Enjoy this private and unique adobe house on 14 acres with its secluded but perfectly situated location 17 miles from Taos Ski Valley and 2.5 miles north of Taos Plaza. You'll have the whole house and all the land to yourself--perfect for a quiet retreat or a romantic getaway. In case your group requires more space, there is an additional 2 person room available through Airbnb (only available to guests that book the Relaxing Taos Adobe Abode.) Please inquire!

The space
The room is just a small part of a 3000 square foot classic old adobe with 30" thick walls. The house was originally built in the early 1900's and features locally milled pine wood floors and counter tops, soft mud plaster with latilla and split cedar ceilings. It sits on 14 acres with incredible unobstructed views of Taos Mountain. It has mature cottonwoods, dozens of (somewhat feral) fruit trees and an acequia (irrigation stream) along its eastern border. The large guest room suite (roughly 350 square feet) features wonderful radiant heat from a Kuma oil stove (winter), a couch, a club chair, 40" HDTV, HULU with Live TV (includes multiple HBO stations, local channels, ESPN channels, NBC Sports, and many other traditional cable channels.) Disney+, Netflix, HBO NOW, Amazon Prime, ESPN+, PBS and many other APPs are also available on a 100Mbs wireless network. The room is also equipped with A/C for the summer months (though the nights in Taos are very cool and the A/C is rarely needed.) The queen sized bed has a feather comforter with duvet, feather pillows, (neck and memory foam pillows are also available as are down alternative comforters and pillows) premium cotton sheets, wool blankets and a mattress pad heater (warm up the sheets before you go to bed!) for extra coziness. There is a small desk with pens, pencils and notepads and a flashlight in case of emergencies. There is an iron inside the wardrobe and an ironing board next to the wardrobe. Lastly, there is an additional 2 person bedroom (king sized bed) that can be booked through AirBnB if you are looking for more space. (The additional room is only available to guests that book this listing--you'll never be sharing the house with strangers.) Enjoy!

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire property, including a hill behind the house that offers breathtaking 360 degree views of the Taos valley and the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Be sure to walk to the top of the sage covered hill with a cup of tea and take in one of Taos' spectacular sunsets. Wireless internet is available in the main house and guest room.
Guests will not have access to a second bedroom (the room up the small staircase at the end of the living room) unless they'd like to rent it for friends/family, or my shop (through the door by the bathroom.) Even though I maintain these other areas, guests will not be sharing the house with anyone else during their stay unless they chose to rent the additional bedroom.

Other things to note
This is an old house! It has some quirks. In the winter, although the guestroom and bathroom will be quite warm and cozy, the main house does not have a central heating system and may be in the low 60 degree range. If guests are comfortable starting and maintaining a proper fire, there is a very nice wood stove in the main living room that will help alleviate the cooler temperatures. In the summer, the house maintains a perfect temperature in the low 70's.

Lastly, please note that during winter months, the driveway may be snowy, icy, muddy or a combination of all three. AWD or 4WD is recommended. Although front wheel drive will generally get you up and down the driveway without problems, there may be brief periods where it is a little challenging. RWD is discouraged, especially on pick-up trucks. Check with me before your visit for up to date driveway conditions. Additionally, if you have a large, long vehicle, it may be difficult to turn around in the driveway. In this case-- especially if you are not comfortable backing your vehicle up for about 50 yards--we should discuss alternate parking plans.

I was born and, for the most part, raised in Taos, NM. I had some stints as a child in Denver, Colorado Springs, Tulsa and Dallas. I spent a great deal of my childhood both wandering the sea of sagebrush out my backdoor and clambering about in the shadows of tall aspens high in the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan mountains. My dad insisted I start skiing at the age of 3 and I will be forever grateful to him for introducing me to that wild nexus of gravity and snow. Still possessed with the sport, and when not logging one of my many annual days at Taos Ski Valley, I travel the western US and Canada seeking out the deepest snow. For me, and along with the secondary high of adrenaline, flying down mountains creates a stillness of mind, a clarity of the moment that shuts out all but the joyful present. When not on the ski hill, or working my day job, I design and build my own skis with a close longtime friend. I attended the University of Colorado, Boulder and after graduating, I returned to Taos as it served as a great home base for skiing and traveling. After many adventures abroad, including exploring the Baja and British Columbia coastlines on a little sail boat, I eventually fell into my current line of work as a film technician preparing sets for feature films and television series here in New Mexico. For 15 years now I have also run a soccer league/club in Taos and still play when time allows. I have also coached with the local high school soccer program and am a USSF certified referee. I have been fortunate to travel far and wide and have been welcomed and rescued more than once by strangers who opened their homes and hearts to me. I hope to give back in the same way and look forward to meeting you.
