The space
The Bunkhouse (Accommodation Space)
The Bunkhouse is a cute space with 4 bunk beds downstairs and a double and single upstairs. We supply bedding, but guests will need to make up their beds and strip them when they leave. There are no shops on the island, so you will need to bring all your food and drinks with you. There is a fridge and small freezer for you to use, along with a cooker, oven, microwave, kettle and lots of pots, pans and utensils. There is an adjoining toilet and shower next door and we provide towels.

The Byre (Hangout/eating space)
Just outside the bunkhouse is our amazing Byre. This was traditionally used to keep animals in but these days it is strictly for humans! It's the epitome of cosy - woodburning stove, sofas, books, large dining table and a wonderful view of Gylen Castle. You can hang out here on rainy days and bring your evening meals to eat together at the large table and the comfy chairs by the fire are perfect to enjoy a wee dram or two!

The shower and toilet are joined onto the bunkhouse but you need to walk outside to access them.

Guest access
You will have the Bunkhouse, Byre and toilet/shower to yourself. There is a secondary toilet just outside the bunkhouse that is shared with the Cafe.
The adjoining building to the bunkhouse is where our indoor seating is for the cafe and this space can also be used by our guests. The cafe is open from 11am- 4pm seven days a week April- September, so the outside space behind the bunkhouse is used for customer seating.

Other things to note
There is no mobile phone signal here (Except for EE), as we are in a valley. If you climb the hill, then you can pick it up. There is no wifi in the Bunkhouse, but there is in the Byre.
Bring a torch! All the amenities are in separate buildings so it's a handy thing to save you stumbling around in the dark.
You need to take the ferry from Gallanach Road, about 1 mile outside of Oban. Check out the Calmac website for the timetable and location details. In summer they run very regular, less so in winter. There are no ferries between 12:30pm and 2pm and the last scheduled ferry is 6pm. You can arrange a 7pm boat by contacting Calmac.

Neighbourhood highlights

We are so close to the mainland and yet we are worlds apart! Kerrera is a beautiful unspoilt island, full of amazing wildlife and exceptional geological formations. For this reason, we attract a lot of geology students to the Bunkhouse. It's possible to see sea eagles, golden eagles, buzzards, ravens, wild goats, sea otters, seals and porpoises. There are approx 70 residents on the island. There is a marina bar and restaurant at the north end (approx 6 km away, ideal for a bike ride!) and of course, our very own Tea Garden serving lunch. Kerrera Bunkhouse is a perfect place to relax, unwind and reconnect with nature and a slower pace of life.

From Ireland and Glasgow, we now live on a tiny island called Kerrera, close to Oban on the west coast of Scotland. We run a small cafe and bunkhouse at the south end of the island. We work hard through the busy tourist season and enjoy some travelling during the winter.
