Please, please, please pay attention to this tip. There's a sign on the door reminding you as well.

Absolutely great apartment in a fantastic area of the city. A little tricky to find but David provided excellent directions so just trust them and you'll get there! Apartment equipped with everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. It was also really quiet- best nights sleep we've had for a long while in China! I'd highly recommend staying here. David extremely helpful and super quick to answer any queries or questions about the apartment and surrounding area.

The location is unbeatable, everything was within walking distance or a quick subway ride away. Similar to other reviews, it was somewhat challenging to find since it's tucked inside a side street. David was quick to respond when we pointed out the fact the apartment doesn't seem to have been cleaned since the previous guest. He came over himself and cleaned it while we were out at dinner. It's a very cozy place in an older building, so be wary of mosquitoes that lurk by the entrance. Overall we had a comfortable stay, would stay here again.

Response from David:
Thanks very much for the stay and the kind words. This house is indeed located ideally for exploring Shanghai and I try my best to provide an experience that I would be able to enjoy myself. I apologize again for the miscommunication with the cleaning agency leading to the uncleaned house when you checked in - thanks for your understanding and patience as I got it taken care of :)

Nice and cozy room. Small, but has everything for a comfortable stay! Wise use of space - the bed is above the shower and the kitchen - really liked it. Location is perfect - quite place, but close to center (30 mins on foot to Nanjin road), 10 mins from subway. A lot of shops, boutiques and cafeterias in the proximity. Especially liked the french bakery for a breakfast, which is three minutes walk from the house.

Hey all! I'm from the US and I currently live and work in Shanghai China. My job at a consulting firm keeps me pretty busy and you probably won't see me much during your stay, but I'll be very available for communication. Although I'm busy, I still try to stay involved with hobbi…
