My stay at this homestay was unforgettable and offered me an precious opportunity to experience the life of local Malays. This house is located in a nice suburban neighborhood and is inhabited by Nuraini's parents and big brother. Though they speak limited English, their warmth and hospitality was unmistakable. They took me on a ride for a tour of the local sights, and prepared all 3 meals of a day for me. They even took me on two home visits of Nuraini's two sisters, who live close by and from whom I learned a lot of about Malay wedding traditions. Daddy Taib also drove me to downtown Malacca when I left. Finally, one quick note about the guest room - it's huge, but the conditions are modest, so don't expect the luxury of a nice B&B. Also make sure you bring potent mosquito repellent with DEET, the herbal spray I got from a local convenience store did not work for me. As the room is designed for natural ventilation, it's got small air passages in the wall, which means you can't really keep mosquitoes out.

Special Kampung/Village life experience It was our first time staying in a traditional Malay village. The place is about 8km, 15mins by car from downtown Melaka. The house is quite inside the village from the mainroad/village mosque. We stayed with the Nuraini's family. They are knowledgeable about traditional Malay music. We had the chance to visit see the host's daughter and grandchildren. We had a big home-made breakfast with roti bread and spicy sambal sauce, and local coffee/Milo. We walked around the village with the family and did some fishing together. Staying in homestay is different from staying at a modern hotel. The house is quite spacious and there are 3 bedrooms for 6 people in our group. It has several bathrooms/toilets. The house decorations are quite cultural with Malay design. I wish I could speak more Malay to interact with the family so overall it is a great stay, as the host said, next time I should come for 3 days 2 nights to explore Melaka. Terima kasih
