About this listing

Perfect for a relaxing break, or as a base to explore Kent.

The space

The house is a traditional Kentish farmhouse, set in the midst of fields and woods, half a mile up a farm track. It's a beautiful and secluded spot which we love to share with friends and guests.

Guest access

You're very welcome to join us in the main house, to snuggle up in the sitting room, join us around the kitchen table for a shared meal or drinks, or to access laundry facilities.

The main house sitting room is very comfortable, three sofas, mini-grand piano, an open fire and Sky TV.

Interaction with guests

The main house is a shared house, and you are welcome to be as sociable with us as you wish.

Other things to note

The farm track can be rough, depending on the weather. We are usually accessible, but if you come in mid winter and the snow is deep you may need to park in a neighbouring farm yard and we will bring you here in the four wheel drive!

Fantastic weekend stay at a beautiful country house. Host Gwen went over & above by collecting us from the train station and made us feel very welcome. Can't recommend the listing enough.

Gwen's place is really idyllic: in the middle of the countryside, surrounded my trees and fields. The perfect place to relax. Her place has a lovely feel to it, clean, unique and very welcoming. Gwen is warm and lovely. Her breakfast was the best I had in a very long time. Still thinking about it. We had a perfect stay and would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay with Gwen. It was a tremendously "English" experience for us and our family of five. Gwen is a wonderful hostess, as she prepared two incredible farm-fresh breakfasts for our entire brood, and was also quick to offer us tea and cocoa in the afternoon. Homemade muffins and jams, fresh eggs, gourmet meats all served in a fabulous farm kitchen. This is a shared home, so you will be joined throughout the home with Gwen's boarders. We had a lovely evening socializing and sipping wine with the others in the home. The setting is beautiful, rustic and idyllic, a delightful farm home in the countryside. We really felt welcomed into someone's home and it was really great as a family adventure. Highly recommended for people, who are looking for an authentic visit with an English host in a very non-touristy manner. We had a private bedroom with a large bed and an en-suite bath. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Linens and towels were very nice quality. The shower had very poor water pressure, so much so that I preferred to use the shared bathroom for my shower on the second day. Gwen was nice enough to provide us with some electric adapters when the ones we brought didn't fit. It would be nice, however, if there were some drawer or wardrobe space available, as every thing was full of clothes and we had to live from our suitcases. The kids shared a triple room downstairs. They beds were very comfortable, and my kids thought it was fine. No blackout shades in that room means you'll be woken by the sun. The room was a bit cluttered as it seems a spare room, and the toilet and bathroom for this space is shared, as described. The home is challenging to find as it is up a mostly unmarked dirt road off a rural street, but getting there is half the fun.

We spend one night at Gwens wonderful house on our way to Cornwall and it couldn't have been a better start for our holidays. Gwen gave us a warm welcome with a nice cup of tea and showed us a beautiful walk. Everything was just perfect.

Gwen's house is a real place of little treasures and hospitality. While very remote and peaceful outside, with various places to sit down in the garden and access to some hiking paths - the house is greeting one with a very cosy, warm atmosphere and invites to come together for a nice chat - the big kitchen is an especially great meeting point. Gwen and her friends were very nice to be around, and interested in sharing with us. Gwen was also super in her communication previous to arrival and very helpful with what to do and find in the area. And yes - Gwen's house is in a remote spot and perfect to relax - but some Pubs and Leeds castle are really just a short drive down the road. So it is actually also a very nice base to experience the Garden of England!

Lovely house and peaceful setting. Very comfortable and stylishly decorated property, well situated for visiting this beautiful part of Kent. Gwen could not have been a better host; most helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend her home to any would-be visitor.

Gwen made us feel very welcome even though we were only staying one night. The property is VERY secluded and part of the adventure is driving through the country lanes to find this oasis in the Kent countryside. The bed was so comfortable my wife took down the mattress details because she had one of the best nights sleep for a long time. No hesitation in recommending this property if a relaxing secluded location is what you are looking for.

Gwen User ProfileGwen is a superhost.

I love living in the country, growing my own food, cooking healthy and delicious meals, and sharing them with friends family, and now my guests!

I have travelled a lot for my working life, and my house (and menus) are full of things and ideas that I have brought back from other places. I have mostly worked on the African continent, but also in Asia, South America and Eastern Europe. I have always enjoyed meeting new people and seeing new places.

My house is full of books, and you welcome to curl up and read by the fire, if that's what you'd like to do, or to go out and explore all that Kent (and even London, its just over an hour away) have to offer.
