Hyena Hangout a refuge from the rush of city life. An African bushveld home from home where you can be one with nature and restore your zest for life. Blissfully quiet & peaceful, your only visitors the animals that call Marloth Park their home.

The space

At Hyena Hangout we are constantly delighted by visits from zebra, giraffe, bushbuck and kudu. Not forgetting the tortoise, monitor lizard or the energetic bush babies. You can cool off with a cocktail in the splash pool, or unwind with a book on the secure deck. There is nothing to beat the tranquillity of the African bush, a place to refresh your soul and restore your love of life.

Marloth Park is a wildlife conservancy, protecting all the non-threatening wild game, which roam freely amongst the dwellings. The impala, blouwildebees, nyala and warthog wander freely while the Big 5 are restricted to Kruger which is on the other side of the Crocodile River. We are within a short walk of the Crocodile river, where you can spend the early evening with sundowners enjoying the prospect of seeing the elephants bathing in the river or a lion kill. Buffalo, rhino, waterbuck, crocodile and hippo are also a common sight, together will a myriad of water birds and the amazing fish eagle. Perfectly situated 20 km from Kruger National park and a short drive to the Swaziland and Mozambique borders.

Hyena Hangout has a main bedroom with a double bed, air conditioning, en-suite bathroom with a tub and a shower. There is also access to this bathroom from the passage. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed and and is also en-suite with a shower. The bathroom and kitchen have a hot water gas geyser which is ignited when you turn on the hot water tap. Upstairs there is a double bed and 2 single beds in the large open loft area. The beds have linen and pillows with blankets and duvets supplied in winter. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. Downstairs is a comfortable lounge, leading out onto the patio, braai area and a large splash pool for those hot summer afternoons. Evenings are spent around the campfire, watching the sparks fly into the dusk, with a million stars to decorate the night sky.

Guest access

There are two cottages each with its own barbecue area on the outdoor patio and a shared splash pool and viewing deck. The ramp is for ease of packing on arrival and departure.

Spacious and comfortable, set in the thick of wildlife. Even spotted game on our way to check-in. Pretty cool :)

My family and I had a comfortable 2 nights stay at Hyena Hangout. The bush experience is lovely and we were visited by mongoose, bushbuck, warthog, giraffe and bush babies. The bird life is excellent. Janice was not present but was available over the phone and everything was arranged and easily accessible. The unit is large and clean. Tenants must not expect anything fancy (no tv or wi-fi) but the splash pool is lovely and we were very comfortable. Thank you Janice.

The house was in a great location for entry to the Kruger (crocodile bridge). That was really the only thing we were happy with! We knew we had rented fairly basic accommodations but were more than disappointment red when we arrived. Although we were informed the rental was cleaned by 4 people for over an hour that morning it was filled with cobwebs and there were ants completely covering the counters in the kitchen . There was a thick coating of frozen ice filled with ants in the freezer and my husband killed 4 cockroaches that night. It looked as though it hadn't been rented in ages and a quick minimal cleaning was done just before we arrived. Lovely when you have a baby crawling around with you! We spoke to Dave who insisted there was nothing wrong with the cleanliness and it was to be expected in the bush. He also said there was nothing he was able to do to make it better! Also told us this type of mess can accumulate in apparently 2 hours after cleaning. Dave had possible the worst customer service I've ever expletives actually! Apart from that our other issue was that we were overcharged . Janice quoted us a price and then when we saw what we had been charged it was more! Nothing was done about either issue Although Janice was a nice lady to speak with via email /phone I would not reccommend this rental to anyone. Save your money- book elsewhere !

Response from Janice:
As this was our very first booking on AirB&B, I was totally unfamiliar with the booking and payment procedure. I quoted Sarah a price which was lower that what AirB&B had quoted and deducted from her account, so out of my control. I offered to refund her, but have still not received her mothers South African banking details which she promised to send.
