  • Regina was a great host, warm, friendly and prompt with replies. The house is really cosy and comfortable with an amazing view. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come again

  • We had a wonderful time on Achill! The house is lovely, quiet and well located. You can reach the beach by walk in a few minutes and there's a small shop in the village where to buy basic food. It is perfect for a family and people who like watersports and... sheep! I would definitely recommend this place again!

  • Great host. I would highly recommend this house for a break away. Beautiful island. No complaints whatsoever.

  • Fantastic cosy home near the beach. Had a great stay. Thanks

  • Regina was very warm & welcoming.

    Paul2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our Airbnb was perfect. Location was excellent - restaurants, pubs, shops all within walking distance. House was just beside the beach which was great for morning walks. Regina and her husband were excellent hosts and could not have done any more for us. Highly recommended.

    Emer2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place on an amazing island! Although Regina was not there to meet us in person, she was ever so quick to respond to our messages and made sure we had a great welcome at her lovely house. We did meet her on the final day and she was so kind and easygoing. Not in a rush for us to check-out at all. The house was spotless and very well furnished. The beds must have been the most comfortable ones of our airbnb experience so far. We have a two year old son who could safely move around inside and outside of the house. The location is fantastic. We went to Keem beach on a sunny day, which was absolutely breathtaking. And so was Keel beach on a stormy afternoon. All in all a wonderfull experience and we will definately be back! Thank you Regina!

There is also amazing scenery right at your doorstep, with views of the ocean and the surrounding fields with many scenic hiking trails. Central location.
  • Carmels place was much more than expected. Really cozy with fire started for our arrival. Lovely hamper of cereals and biscuits..and milk in the fridge. More than expected. All the little touches on the house is just gorgeous. You'll be treated with a warm welcome. Would really really recommend carmels place to anyone. You won't be let down :)

  • If you are looking for a spot to stay while exploring Achil Island you should stay in Carmel's place. It is self catering and very cozy and quiet. It has a small wood burning stove in the front room to heat the whole house. It has a well equipped kitchen to prepare any meals that you want. It has a Georgre Forman Grill to cook steaks or chops. We had fresh lamb chops from the local butcher and they were yummy. There are grocery stores and pubs close by so you can purchase food or go out for your meals. I would highly recommend Carmel's place.

    Jon2017-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely spot. Gorgeous stove awaited us. Perfect spot to explore Achill. We loved it

    Ann2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Carmel's apartment, the kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom is clean and spacious with a well powered hot shower. The double bed was very comfy and there was an extra foldable bed. Carmel is a helpful and approachable host. Thank you!

    Elena2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best airb&b's you will have. Carmel is a very kind and friendly woman. Beware of her doggy girl, she's super cute and if you start playing with her she'll wont stop requesting for more through the window haha. If you have questions or a need, she's always anxious to help. This flat is cozy and quite big. There's a great kitchen with all the stuff you need or probably not :-) a well sized bathroom, even a fireplace in the living room! The house is based between Keel and Dooagh, both reachable by a nice walk. Thanks for that stay :)

    Josefin2017-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Never had the chance to meet Carmel but her place was spotless. Very comfortable and as advertised. Cozy cottage just minutes from pubs in Keel and some incredible hiking trails. If you're looking for a place to call home after a day exploring the Achill Islands then look no further! Hope to be back!

    Karl2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Carmel was very welcoming and friendly. She even left out some treats for us. Her place was comfortable and clean and we had everything that we needed. It is a great location, close to the beach and restaurants.

  • I highly recommend this house on Achill island. It's very spacious, comfortable and warm. The house was spotless and it was so nice to return here after a day out adventuring the island. I'll definitely return!

    Theresa2016-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were a group of 6 ranging in age from 2 years to 77 years. We found the house to be well laid out, warm and comfortable, situated in a very quiet area. We catered every evening and the kitchen allowed us to do this in comfort- plenty of utensils, crockery & cutlery. As we had teenagers in the group, there was surfing & kayaking daily- so the outside tap & line for washing wetsuits etc was great. the two sitting rooms in the house were a great asset!. I would recommend this house without hesitation

    margaret2016-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay on Achill was exactly what we were hoping for. The house is as good as it looks in the photos, spacious, airy, beautifully appointed and with a lovely view - we thoroughly enjoyed being able to come back after a days walking around the island and relax in the space. Kathryn was very friendly and helpful, quick to respond to any questions we had. We loved the quiet and beauty of Achill itself and hope to come back and stay here again

    Kelly2015-04-29T00:00:00Z

  • We spent 3 nights on Achill - what a place!!! Kathryns house was much bigger than we had thought and a lovely place to come back to after our days hiking and cycling around the island. We went with our three children who chose different beds each night as there was so much choice. Very well equipped. We had a great time and hope to visit again.

Location is ideal for a relaxed getaway, a lovely walk along the beach and near the golf course. Achill is an ideal getaway.. already planning the next trip!

  • This property is well placed beneath an impressive hill and near an equally impressive beach walk where you can experience the 'Wild Atlantic' in all its majesty. The property itself is well appointed and pretty private with open aspect to the west. There is a nice decking area (if the weather permits you to use it). The bed is massive so a comfortable sleep is assured.

The entire ground floor of this luxurious home is for our Guests to enjoy with beautiful views of the Minaun Cliffs and Keel Beach to the front and Slievemore Mountain to the rear. Only 300m to the beach and village of Keel. Relax and enjoy the comforts. It is our holiday home but yours to enjoy in it's entirety without interruption. The weather changes so quickly and as a result, the landscape also. The Cliffs change colour and shade in a heartbeat. The first floor landing is a great viewpoint.
The name of the house is Sáimhín Só which means place of relaxation. We have built and decorated our home so that our guests can enjoy the facilities in comfort regardless of the weather whilst viewing the ever changing landscape affected by its proximity to the Atlantic ocean.
People generally do not come to Achill for the weather but rather for the experience. Achill will leave a lasting memory which will enrich your soul.

