One of three charming cottages in a converted cortijo sharing a stunning pool overlooking rural olive groves. Guide book recommended by Alastair Sawday peace and tranquility combined with access to the cultural centres of Granada, Cordoba, Malaga and Antequera.

The space

Casita Liebre (meaning Little Hare House) is reached through the original farmyard doors leading onto the courtyard.

Accessed from the courtyard, the accommodation is based in the oldest part of the reformed Cortijo with low beamed ceilings and niches retained from the original building.

The original walls are thick, providing coolness in the summer and retaining warmth in the winter. There is a lounge, with large comfortable Moorish style divan sofas and a log burner for cool winter evenings. There is also satellite television. French doors provide light and access to the courtyard. An open staircase leads upstairs

A low doorway takes you into the fully equipped kitchen which also opens onto the courtyard through French doors.

There is a full sized electric oven/ hob plus a fridge with a small freezer compartment:essential for cooling the local beer and wine! A good range of plates, pots, glasses etc. allow for home from home, relaxed food preparation. Basics (such as salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc.) are provided as part of our service. There is a kitchen table to seat four for dining.

Upstairs there are two twin/double bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms, under a pitched beamed roof. Both bedrooms have comfortable twin beds (or a double, if required); a wardrobe; a small dressing table and each opens into a bathroom with walk-in shower; toilet and basin.

Outside there is a large private courtyard planted with jasmine and lavender, surrounded by traditional high white walls. You are not overlooked by the other casitas. There is outside seating for relaxing and a table for eating, with sails providing shade on our hot Andaluz summer days. A barbecue allows you to make the most of outside living. Guests are welcome to smoke outside in their own courtyard.

Our licence number from the Junta de Andalucia is No. de Registro VTAR/GR/000760.
Our Tax Identification number for IVA (VAT) is B(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

Guest access

The communal patio and pool area is shared by a maximum of 10 guests and is set on the side of the hill facing fantastic views of the valley, hills and olive groves. There are tables and chairs provided for eating, or sitting with a cool drink and watching the sun set…… There are also cushioned loungers for sun lovers! The pool is set on the edge of the patio and has a comfortable seating ledge in the water, giving you somewhere to sit and keep cool whilst you read or just gaze at the view…..

There is an outside shower room with toilet and basin so that you do not have to return to your casita once ensconced in the sunshine.

There is also a laundry room accessed from the pool patio area, with a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board for communal use.

Interaction with guests

Marylynne and Gillian are resident in a private part of the cortijo all year round and available to help and advise guests on making the most of their holiday.

Other things to note

A car is essential both to access the cortijo and to make the most of Andalucia's culture and history.

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful location. It's about 15 mins drive outside of iznajar with the last section through the olive trees. We had a day trip to Granada but otherwise just visited local villages and enjoyed the pool. We were very fortunate as there weren't any guests in the other accommodation so we had the space to ourselves. Gillian and Marylynne were excellent hosts. They live on site and are happy to answer any questions or just stop for a chat. They recommended and booked a wonderful restaurant for us. They also sent very good directions and a list of things provided and items we might want to bring in advance. It's worth noting that a car is essential in this location and if you want to go out for dinner etc you do generally need to drive. The accommodation did have a good kitchen though for making meals on site.

Gillian and Marylynne were lovely hosts, and their Cortijo is beautiful - we had a fantastic experience staying with them. The photos don't do it justice - the Cortijo is a beautifully restored traditional spanish home, with it's own private courtyard, beautifully furnished with large private bathrooms for each of the rooms. It's very rural - a car was definitely necessary, but the countryside is awe-inspiring, and the Cortijo has amazing views onto olive groves on all sides. We found our stay super relaxing, and it was a perfect way to get a feel for life in rural Andalucia!

My family and I had a lovely stay at Casita Liebre, because of the wam hospitality of Gillian and Marylynne. The casita was beautiful, clean and really fully equipped (that last fact is, in my experience, a rare thing in most holiday apartments). Gillian and Marylynne were very helpful and had good recommendations about what to do in the surroundings and where to eat. Because of that, we had a perfect stay in Andalusia. Of my 19 Airbnb-experiences so far, I can say our stay in Casita Liebre was the best. I would recommend everyone, who is looking for a quiet and easy holiday in Andalusia, to visit Gillian and Marylynne.

Gillian & Marylynne are very kind, helpful hosts. They have been in the area for a while and provide excellent tips for dining etc. The former farmhouse is beautifully located far off the main tourist routes; nevertheless, Cordoba and Granada are well within a two hours drive. Our casita was tastefully renovated and very well maintained and offered all the comforts we could wish for. A nice pool behind the house with a beautiful view on olive orchards and the nearby hills was our favorite spot after returning from sightseeing. The next supermarket is a 20 minutes drive away; olive oil can be bought nearby. We had a wonderful and most relaxing time and highly recommend the casita to anybody seeking quiet, comfort, and nature.

Response from Gillian & Marylynne:
Our nearest large supermarket is 20 minutes away in Rute for a major shop. However, there are two small 'auto-servicios' in Fuente de Cesna which is five minutes from the Cortijo. These are small family run shops which stock most of the basics (some village ladies never leave the village to shop so there are definitely all the staples and more!). There is also a bakery, so this covers most emergencies. There is also a local market in Fuentes de Cesna on a Friday where there is a vegetable and fruit store.

Gillian and Marylynne were exceptional hosts and provided everything we needed both in advice and in amenities. We had a wonderful stay in the Casita Liebre. The location was great for a relaxing break between Seville and Granada. The accommodations were clean and they provided everything we needed and more. I'd recommend them without reservation.

Marylynne and Gillian are sisters who bought the old cortijo as a retirement project after both living and working in various parts of the world. Andalucia has given them a home which reflects a perfect blend of their South African roots and desert childhoods,
