About this listing

Stay in the private, air-conditioned cabin directly on the Buffalo. Enjoy our fishing dock, river views, and private put in/take out deck. Feel free to bring your own kayak! Rentals available a few miles away at Buffalo River Resort. Great star viewing. Amish country is just a few miles down our road for sorghum, pickles, jams, honey, produce, etc. [Note: Recent reviews refer to our former space, an RV. We have graduated to renting our cabin instead. All other info on listing is current!]

The space

Full private access to the Buffalo River makes this space unique! The cabin is on stilts and is accessed up a short flight of stairs. The "front" of the cabin is really the back, because the front door faces the riverside. Walk down the slope through the backyard and you're standing on the bank of the river. Bring firewood and enjoy the firepit. Firewood is for sale locally. Chairs provided for campfire gathering.

Fridge & freezer, hot plate, coffeemaker, dishes and cookware provided in the cabin. Please note there is no microwave, so plan accordingly. There is a convection toaster oven that can fit a 12" pizza.
Your shower is inside the cabin, while the toilet facilities are in an "outhouse" on the porch. Please see the house manual for details on how to use the modern composting toilet!

We are on a flood plane here, but floods are rare, typically once a year. In the event that flooding affects your reservation, I will notify you as soon as possible and grant a full refund if a cancellation due to weather is necessary.
(Please note: If you have additional guests who don't mind camping, we also have a "BYOTent" option under a separate Eagle & Otter listing.)

Guest access

Backyard & Private riverside dock for fishing or kayak put-in.
Smoker grill for charcoal or wood grilling

Interaction with guests

I will aim to be available to meet you at check-in if possible. It's a chill vibe here. I'm a songwriter so that's usually what I'm working on, or outdoor projects. I'm pretty quiet and will leave you to do your thing, but I encourage you to let me know if you need anything at all. Please check out our local guide here in the listing for recommendations on local food and other attractions.

Other things to note

I do provide coffee, tea, and grits if you want to cook your own. It's tough to predict what people want as far as breakfast foods, but coming later this summer I will be debuting a made-to-order room service/to-go menu. Animal lovers will find the place delightful. If you have a strong dislike for pets you may want to stay elsewhere. 3 cats and 2 dogs live on the premises. The cats are outside cats but they do mainly hang out on the cabin porch. The dogs are often outdoors but will be put up at night to keep things quiet. You also might see and hear some domestic ducks around the cabin. They visit underneath the deck when they want a snack, and I keep a metal barrel of corn on the porch... if you want to give them a treat, a single scoop is fine.

Laura's place blew our minds! Right on the beautiful buffalo river among ducks, kittens and fireflies. We had never seen anything like it. Laura is so caring and thoughtful and we had great conversations. She is very respectful and let us have our own space and still we felt looked after. We definitely recommend this host to other travelers. The turtles are very shy :)

Miss Laura's place is a great escape from reality. Her eclectic decorating and landscaping gives the wanderer a great opportunity to escape into a daydreamers paradise. I wish i had more time to actually enjoy the space and explore, good excuse to go back.

Laura was a fantastic host. She really looked after us. The host ideas section is really helpful and we used it throughout our stay. It's a beautiful spot and this cabin is exactly as described. I highly recommend it.

We loved this cute little cabin. It was just the right size for what we needed--a place to hang out in the evenings & a comfy bed to sleep in. Worked out well for myself and my two friends. Laura is super sweet and we enjoyed watching the ducks every morning. We would definitely go back!

awesome retro RV and awesome area! the Buffalo River was beautiful, as were the surrounding rolling hills and open fields. a couple of fluffy chickens roam the property and Miss Laura was a perfect, accommodating host!

Miss Laura went out of her way to make us feel really welcome in the old RV parked next to her riverside cabin. The RV is old so has quirks which we loved. We brought food to prepare ourselves so she provided additional utensils and pans to make this easy but there was cooked food available in nearby Lobelville. This place is on a quiet road to nowhere (about three miles long) so Steve was able to do his early morning run in peace along this beautiful valley. Farm produce and artisan products available from many small homesteads along the way. This place is just perfect if you love nature and rural life. Miss Laura chatted to us and made a number of suggestions for visits and activities that worked out just perfectly for us - we shall return to England with a little more insight into rural America - thank you!