Beautiful spacious detached house; lots of natural light and exceptional views. The house is situated at the foot of Slievemore mountain and overlooks the blue flag Silver Strand beach; its 2 minutes walk down to the Strand Hotel/beach and its near the Cottage cafe. Music/food in the Strand, food in the Cottage. Lots of activities for young and old, breathtaking scenery all around. Free Wifi throughout the whole house; Child friendly; Pets welcome; Parking for 3 cars.
Our house has a separate sitting room with an open fire, and comfortable seating. The house is very spacious, with two ensuite bedrooms upstairs and the third bedroom, a double, is located beside the main bathroom downstairs. The kitchen is fully fitted and well equipped. From the sitting room and dining room windows you can look down and admire the waves crashing on the rocks or see people walking on the beach, sometimes you may see people in Kayaks!
Our house looks down on the Silver Strand beach and guests can walk down to the beach in two minutes and to the Strand Hotel which is practically located on the beach. Guests can mingle with locals and other visitors in the two pubs in the village i.e. Strand Hotel and Masterson's pub as well as in the Cottage cafe. Aside from the breathtaking scenery and place of interest to visit on the Island, there are numerous activities on in Achill all year round for children/adults alike, just ask about whats on when you are there. You will see lots of sheep on the lane/roads around the house!
  • It's very rare to see images online that genuinely portray the actual size of the accommodation. However this house was one of the rare few. Extremely spacious and spotlessly clean, the house was everything it claimed to be and more. Maureen and Kevin were perfect hosts and left everything you needed for a wonderful stay. The views were spectacular and it was just a very short pleasant walk to the Strand Hotel and the gorgeous sandy beach. Would highly recommend a visit to this property; and island.

    Lorna2017-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location over looking Dugort beach and at the foot of Slievemore Mt. My wife and I stayed here with our 11 month old daughter in mid September. The island is stunning and the house was spotlessly clean and spacious. It was perfect for our daughter who isn't walking yet but can crawl very fast, she loved the open plan dining/kitchen area to move around. The amenities in the house mean that families of all ages are catered for perfectly. But equally would be great for a couple who want to get away and snuggle in front of the turf fire. We will definitely be back and are already planning to visit again next year with our friends and their kids. We didn't get a chance to meet Maureen or Kevin on this occasion but we were left good instructions on check in and out procedures with no fuss. Best of luck Maureen and Kevin.

  • Can't recommend this place highly enough. It has everything you need for a most comfortable stay, very spacious, great views, close to beach and Maureen and Kevin have thought of everything you might need in the house perfect hosts. We even got the weather! 5 stars

    Ryan2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Maureen house. It is exactly how it's described, full furnished, warm and with a beautiful view. It's the perfect place to relax in Achill!

  • Beautiful spot, short walk to the beach, beautiful views. House was spotless.

    Orla2017-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location - the house was spotless and had everything we needed. Kevin and Maureen were great hosts and were easy to communicate with. It's a great house for families as it's well kitted out for babies and children and walking distance to the beach and The Strand Hotel. Thank you!

    Hannah2017-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, house was brilliant and hosts were very helpful and accommodating. Hope to get back sometime.

    Killian2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in beautiful location. A short walk down to the beach but those with very small children may choose to drive down for ease! House was very large with big bedrooms and very cosy living room. Appreciated the fire pack left for us with fuel, fire lighters etc so we could have a fire on the first night. I am sad to say after all the great reviews I was a bit disappointed as the host didn’t seem very attentive until our last day. The directions on Airbnb were not accurate and my messages asking for more detail on location and where to find keys, were not responded to by the host. Also we were there during Hurricane Ophelia and would have been nice for the host to check in on us and maybe provide candles or torches in case of power cut. Finally, the electricity you pay for on a meter on your last day which is fine, but when it was checked by hosts we were not told exact amount we had used and just charged 50 Euro which I think could have been handled better for transparency.

Beside Heinrich Böll's cottage, Revelation has panoramic views of Silver Strand, Historic Achill Mission & stunning Slievemore sunsets. The house is large & architect designed, with quality finishes, play space & equipment - ideal for two families.
Large open plan living dining space with Achill stone, corner fireplace. Magnificent living room and balcony views of Slievemore, sunset, and Silver Strand beach.
Dugort is the only planned rather than organic village on the island. Our house is located on the farm site of the Rectory of a 19th century mission settlement, on a small hill between two mountains. The site had a path directly to the church, and is opposite the mission village part of Dugort. As you walk the village you can see it was part of an experimental 'model village'. Try to guess which buildings were the school rooms, police station, coast guard, doctor's house, post office, guest house and hotel!
  • This house is fantastic for a big family with everything you could need. We had a great few days and despite the bad weather there was plenty to do both in the house and nearby. There is a beautiful view of the bay and the beach is only a short stroll away. We'd highly recommend and would love to return.

  • House was great, beautiful spot with everything you could need in the house. Dave is a great host too. Very quick and helpful communication

  • We had a fantastic stay at Dave's house. The house is huge with so much room that you can comfortably spend time with family and friends. It has everything you need including a spacious kitchen, dining area and living room with a fire place. The views are amazing and you have ponies and donkeys that keep you company as well. Everything was perfect, do. go to Achill and enjoy your stay!

  • We had a great time in Dave's very comfortable and spacious house. The location is fantastic with fine views and a short walk to a lovely beach. The communication from Dave was excellent. The children loved exploring the grounds and availed of the games room and pool table when the showers swept in ! The whole family are looking forward to returning to Revelation on our next trip to Achill!

  • Comfortable house set in its own ground with no other homes overlooking it. Loads of space throughout. Very close to a really nice beach (less than 10 min walk - 2 mins in the car). Pizza place (Pure Magic) less than 10 mins drive - good to sit in and take away.

  • Seriously, if you are looking for a place to stay on Achill Island, do not even bother looking for anything else. You will not top this. A true Irish experience. We had a couple questions after checking in and Dave answered within minutes. Unforgettable stay. Loved it. Clean, cozy, and so comfortable. Can't wait to go back to that island and that house.

