The space

The house features two bedrooms with 2 king size beds, a pull-out full size couch that sleeps two, an enclosed patio-style dining room overlooking the desert, a fully renovated kitchen and bath, and an outdoor fire pit and jacuzzi. The house is uniquely situated in a very private and remote part of Joshua Tree a 20 minute drive from 29 Palms Highway.

Of note: the last two miles leading up to the house are graded sand. You don't need 4-wheel drive to access (although if you do have it, that's great)--otherwise, just go slow ;) .

Guest access

Guests have access to the main house and surrounding outdoor space. There are some quirky structures on the land (not uncommon in the desert). Namely, a vintage bus and some no-longer-used livestock pens. We ask that you love them from the outside, but don't venture into them (for safety).

The neighbourhood

North Joshua Tree is an extra-special part of the region, neighborly, but very private, with huge sweeping views of the Joshua Tree valley. A quiet, remote, spiritual and calming environment that is close to all that the National Park has to offer.

Getting around

Several roads leading to the house off the 29 Palms Highway are not paved. Neighbors have requested that people drive slowly. (During wet seasons an all-road vehicle with 4 wheel drive is ideal.)

Other things to note

The house is wonderfully private, in part because it butts up against 1000+ acres of military land. Interaction with 29 palms marine base is nil, but you will see posted signs that let you know that the land to the north belongs to the US military.

My friend and I had some overlapping vacation days and wanted a little relaxing getaway in Joshua Tree. Jess (the property manager) was very communicative and accommodating. All of her suggestions of how to prepare were spot on, and she even helped us trouble shoot some issues when we arrived. The house is certainly secluded and peaceful. The dirt roads are intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it, you feel like a local! This is a great house for small groups looking for a home base after a day of hiking. The hot tub is a stellar bonus! WHAT I WISH I KNEW: In the spirit of full disclosure, the house is a little rougher around the edges than the photos would suggest. We had issues securing the doors, as many of them don't fit properly into the door frames, or are in need of some repair. Jess was very attentive and had the handy man come down to check it out. We were probably being overly cautious, but being two women in the secluded desert, we wanted to make sure it was safe not only for us, but also for our belongings should we want to go out for the afternoon. We brought a small terrier with us, and didn't feel full confident leaving him in the house for fear that he would get out. The surrounding yard is full of what looks like incomplete construction, an old bus, and piles of wood, tires, pieces of glass, and some garbage strewn about. It actually adds to the apocalyptic aesthetic but might not be totally safe for children and small dogs.

Great spot! Very secluded from town and from everyone else. Loved all the details and furnishings. Wish we would have been able to enjoy more of the outdoor area and hot tub as that weekend we got high wind warnings which kept us indoors.

We had the best time! The house was clean and secluded and exactly what we were looking for. The check-in process was super easy with a lock box on the front door, and Molly and Jess's directions for how to do everything from connecting to wi-fi to finding the place were accurate, thorough, and super helpful. Would highly recommend this spot! Take advantage of the fire pit, and enjoy being able to see a stunning array of stars at night.

We had a great 40th birthday celebration at the Desert Dreamhouse! Remote, beautiful, and stocked with all we needed. Dark skies at night, blazing fires, and silence all around. The hot tub is a major bonus and even though it didn't get "hot" the first night, a text to Molly the next day had it fixed in no time at all. Super responsive host, great communication, and all the amenities we needed just a short drive away in JT. Will be back for sure! Thanks for such a wonderful home and experience!

Our trip was a surprise 3 day, 2 night getaway to celebrate my girlfriend's 40th birthday. Jess was quick to respond, happy to help and gave lots of good tips about nearby places to see & things to do, and gave great instructions about finding the place and driving safely on the section of road that was unpaved. We had zero trouble finding the place, or on the road in. Everything was exactly as pictured, a really wonderful home. The kitchen and screened dining area were great. We didn't use the wood burning stove because we didn't need it, but it was a really nice touch. The turntable was a blast, can't remember the last time I've used one! They also have a vast assortment of books to choose from. We used the charcoal grill to make steak & potatoes the first night, hamburgers the next, and used the stove in the morning for leftover steak & eggs. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment (cast iron pans & literally everything you could need - including a cherry/olive pitter!) and spices, and some refrigerated stuff too. We brought charcoal with us, but someone was nice enough to have left some, too! The fire pit was great, the hot tub was so relaxing, and we could see so many stars! We spent hours out there, just enjoying the silence and the stars. This was such a wonderful time out from everyday life. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family, we could not have asked for a more enjoyable stay. Thanks so much to Molly and Jess for hosting a jewel of a getaway. We loved every minute there.
