We have a wonderful view of greenery, church towers and domes in this spacious, light and extremely well-situated 2-bedroom flat near the Copenhagen lakes. Cafes and restaurants abound, and you can walk into the city center in 15-20 minutes.

The space

This sunny apartment is 136 sq.m. (1335 sq.ft). The living space consists of a living room, dining room, main bedroom (with a king size bed), guest room with a comfortable double bed, bathroom/shower, eat-in kitchen. There is available closet space in both bedrooms.

It is a corner 4th floor apartment with a beautiful, open view of treetops and the city (you can actually see late night fireworks from Tivoli from the living room windows), a short block from Sortedam Lake and its cafés, just steps from Lille Triangel (Little Triangle) and some of Copenhagen’s best cafés and restaurants, a few blocks from Nordre Frihavnsgade, one of the best shopping streets in the city. Østerbrogade (especially past Triangel) is also a great fashion street. The apartment is nested between great parks: Fælled park, where atomic physicist Niels Bohr went on his famous walk with his former German student, Heisenberg in 1941, possibly discussing issues concerning the creation of the atom bomb), unique playgrounds (in Fælled Park), the Citadel (Kastellet) on the other side of Østerport Station, where you can walk on the ramparts overlooking Copenhagen's Langelinie and the Little Mermaid; Østre Anlæg in which you'll find The National Gallery of Art and The Hirschsprung Collection. The newly renovated Botanical Gardens are also just down the block.

It's an easy walk through the parks to the center of Copenhagen.

A great starting point for joggers!

The building is from the 1890’s which means NO elevator, but the wide, elegant stairway is an 'easy' walk-up. This apartment is not good for anyone with a physical disability.

Facilities: Flat-screen TV, WIFI, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, combined washer/dryer in bathroom, linens and towels, 2 bicycles (his and hers) in the yard, and a baby folding bed (must be requested ahead of time).

There is a courtyard with benches and tables for your use if you wish.

By the way, there is a ringbinder in the apartment with lots of tourist information, city maps and a print out of the list of good local restaurants mentioned below.

Guest access

Apart from one room which we use for storage space, guests are welcome to use the whole apartment. There is also a courtyard with benches and chairs available for use.

HOUSE RULES: no parties, no smoking anywhere inside (including stairways), no piano playing after 9 pm.

Interaction with guests

Either Leif or I or both will be there to greet you when you arrive and show you around. We can be reached by cell phone or email, but otherwise, you will be on your own.

Other things to note

Biking is definitely the best way to get around Copenhagen. There are bicycle helmets in the hallway. It is not obligatory, but recommendable, especially cycling in unknown territory. Make sure you use hand signals for turning and stopping. Also, it is illegal to talk or text on a handheld phone while biking.

This is a fantastic apartment with a great location! It's walking distance to the largest park in Copenhagen with brilliant play areas for the children and just a short walk into the city centre. Fran and Leif were great hosts and allowed us to use their bikes to get around the city. Our flight was delayed but they were waiting for us at the apartment with a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge! We couldn't recommend the apartment enough for a great base to explore a wonderful city!

We loved our week at Fran's beautiful, tranquil apartment. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay! It was so light and airy and comfortable. The area had shops and eating places and was so handy for walking along the lakes. We walked into the town centre in around half an hour depending on the route we picked and the station was also near by. Fran and Leif were very charming and helpful...lovely people! We will certainly recommend the apartment to our friends. Thanks very much Fran!

We absolutely loved our stay at Fran's and Leif's apartment! Communication with the hosts was very prompt and easy from the start. Fran, was very welcoming and was really keen for us to feel at home during our stay. The flat was spacious and very comfortable, as described. The location was perfect, 10 minutes walk from Oesterport Station and within walking distance from the centre. We also enjoyed using the bikes, and experiencing Copenhagen that way. Would strongly recommend.

The hosts were very prompt to respond and friendly and extremely helpful on arrival. The apartment was certainly as good as we expected if not better. The location was handy for the city centre and also access to other destinations further afield by way of Oesterport Station, only 10 minutes away on foot. Good eating places and shops nearby also.

Fran and Lief were great hosts. Al though we arrived late they met us at the apartment, showed us round and gave us some useful tips regarding the nearest bread shop for breakfast, then they left us in peace. The flat lived up to our expectations. It is very stylish, spacious and comfortable. The only challenge are four flights of stairs but we managed and some of us are a bit decrepit. It's an excellent location for exploring the wonderful city of Copenhagen and the surrounding area eg the fantastically situated Louisiana Museum of art.We stayed a whole week and still there was more to see. If you love books you will love this apartment; it's a wonderful collection, like being in a top second hand bookshop.

This is the perfect place to stay if you're planning a visit to Copenhagen. Fran's apartment is beautiful, spacious and is really easy to get to if you're travelling from the airport. Osterport station (10 mins walk from the flat) takes you directly to popular towns such as Helsingor and Roskilde, both of which are worth a visit. It's a really nice neighbourhood - lovely parks, cafes and restaurants nearby (Host gets my recommendation) and within easy walking distance of the centre. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Fran!

I was born in New York City, but came to Denmark in the early 1970's during a break in my graduate studies in anthropology. I never went back, though I often go back to visit. After a career change I became an English teacher at a Danish secondary school from which I retired last…