An amazing traditional seaside cottage with half-door to the beach. The Old Cottage is Quality Assured with Failte Ireland's Welcome Standard. The cottage is on the Wild Atlantic Way, The Blue Way , The Greenway. Music and Craic closeby.
The cottage is in a superb location. Directly opposite a blue flag beach. On the Wild Atlantic Way and near all amenities. Guests will have a secluded private site opposite the beach. We have a great person on site who will interact with the guests and explain all amenities to them. I think it is the most beautiful location if you like watersports, cycling, and outdoor pursuits. Achill has amazing scenery and is a special place. There is a bus stop beside the cottage but a bicycle or car would allow a person explore the area. Public transport is very limited. There is great music available locally and a fabulous coffee shop and pubs are close by. Fáilte agus fiche go hOileán Acla, ar Chósta Thiar na hÉireann. Draóicht, Áilleacht, Ceol, agus Craic. Áit foirfe is ea í ár dteachín le héalú le clan agus cairde go hIarthar fíán na hÉireann agus an tAigéan Atlantach. Bí ag siúil, ag snámh, nó ag bádáireacht ar thrá cailiúil na Dumha Goirt, atá díreach béal doras! Nó glac sos agus bain sult as radharcanna álainn na sléibhte agus na farraige atá le feiceáil timpeall an tí. Áit draoíchtiúil, speisialta is ea í Oileán Acla. I think it is the most beautiful location if you like watersports, cycling, and outdoor pursuits. Achill has amazing scenery and is a special place.
  • We both loved our stay in Achill. The cottage was beautiful and right on the beach front. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and a warm fire on arrival. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute..... we will definitely be making a return visit.

  • My husband and I stayed at Sharons cottage for 4 nights, this is our second visit. We stayed a year ago also for 3 nights. We really love the cottage and the location and will be returning again.

  • Beautiful and cozy cottage with an amazing beach just a few steps away. We enjoyed coming back to it and sit by the fire after a day of exploring Achill. Sunday's music session at the Strand Hotel was great fun! Thank you, Sharon!

    Aleksandra2016-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was exactly what we were looking for: an escape from stressful city living in the wild west! Cosy and spacious, we were met by Sharon's contact on the island, Marz, who showed us around the cottage and welcomed us with fresh brown bread and a bottle of red wine. We did have rain on one of the days, but this was actually our favourite day - curled up in front of the fire with books and hot whiskies, Irish stew bubbling away and listening to the wind and the rain outside. Perfect!

    Elinor2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about our stay was perfect. From the thoughtful home made bread, butter and wine for us on arrival (which didn't last long, it was DELICIOUS), the excellent help and advice from Liam to the fantastic hospitality of all the people we encountered, we found Achill to be an amazing, unique place to stay. The cottage was beautifully kept, we were really impressed. When a fire was lit the front room became a warm, cosy retreat with wonderful views out to the beach. We spent lots of time curled up on the sofas reading.....ahhhhhhh bliss. The bedrooms were incredibly clean and well presented and the bathroom very modern. It's safe to say we loved every minute of our stay at The Old Cottage and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. We will DEFINITELY be returning. Thank you so much Sharon and Liam, your kindness and generosity was much appreciated. We especially appreciated Liam taking the time to recommend walks, places of interest and local restaurants. Really loved the music session at The Strand - walking the short journey home afterwards full of Guinness, under a clear sky full of stars, listening to the sea was a brilliant moment!

    Laura2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sharons cottage is just beautiful: lovely decorated, located close to the beach, setted on this special island. Our little family group felt really welcomed, Sharon organised even a baby cot for our baby-girl. Thank you so much for everything, we are looking forward to our next holiday on Achill!

    Lara2016-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing location! Just over the road from one of the best beaches on the island, with a view of one of the island's mountains, the cottage has a remote enough feel to give you the sense of getting away from it all, but is close enough to everything else you might need during your stay on the island. Warm and cosy in winter (with both log burner and central heating), the cottage was perfect for two, but easily roomy enough for four or six. Kitchen is well equipped for proper self-catering, and the washing machine came in handy after a few muddy walks! It's a shame the cottage was booked for next week, otherwise we'd have seen about extending our stay, as we were so relaxed and wanted to see so much more of the island. Hopefully we'll be back before too long!

  • We had a fantastic time here - the cottage is very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location is fantastic with stunning views of Slievemore mountain and right opposite the beach. The cottage is a home from home and we would highly recommend! Hope to return in the future, Mark & Joanne

A traditional cosy cottage, recently refurbished whilst retaining it's original features and charm. There are 2 bedrooms (1 double bed with en suite and 2 double beds), a living room, bathroom and kitchen.
The cottage is situated in the centre of Dooagh village. An easy 5km trail loops around the centre of the village. The Bus Eireann bus stop is 100 metres away across the road from the local pub "Lourdies". Keem beach is about 4km away and Gieltys Clew Bay pub and coffee shop are along the way. The now famous Dooagh Beach is a 3 minute walk away.
  • Fantastic cottage in the heart of Achill. Pictures do not do this justice. It is in a beautiful remote setting but only 1 minutes walk to the local pub and 2 minutes walk to the Beach. There is also another pub/restaurant just 5 minutes walk. You are also only a few minutes drive to Keel village and Keem beach. The cottage has everything one would need. I would highly recommend staying here and the hosts are fantastic. Very friendly and a lovely Irish family. 5 Star Stay!

  • Cottage was immaculately clean and Aoife had a fire down which made the place so welcoming. Absolutely stunning location to base yourself for Achill and it's within walking distance of beach/pub. Would 100% recommend this place and would come back again ️️️️️

    Jacqueline2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We stay at Aoife’s place on a weekend to visit Achill. Aoife is very good in communication and very helping. Place is super clean, organised, very nice and cosy. We will recommend this place to everyone.

  • Well located nice warm cottage. Host very available for any queries while we were there. Would stay again.

