We stayed in Jess’s house for three weeks over Christmas and had a great time. Jess and her family had obviously just moved out for us, but as long as you don’t mind living among somebody else’s things, you can be very comfortable. We never met Jess but if there was anything we needed she was always responsive and helpful. It is a lovely old house with wooden floors and a lot of character, but all modern conveniences as well. Be warned that it is 67 steps up from the road, so literally not for the faint hearted, kneed or hipped. We are both 69 but had no trouble with the climb. The views from the garden are beautiful. There is a gas barbecue, table and chairs so in fine weather you can eat out and enjoy the view, with the birds singing all around. The house is set high up on the hillside overlooking the valley of Island Bay, only a few minutes’ walk from the shops, which include a well-stocked New World supermarket, a superb butcher shop and the best fish and chip shop in Wellington. There’s also the lovely Empire Cinema, and it’s an easy walk to the beach. Although Island Bay feels more like a village it is only about 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Wellington, and the same from the airport. You don’t have to drive though, the buses are very good.

Although we never got to meet in person, Jess was incredibly supportive, thorough and fantastic at getting our needs me. Her house is a joy on every level. Filled with beauty, it sits nestled into the side of a mountain. It felt like being on retreat. Aside from how stunning and filled with art, creativity and personal style this home is, its also warm (a HUGE plus in New Zealand, and not what you would expect in most homes) and very very comfortable. I highly recommend a day at this wonderful location.

Our stay at Jess' house was great! We loved the location, Island Bay is a beautiful area. It is close to the city and very easy to get into the city either by bus or car (we found it cheaper to drive in and park on the weekend than catch the bus, some areas have free parking on Sunday). Jess' house is amazing, we loved the decor, its very comfortable and the views are fantastic. She also left us some yummy local produce for breakfast. Jess communicated with me in the lead up to our stay and during as well. We would definitely stay there again!

The booking was easy, communication was responsive. The house is comfortable, the view is great. There are good cooking, and laundry facilities. Pleasant neighborhood with a grocery, liquor store, butcher, numerous restaurants walking distance away. Pleasant walks to the beach or to a hilltop park with a terrific view. Short drives to downtown Wellington and the airport.
