The space

This building affects all who enter. High ceilings, views over the town, wonderful courtyards. There are many enthralling tales from within and around this treasured building, steeped in history.
Prime Ministers, musicians, artists, the religious, and celebrity chefs - have all touched this building – or rather, the building has touched them. It transcends all those who enter – timeless architecture that has integrity, meticulous brickwork, beautifully proportioned rooms, in a monastic atmosphere.
Former Prime Minister, Paul Keating attempted to convert it into a conservatorium of music, Ben Chifley was named after it, Kevin Rudd launched policies, concert pianist Geoffrey Tozer lived upstairs and played his baby grand downstairs, fashion parades, poetry evenings and an opera have been launched in the cathedral like courtyard.
The architecture has integrity and gives beauty to everyday acts. Each room, so perfectly proportioned, is charged with mood, edified by simple and timeless architecture. The building’s special beauty comes from its glorious light and the endlessly changing play of interior and exterior. Flooding through the forty one windows, some still holding the original hand-rolled glass, the rich light fuses the personal and the intimate with the boundless world beyond. There is transcendence in the dawn entering the bedroom windows. The distant hills and the oncoming weather hesitate in the windows lining the hall. The winter sun warms the old sofa in the living room. There are no boundaries as the silver moonlight engulfs the kitchen, creating a nocturnal chiaroscuro.
The upstairs residence is classically proportioned, with a formal dining, kitchen family room, three large bedrooms, a truly magnificent bathroom and ensuite,

A lovely old stately home in need of a little TLC. Better communication pre checkin is needed.

Had a great 3 nights stay; hosts were very welcoming and personal, was left alone and had full run of the house - grand old design from 1881 and once owned by Paul Keating was a real surprise! Would stay again

This is a character filled building, the room was so spacious, warm and comfortable with beautiful views of the hills and town. The room had a massive desk, great for spreading out work. I really enjoyed meeting the other guests and had a number of interesting conversations. I felt relaxed and at home staying here, was even able to have friends over one night for dinner which was fun. Recommended.

Benedict House was a beautiful place to stay. Large bedrooms, giant bathroom, gorgeous house and a well equipped kitchen meant that we had everything we needed for a really relaxed stay. Will definitely be back one day.