    Tristan2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Aoife was a great host - gave plenty of information on the area and ongoing festivals etc. turf fire lighting when we arrived which was a nice touch - would love to stay again and really enjoyed our stay - Achill is amazing and Aoifes place is the perfect location

  • I stayed here while working on Achill for a few days. The house is amazing - I can't recommend it enough. It is ideally situated to explore Achill. Dooagh beach is a stones through away and Keel beach is just up the road, there are also two pubs within 3 minutes. There is also a cafe in one of the pubs. There are some lovely walks into the bog and up to the abandoned village at Slievemore nearby. The house itself is lovely. No complaints at all. When we arrived there was a lovely turf fire blazing away. Aoife was a great host and the house had everything we needed. I cant recommend this enough. Already looking forward to going back!

    Fionnbarra2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay. Aoife had set a fire for us for when we arrived. Really friendly hosts and a wonderful stay. Achill Island is absolutely stunning too! Thank you!

    Sim2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay on Achill at Aoife's place with family. They were always available should we need anything but in truth we had all we needed. (Was just our own fault we were terrible at keeping the turf fire going!) Handy location for a 3 minute drive to Keel or even more handy for the 1 minute walk to the pub! Thank you so much for letting us stay. We'll be sure to use again when we next visit.

  • Mary and Brian truly epitomise the ethos of the Airbnb experience. Our comforts and holiday enjoyment were firmly at the top of their agenda throughout our entire stay. Fisherman's cottage itself was warm and cosy and was equipped with every convenience and comfort. We enjoyed open fires most evenings with the use of Brian's harvested turf. Mary and Brian's local knowledge was invaluable, they were able to give us advice on the best places to eat, views and beaches to see, the best walks and cycle routes etc. We will be recommending this cottage and Mary and Brian as hosts to all our family and friends and hope to return in the future. We have had the most unforgettable family holiday with lovely memories made. Fisherman's cottage is located in a quite rural setting near the shore and is surrounded by many scenic and safe walking or cycling routes. Achill itself has an abundance of family activities to experience. We highly recommend this endearing cottage and most especially Mary and Brian as outstanding hosts.

    mary2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay in Brian's cottage. You really can't ask for much more for a simple spot to get away on beautiful Achill island. The cottage itself was in exceptional condition. Everything was very clean and the house arranged in a very functional way. It's really a perfect spot for a group on holidays. We were particularly impressed by the amount of information provided in the cottage about the area which was extremely helpful. The location is scenic though it might be tricky to find if you don't have a car (we had a rental car and there was no problem finding the place). T We didn't get to meet Brian but his mom made sure we were taken care of during our stay and she couldn't have been more hospitable. This is an exemplary listing and I can't recommend it enough. Thanks Brian!

    Joseph2017-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great two night stay in fisherman's cottage with our 2 children. The cottage has everything you could possible need..a home away from home. Brian's mom was so welcoming and had plenty of advice for us on things to do in Achill. We quickly realised 2 nights would only be tipping the iceberg!

    Deirdre2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is a most hospitable, generous, thoughtful hostess. The cottage is quite comfortable: beds, kitchen, fireplace. We loved it. A terrific stay.

  • A very cozy place to stay when in Achill island. Brian wasn't there when we were checking in, but his lovely parents made sure that our arrival was smooth and we had everything we needed. Mary also brought us a print out of everything that was happening on the island that weekend which was super helpful!

    Fisherman's Cottage

Peace, tranquility and solitude sum up the feel of this charming, traditional Irish island cottage. Ideal as a romantic hideaway for two, a family home or a stylish getaway for friends...you'll never want to leave.
The Old Fisherman's Cottage, an escape by the sea. The Old Fisherman's Cottage has been our family home for many generations and has recently been renovated making it the perfect island home. Located in the sleepy little village of Dugort, the cottage is set between two beautiful beaches and backs right onto the Atlantic Ocean. A truly rare and stunning setting. The cottage is a traditional Irish build, white washed and renovated by local craftsmen. The interior is stylish and elegant; a stove warms the main room with its welcoming glow and personally commissioned portraits, paintings and art pieces decorate the rooms. The views from the kitchen, dining room, master bedroom and bathroom are simply stunning...The Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes like a calm glass lake and sometimes an angry tempest, it is ever changing. Visitors find themselves enchanted by the views of the ocean, the odd fisherman's curragh rowing by, a small local trawler to an occasional yacht or small ship sheltering from the storms. If you're lucky you'll see playful dolphins flipping about and performing just for you! You'll find a well positioned bench at the bottom of the garden, closest to the sea, the perfect place to enjoy your morning cup of tea or a glass of wine in the evening (although you may need a warm sweater)! Or why not fill up the picnic hamper with goodies and head down to the beach for a perfect afternoon on the sand. Back at the cottage you'll always be lovely and warm, if you don't wish to light the fire we have full central heating throughout and the whole place is triple glazed.
Achill Island is located in the very west of Ireland and is often described as how Ireland used to be in days gone by. The Old Fisherman's Cottage can be found on the north of the island in Dugort, right next to the beautiful Silver Strand beach and overlooked by a magnificent mountain, Slievemore. There are no less than five blue-flag beaches on the island, as well as hills, mountains, cliffs and many places of interest which wait to be discovered. The Atlantic Drive (or Wild Atlantic Way as it is now known) is not to be missed. A drive around the south of the island where the Atlantic Ocean crashes against the rocks and creates its own natural drama. There are some excellent places to eat on the island and lots of pubs to enjoy a pint of Guinness, listen to traditional Irish music and catch up on the craic. In Dugort we have two pubs, one at each end of the village and two amazing restaurants which we can highly recommend. People have come here for years to get away from it all, relax by an open fire and enjoy the spectacular scenery however there is so much more to do if the mood takes you...hiking, cycling, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, kite surfing, fishing, painting, archaeology to name but a few.
  • We have just returned from a 4 night stay and can highly recommend it. The house is beautifully appointed with obvious love and attention to detail. It retains all the old world charm whilst offering all modern day comforts. If you're looking for a spot of tranquillity, this is the place to go.

