JT's place was in a beautiful new building and centrally located for my business trip to San Diego. JT's friend Jamie checked me in, and she was awesome! She went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Some minor issues with the place were, as others have noted, there's a lot of construction nearby, and so it is a bit loud with the windows open. With the windows closed, everything was quiet and nice, but the A/C was not working properly, so the unit only cooled down to 81 degrees during our stay. I'm sure this is easily fixable, and if so, I'd be more than happy to stay there again any time. All in all, a good experience.

There were multiple things that happened within the first 20 minutes that made me decide to not stay there. 1. The hosts picture is of two women, when in reality it's a man. There was no explanation, which threw me off. 2. When we arrived at the apartment (he came down to get me from a nearby cafe) the electricity was out. The host let me know that he was on his only one hour break from work and he didn't feel like using it to call management. He said he would try to call after his last appointment which was over 4 hours later. The host said he hoped I didn't have to charge my phone (which I did) and said that I could go to a coffee shop if I needed to. 3. This is the biggest reason I wasn't going to stay at this apartment. The host showed me around the apartment and then wasn't leaving. I was confused as I had booked the entire apartment. I started asking questions and he said something about "shared" space. I asked more questions and then quickly realized that he meant that he would also be staying in the apartment all weekend. I told him honestly that I was sure I had booked the entire space. He said I must have "misread" the listing because it was a shared listing. I asked if we could pull up the listing and he couldn't find anywhere that said it was a shared listing, it clearly stated it was for the entire apartment. He then tried to tell me that I didn't understand the name of the listing and that the "housing" part of "2016 San Diego's Best Housing" means it's shared space. He then said he had to leave for his next appointment so I went to a coffee shop where I could call AirBNB. In the end AirBNB confirmed that I was mislead in my stay and that I wouldn't be penalized for not staying at the apartment. I immediately went back to the apartment to get my things. I ended up having to stay in a hotel that weekend, which was great, but I was very uncomfortable with the host not being honest in the listing. As a solo female traveler it was the least ideal situation upon arriving in a new city. I spoke with an extremely helpful AirBNB rep and was happy with how they helped me get through that situation. I do not want anyone else to book this and get caught in a scary situation.

Response from J T:
Wow! Where do I begin. Let me start by saying this. We work hard to open and share our home with guest. We go above and beyond to make guest feel comfortable. You checked out only a few hours after your arrival. I'm certain that if we were given an opportunity you would have enjoyed your stay. Just a few points. 1.) no one has ever mislead any guest. I would encourage you you to look through the pictures on your desktop browser. There's a picture of my wife, myself and my partner Dominic. 2.) Please read the previous 150 reviews by other guest. None mentioned ever being put into a scary situation. 3.) Dominic goes out of his way to make guest feel comfortable. If you had any concerns why wouldn't you just ask to clarify what you felt was wrong. 4.) It's important to understand that not every reservation goes as planned and occasionally there are some errors or miscommunications. Sometimes there's a power outage or construction or bad weather. We work our hardest to make sure every guest is happy. With that being said we understand that in rare occasions we are not able to please everyone. We will use this as a learning experience so we don't make the same mistakes again. Dominic and my self appreciate the feedback and you are always welcome back. Kind Regards ~JT

There are 2 skyscraper constructions in the same block, and 2 other constructions within a couple of blocks. Woke up to the sound of jackhammers and grinders at 7:30AM. Window in the bedroom was broken and was stuck open. There were dirty towels with visible stains placed in the refrigerator. Dirty glasses in the dishwasher. No garbage bin, only a plastic bag hanging on the cabinet handle. Thermostat is set by the host, you cannot change it.

If anyone is traveling to San Diego, I would recommend staying at J.T. 's apartment. Incredible view and easily accessible to downtown San Diego. J.T. is a great host. Very punctual with check in and would periodically check in to make sure everything was going well. The building has great amenities which is a plus. I had a great experience overall and I would definitely rent out again.

This place was everything me and my friend could have asked for. The photos accurately reflect the space. The bed was ultra soft and the sofa was great for kicking back and relaxing. The host made himself available by phone at all times. The place was very clean. I would definitely recommend the place to friends.

JT welcomed us to his apartment. The check in process is very thoughtful. we were given every information we needed about the place. The location is great, awesome view and close the the city center. Parking was easy, the building itself offers guest parking for a fee.In general it has been a great experience in JT's place. I definitely recommend this place for staying in San Diego
