Converted Smithy of a Victorian tin mine, a World Heritage Site situated within 16 acres of natural woodland on the banks of the River Tamar. Relax with a glass of wine on the covered verandah whilst enjoying the panoramic views and wildlife! All bookings for this cottage include complimentary cancellation insurance.

The space

Surrounded by natural woodland, the cottage is the former smithy of a Victorian tin mine. It is grade II listed and has been sympathetically converted to provide comfortable accommodation for two people. The mine itself is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it lies within the Tamar Valley AONB.

Guest access

The guests will have full use of the cottage and its facilities and access to the footpaths around the mine.

Interaction with guests

Nick Cole, the owner, lives on site (in the former Miners' Dry & Boiler House) and will be available to answer any questions and assist with any problems.

Other things to note

There is restricted mobile reception - limited EE reception is available - however there is a landline in the cottage which accepts both incoming and outgoing calls. There is WiFi but the speed is quite slow.

The Count House is approximately 15 metres away but is screened by vegetation. The gardens are not enclosed but privacy will be respected by the guests staying in The Count House and by the owner, Nick, however you might be paid a visit by his dog Jess! The Count House guests will have access to the shared washing machine which is in a lean-to adjacent to the living room end of The Smithy.

The Smithy is approached down a single track well-made-up public bridlepath which is fine for most vehicles, but if you have a very low slung sports car or other vehicle you are concerned about please check suitability.

There is a parking space approximately 50 metres from the cottage (you can park outside the cottage to load/unload). There is additional parking for additional or low-slung vehicles just off the road at the top of the bridlepath (a few hundred metres away from the cottage).

Complimentary cancellation insurance is included. In the event of the party not being able to take up the pre-booked holiday due to death, injury & illness of any guest or close relative or fiance(e) of a guest (with the exception of suicide or deliberate self injury, intoxicating liquor or drugs), all monies paid less £25 and all AirBnB service charges and commission fees incurred, will be returned. All claims must be made in writing within 3 days of the occurrence of the event and be supported by documentary evidence which is satisfactory to the insurance company. In the event that the cancellation is not covered by our insurance, provided sufficient notice is given and we're able to successfully re-let the dates booked all monies paid will be refunded less any costs incurred.

This is an amazing place. It basically feels like a home away from home. The cottage I could live in permanently, its beautiful. The location allows you to do as little or as much as you want. Very relaxing!!!

Greg and Nick were so lovely, they were extremely friendly and the place was absolutely fantastic, a lovely location close to a village with lovely views, it was more than we could've expected. Also Nick and Greg even helped with leaving my boyfriend w bottle of wine in the fridge for his birthday!

From the moment I saw the Tin Mine on the web site I was hooked. Exactly what my husband and I needed, life in rural Cornwall, quiet, picturesque and away from modern life. Greg made the booking etc easy and was able to keep in contact to amend our needs etc, excellent host 10/10.

Greg was easy to contact prior to our visit and our arrival was smooth. The cottage was completely perfect and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location is gorgeous and there are lovely walks around the local area. The village was very sweet and everyone was friendly and welcoming. The wood burner was great and created a cosy environment in the cottage.