  • This is a very special place in a beautiful spot on Achill. The house is stylish and intimate with great attention to detail in its design and layout. Fantastic views onto the sea and close to everything. A tranquil spot in the wild atlantic west! David was really helpful all the way along. Would highly recommend to anyone.

  • The old fishermans cottage is an excellent place to stay. The location is idealic. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated. The Kitchen excellently equipped. The beds are very cozy and comfy. Bathroom spotless. We had a great stay and have no faults whatsoever. Everything was exactly as shown in pictures. You will not be disappointed!

  • Wonderful cottage, so lovely decorated, terrific view and gorgeous location !!! We had unfortunately only 3 days for this beautiful house and were spontaneously feeling at home. While leaving we were already planning to come back for a whole week next year! Thank you David for this amazing stay !

    Stefanie2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. We couldn't have wished for anything better. Thank you David for sharing your lovely home with us. The Old Fishermans Cottage and Achill Island will always remind us fondly of our honeymoon and we will definitely be back.

  • I'd hope I have the fortune to stay again. The island is peaceful and beautiful. The pubs are plentiful. Spread out of course, but the remoteness of the island is part of the charm. Restaurants with fresh seafood are also easy to find. We stayed with our 1 year old as well as my brother and his wife. The cottage was very comfortable and David was accommodating through and through with tips, a travel crib, checking in when we arrived to be sure all was well.

    Tom2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful home! David's home is the most perfect hideaway. Stunning view, stylish & extremely comfortable. I will be recommending it to all my family & friends. Thank you!

    Lara2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best airbnb we've ever stayed in! David's place was seriously amazing. My husband and I had the most relaxing, beautiful time there. The location in incredible, look outside and you'll see the ocean, green rolling hills, a mountain, and quite often lots of sheep! David left clear instructions on how everything works and where we could find things, and started our stay off right with a bottle of Prosecco and fire all ready for us to light in the fireplace. We visited in the "off season" for the island, so not many local places were open, but we loved being able to cook in the beautiful and well equipped kitchen! The house was beautifully decorated, spacious and furnished to feel like it was really our home away from home. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return someday. We cannot say enough about what an amazing place this is to stay and how wonderful Achill Island is.

The fact that there were lots of cooking (URL HIDDEN) spices, salt, pepper, sugar teabags! etc meant a lot.... as we like to cook! House was well equipped, and even had books, games and body boards which were a life saver as kids spent hours on the beach every day. Estate is a little run down but would not let it put you off. Excellent value, best priced house on the island I could find as it can sleep up to 10.

  • Excellent location, close to beach & village. Lots of very interesting local history like St Thomas Church & Quaker Colony on the door step. Weather was unseasonably warm & we spent most of time out walking. House is very well equipped & spacious. Only bad point is the electric heating in rooms which means it takes some time for rooms to heat up if fires are not lit, especially in colder weather. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay.

  • Maeve gave us plenty of information to help us start our exploration of Achill Island. Her place is in a building separate from the main residence, completely private. Everything was very clean, the kitchenette has everything you need and the bathroom is modern. A great little spot for two.

  • Maeve was absolutely lovely she made us feel so welcome and really helpful. As we were completely the Achill half marathon Maeve was able to direct us to the route and tell us the pick up time for our pack. Achill Island is beautiful and the location of Maeve s accomodation had amazing scenic views. Maeve also runs the pub which is just a two minute walk away so if you are a lil worse for wear , she might even offer to give you a lift home!! Overall excellent experience and I can't wait to visit the island again because I did not get the opportunity to complete any of the activities the island had to offer.

    A great little spot!

My place is just 100 yards from a mile-long sandy beach and Minaun Cliffs - some of highest in Europe. Keel village is 5-minute drive with restaurants, post office, local butcher selling Achill lamb and fisherman selling from his boat. Eggs can be bought from farmer in the village. Surf school for children and adults, kayaking and watersports. Fabulous walks begin right at the cottage - from easy to mountain hikes. Good for couples and families with kids. Free wifi. Fully wheelchair accessible.
The cottage has one large double bedroom with plenty of place for clothes. The light-filled open plan living area is divided into a spacious fully equipped kitchen, dining area with table and chairs, and a living room with open turf fire and view out to sea. The whole cottage both inside and out is fully wheelchair accessible. On a fine day you can spot dolphins leaping in the water. There's a double bed in the bedroom and a small double sofa bed in the sitting room, suitable for a couple or two young kids. (There's an inflatable mattress if the kids are teenagers and don't want to share.) A cot is also available. The large tiled bathroom has an overhead shower. There's a washing machine, fridge and dishwasher.
We are only a few moments walk from the beach - either along the village road or over a style at the bottom of the garden. At low tide, you can walk into Keel in around 20 minutes. Otherwise it's a 5 minute drive to a small supermarket, restaurants, a pub, post office, pottery, local butcher for Achill lamb and a fishmonger with freshly caught fish. You can get eggs from a farmer in the village. There's lots of watersports, including kayaking and kitesurfing, and an excellent surf school for children and adults. You are welcome to borrow our bikes and boogie boards from the shed. We also have wetsuits. You can take walks straight from the cottage - from easy to mountain hikes. There are many summer festivals on Achill which often include walking tours, so do look out for them. We can also let you know about local events. There are farmers markets on Friday and Saturday mornings. The Greenway - Ireland's longest off road cycle trail along a disused railway line - starts at Achill. It can be walked or cycled. There are spectacular drives along Atlantic Drive and down to Keem Bay, where you can snorkel.
  • We had a lovely time on Achill. The house is in a great setting right on the beach. We had an issue with the heating and hot water but this was promptly addressed.

  • Great location and great host

  • "Just what the holistic doctor ordered" said we, as we pulled away from this beautiful haven of loveliness. This house and it's location to the sea (the sea is your beautiful ever-changing and ever-entrancing neighbour) is just too good to pass up. So good, we kinda want to keep it a secret! An incredible break away from the buzz of buzzing cities for my friend and I, in a beautiful and cozy home.

  • Deborah and family were very welcoming to their home . It was a little cold on arrival but the heating quickly sorted that out . The rooms were very bright with no curtains which wasn't good for small children going to bed in the summer but overall a pleasant stay .

  • Deborah's house is the most beautiful airbnb I have ever stayed in. The views from the living room are breathtaking, and Achill Island is a gem. We only stayed for one night, but I would love to come back for an extended stay. Deborah was communicative and helpful, gave us directions to local sights and an amazing restaurant recommendation. Her house is clean, the shower is amazing (a rare find), and everything about the area is charming. Especially the sheep. There are hundreds of sheep.

    Matt2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah's cottage was simply amazing. The location and views are even better than the pictures show. The house itself is a really clever design with huge windows to capture the fantastic view. It was also lovely and cosy thanks to the underfloor heating and fabulous turf fire! I would definitely recommend as a place to stay.

  • We had a great stay this September. we stayed for 5 nights. 4 adults and four kids and there was plenty of room for all of us. the house is really clean and in a great location for the keel beach. 5 star!

  • We had a lovely stay in Achill. Location is perfect. Communication was excellent and it was great value for money. The house is comfortable and clean with lots of room.

  • Annes house is very comfortable in a great location. Plenty of spacious rooms with a lovely fire to site around in the evenings. We just had a short stroll down to Keel beach. A trip up to the beehive cafe is a must. The view is beautiful from the house.

  • Stayed in Anne's house over the October Bank holiday weekend. Excellent location - 5 minute walk to the beach and village and a great base to explore the rest of Achill. The house was a proper home and not just a holiday home. You could tell it was taken care of by the owners and was very comfortable and clean. Excellent check in and check out too. All in all a really good experience which will be repeated. :)

  • Lovely spacious cottage in a great location.

    Lee2017-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house is within walking distance of the beautiful Beach at Keel, just down the lane. Mind the potholes and sheep as you go! There's plenty of room with 2 double and 2 twin rooms and a good sized kitchen. The views are simply stunning. Only niggle was the electric heaters which made it difficult to control the heat. Allow for electric to be added to the bill when you leave although the listing makes this clear anyway.

    Deirdre2016-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A group of four of us were in Achill for the weekend, this was a perfect house for our needs, no problems at all. Only a short walk down a laneway to Keel.

    Derek2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Start of our stay in Anne house was a bit ruined by a very cold house on our arrival, we were arriving late, with little children and informed a host about it. Nevertheless, house was freezing cold and we were told over the phone by a caretaker that we should know to bring wood for the fireplace if we want to warm the house quickly. Storage heaters kicked in at 3am and it was ok afterwards. Day 2 caretaker arrived and told us that we need to pay extra for heating, bin charges and towels if we want it, as the place is without it (its in house rules, but maybe should be clear in extra charges on the site) we mentioned it to the caretaker and were told Anne should tell us about it and be more clear, but now it's a "pay time" Final disappointment was on how we were treated just after we checked out, we cleaned the house throughout as previously asked for late check out (which we didn't use) we tidied up the kitchen, cleaned the fireplace, folded bed's sheets etc. An hour after we received a demand for extra €50 charge for cleaning and was told by caretaker the house was left "in terrible mess" which was completely untrue! In my opinion the host knew we weren't very happy so she tried to engage us in a dispute straight away, after I prove this is untrue and those claims are without any basis, we were told no need to pay (!) House is ok , quite old chsool, without fireworks, would probably need a bit of pain here and there, but that's ok, Achill is one of the most amazing places so it's not luxury you are coming for! :)

Perched on the cliffs edge this 2 bed cottage looks out over Dugort beach. The interior of the cottage has been recently upgraded with new furnishings and paint job. The cottage will comfortably sleep 4 people. The heating for the cottage is by means of a rustic solid fuel stove which gives a real country cottage feel. The kitchen looks out onto the crashing waves which are almost within touching distance.
The cottage is a cosy old style cottage within a stones throw of a golden blue flag beach. Plenty of bedding, towels ect are provided as is turf to keep the stove fire going. The real gem of this property is the views over Dugort bay and the cliff edge location. A perfect sanctuary to unwind in one of Achill's finest villages.
Dugort Village is one of the most picturesque villages on the Island of Achill. The house looks out over the Silver Strand Blue Flag Beach and sits in the shadows of slivemore mountain. The cottage coffee shop is located 15 steps from the front door serving up the finest of fresh food and deserts. Other eateries near by are Mastersons bar and restaurant and in the other direction is Achill's finest pizza place, pure magic. Daily excursions to blacksod bay leave from the nearby pier. Kayaking, Paddle Boarding and Surfing occur daily on the beach. Check this video out - most of it is filmed under the cottage. (URL HIDDEN)
  • The house is in a beautiful location overlooking the beach in Dugort. It has all the basic amenities you require. The host was really helpful in making contact and gave us lots of information about the house and the area. It was very nice to have the items like tea, coffee, milk bread and wine left for our use. The views from the house are spectacular and it really is so close to the beach.

  • Quaint cottage on a blue flag beach. Mountain and ocean views. What more could you want. Micky and his mom were wonderful hosts. Delicious scones. Bottle of wine. We even got to enjoy a peat fire which was lovely.

  • Well worth the drive, location is perfect, house size is perfect for small family or couple, the host couldn't be anymore accomadating and to me it was huge value for the enjoyment we had.

    Denise2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and two girlfriends stayed at Micky's place for three nights. The location is perfect, and views from the kitchen and second bedroom windows are spectacular. This is an old and draughty house though, even with the wood burning stove lit it can be chilly. The house, although perfect for our stay, is quite basic and could do with a few more modern and homely touches. Micky was incredibly friendly and helpful though, and was always quick to respond when we asked him for anything.

    Caroline2017-08-20T00:00:00Z

  • Stayed here for a week from 29th July. Róna is the perfect host. Fabulous homemade brown bread on arrival including all you'd need milk etc. Such a lovely touch only it didn't last long! Everyone couldn't get enough of it. House is just lovely. Spacious and clean. As a family of four with teenage kids, house was just perfect. Ideal location to visit Achill island and also the mainland. Close to shops and pubs. Had a few rainy days but no matter as the sunroom was lovely to relax in with a good book and look out across the sound. Fabulous view! Such a beautiful part of the country. Have no doubt we will return.

  • We had a terrific time staying at Rona's house. It's beautifuly located with a view on hills and a bay with a conservatory where you can see the amaizing scenery of this part of the Island. House is spacious and clean, kitchen was well equipped with dishwasher, microwave, cutlery, hob, oven and washing mashine. If you are looking for a place close to Greenway, this house is very well located - road to Greenway is 400 metres away in Westport direction. Just follow the main road and then turn left, go straight and you are on amaizing walking and cycling trail (no cars allowed). Internet is good and Rona prepared a tourist info folder for us with all sort of helpful information. Rona was waiting for us when we arrived and she was a very welcoming host. I would recommend this house for a family with kids. Thank you Rona for a wonderful stay!

  • We stayed at Shane's cottage for a weekend in July. Shane and his family were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and there was a fire blazing for us on arrival! Achill is absolutely stunning and the cottage looks out on to the coast with gorgeous views.

    Edel2016-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and great cottage! Sheila next door was lovely and had a lovely turf fire going when I got there. Cottage has everything needed and is spacious. Perfect setting to experience Achill.

    Julie2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I and two children have visited Achill many times over the years. We have stayed in holiday homes both traditional and more contempory plus we have holidayed in different locations all over the island. We loved the location of this traditional cottage which had an uninterrupted stunning view of the Minaun cliffs and the Atlantic ocean. Dooagh is the last village on the way to Keem beach. Shane's cottage is one of the last on the main road leading to Keem. This road can get busy at weekends when the weather is good but this eases during the week. We loved the view and the location as there is a bar with good menu/coffee shop/ and live music only a 2 minute walk away. However, you wouldn't know its there as there is no noise, no straglers at all but very handy to the cottage. Less than five minutes drive and your in Keel which is much busier more tourists etc Dooagh would have more local natives living there. The cottage is in a quite spot without being too remote or isolated as the road it is on leads to Keem beach to the right 5 minutes and to the left Keel 5 minutes. The host's mother lives down the road and she was so kind and helpful. We where running very late and arrived at 1.30am and Sheila had the heating on and a turf fire blazing for us. She had 4 euro in the electric metre for us aswell. We stayed July 2017 for 1 week and probably only spent another 10 euro on electric. There is no other charge for anything else and a large box full of turf was there free of charge aa well which was very kind. The cottage has everything you need and at the same time is very simple. I think that is fairly reflected in the price. If you are going to Achill to enjoy the beaches and all the outdoor pursuits like us but still want a location away from footfall and tourists etc then this is a good choice with a great view and very close to Keem beach. Having a car or bicycle would be a must. We would definately consider here again and I know there are many people who return to this cottage every year as its good value for the money, a good location with a great view. The only negatives really would be the water pressure in the showers was abit weak but we managed ok and the decor abit dated which didn't bother us at all really. Thanks again Sheila and Shane :)

  • We ha d à very good stay at shane s place, facing the océan. The place is clean and quiet.

    Maxime2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately due to sickness we had to cancel very last minute in Shane... however he was a true gentleman and let us reschedule! Would be so happy to book with home again!

    Rose Anne 2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in the cottage! Met with Shane's mother Sheila on arrival who helped us get familiar with the cottage. Its located in the perfect spot to explore the island and its just a few doors down from a pub. Wonderful fireplace in the sitting room was well stocked with as my very impressed Mayo husband said was "good dry turf". Before we left he was already talking about coming back so we will definitely make another trip to the cottage next time we return to Ireland. *An island tip to any future visitors - food service basically stopped on the island at 8-8:30 pm, not sure if this was because of the season being over or if its typical of Achill but just plan ahead!

Comfortable, well-designed house within 500m of beautiful Pollawaddy strand, between Slievemore and Crumpaun mountains. Well stocked with books, art, DVDs and all other basic necessities! Spacious, full of character, perfect family house! Dugort is steeped in history, legend and art. Local hotel. Views to Erris peninsula and wild Atlantic!
Perfect family home, with rugs, books, DVDs, art, solid fuel stove. Great creative space with gallery and desk for writing that novel! Or ideal base for adventuring throughout the island and returning to hot shower and fire! Big kitchen table for late breakfast or even later dinner as the sun goes down behind Slievemore. The Slievemore Hotel is just across the strand and is always welcoming with a big fire in winter.
Dugort is steeped in history unique to the west of Ireland and to Achill island thanks to the Protestant settlement, locally referred to as 'The Colony', which was established during the famine of 1848. The village built by Rev Edward Nangle is still standing and the houses and hotel still in use. St Thomas's church and graveyard are testimony to the original pioneers. The atmosphere in both these places is beautiful. Heinrich Boll, German Nobel prize winner, has bequeathed his cottage to artists wishing to work creatively here and a memorial weekend is held in Dugort every year. Artist, Padraig Mc Caul, has a studio in the colony and I believe poet Paul Durcan lives up the hill! The deserted village, halfway from Dugort to Keel, is so sad and beautiful to walk through. I heard the cuckoo there last May! And that's just local interests on your doorstep!
  • we had a lovely time in Mary's warm and welcoming home. loved the views from the main window, they were spectacular. the cottage is stylish and provided with everything you need for a successful break, including wetsuits, bikes, surf boards etc.

  • Mary's house is in a wonderful seaside location with great views and a coffee shop nearby. It's very peaceful. The house is spacious and well-equipped. There are two decent-sized bathrooms. We were within walking distance of two good restaurants and within cycling distance of some more. Really enjoyed reading some of the books in Mary's collection. Would definitely return.

  • Really enjoyed our trip to Mary's cottage in Achill. There were 6 of us including a small baby and the cottage was set up perfectly. The kids loved having use of the wetsuits and the beach was just across the road! We had lunch one day in a lovely little cafe just a 2 minute walk up the road and also enjoyed pizza at Puremagic kite surfing restaurant which is a 2 minute drive towards Keem. Will definitely get back and stay at the cottage again

  • Myself and 3 friends stayed in this lovely house for a few nights. It was perfectly located for Achill Quest. About a 5 minute drive to Keel Beach where it took place. Very comfortable, warm, spacious house. Really clean and very homely. Barely noticed the blustery weather as the place was well insulated. Sitting room/dinning is lovely and spacious - was perfect for dinner and watching movies (DVD player there). Good signal on our phones which was something we were worried about. Shop just around the corner (cash only) and very handy. You can see the sun rise on a clear day on the beach just a walk across the road. Deserted village is only a 5 minute drive away and loads of lovely art and pottery places in nearby Keel that are worth a look. One advice: Check out what is open and what is not on Sundays! Some pottery places/galleries aren't. Costcutters in Keel isn't but the shop around the corner is. Definitely would recommend this place to others (already have!) and we hope to be back again next year if doing Quest again.

  • Though we never met in person, Mary was extremely helpful and generous and replied quickly. The house was spotless and extremely well equipped. We especially enjoyed the use of the wetsuits and bodyboards! The house is bright, airy and modern but very cosy. The wood burning stove is super! We had a wonderful stay on the island for three nights and the beautiful scenery was well worth the trip (despite the weather!). Thoroughly reccommend this house and host to anyone.

  • Mary's cottage is cozy and perfect for relaxing! The beach is steps away and the wet suits she provided made swimming in September a treat. There's lots to see and do on Achill Island as well. Communicating with Mary was easy and she was quick to respond. We would visit again!

    Katie2016-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in Mary's place on gorgeous Achill. The cottage is beautifully designed and decorated, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We were cosy inside with a turf fire when the wind blew, and out on stunning beaches when the sun shone. Pollawaddy strand is fabulous and just across the road; we visited the "returned" beach at Dooagh, and spent a sunny day at Keem on golden sand with turquoise sea and the mountains all around. Great to be able to borrow wetsuits and buckets and spades. A great holiday!

  • Fantastic views from the kitchen across Keel Bay. One minute walk to one of the great beaches of Ireland. A surfers paradise! The house was really nice, well equipped. Has everything you needed. Teresa was the perfect host, called round to ensure everything was OK but respected your privacy. Really appreciated the fire lit when we arrived. Really comfortable beds. Highly recommended. We will be back.

  • This was our first experience of air b and b and if we do it again expectations will be high. The house was lovely and felt homely.I think holiday homes can be quite clinical. The view was fabulous.Location wise its perfect.Anna couldn't have been more helpful.Would stay again :-)

  • A perfect holiday, thanks Anna & Peter

    Garrath2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a very quiet location - but handy for the main road from Keel to Dugort. A beautiful beach is a short walk away. Well equipped kitchen and bathroom and comfortable bedrooms. A good supply of dvds for any rainy evenings. I can recommend Achill highly and can also recommend Anna and Peter's house.

  • Perfect location for a holiday with family and friends. Spent a long weekend with extended family and 9 month old baby, excellent amount of space, great dinning room and cooking facilities. Short walk to the beach and local pub, wish we could have stayed for longer !

  • Our hosts anna and peter were most welcoming, despite our arrival being delayed by a couple of hours. They provided supplies over and above what we expected including fruit and lovely soda bread. The cottage was very cosy and homely with books, dvd's,music available, just a shame we did'nt have a chance to light the peat fire!! The setting is beautiful and tranquil,Achill is a special place.

  • Great location and the owners are fantastic communicators! House was lovely and homey - not sterile like the other places I have stayed in. Even provided the essentials like milk and tea! Will definitely use this house again the next time I'm back in Achill!

This apartment contains a kitchen / living space with couch and arm chairs, a double bedroom and a large bathroom. It is well and eclectically furnished - all the basic comforts you will need are there and you can park outside your door safely. A fold up / sofa bed can be set up in the sitting rooms space if needed.
The village of Dooniver is charming, a short stroll away and you will be at Bullsmouth pier, looking across to Inis Bigil Island and beside Dooniver Beach. This is not a party neighborhood however if you want to taxi a short distance you can party the night away.
  • Maggie is a wonderful person and a great host! Her house is in a very quiet area. There is basically just one road which leads to the sea. Perfect place to explore Achill island. We slept like babies! In the morning we got home baked bread, irish breakfast, eggs, cerials and coffee, etc. The apartment is very lovely, with nice details, ...wallpapers with flowers, a huge bathtub, which our 2-y-old son loved a lot! Everything is clean! Make you feel, like home.

  • A great place in a beautiful part of the world. It was raining all day and we really enjoyed staying in to watch the Olympics with a cup of tea in a cosy living room :-)

  • Maggie and Courtney made us feel very welcome. We were greeted with a cup of tea and a slice of apple pie. The unit was cosy and clean. The Island of Achill is an enchanting place - recommend to visit. Thanks Maggie/Courtney!

  • We enjoyed our one night stay. We arrived in terrible weather after a long day travelling, but Maggie's warm welcome made us feel right at home. The place is very cosy and peaceful, we felt refreshed in the morning. Maggie was really friendly, helpful and hospitable.

  • Maggie made us feel very welcome, with coffee and pie. She was helpfull and we had nice conversations. The place was near the beach and great for hiking. Thank you Maggie !

  • Perfect place to discover the beauty of Achill island! The studio is just fine and Maggie is very nice!

    frederic2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Host friendly and helpful. beautiful scenery and lots to see in the area. The Accommodation was disappointing. The toilet was malfuntioning. The bathroom floor was covered in bits of carpets. The shower didnt work. We had access to a bath. We spent minimum time at accomodation for obvious reasons. With some basic cleaning and home improvements to modernise it this listing cd be very attractive.

    Jeanne2016-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had some difficulties to find de place, but it is a lovely apartment with very good viewings and well equipped. Maggie was very welcoming and nice with us.
