“ Africola Adelaide, a walk on the wild side. Different and delicious in equal measure, Africola needs to be tried. One of the prettiest rooms in Adelaide, this restaurant-cum-funky-salon is always jam-packed so book ahead, ideally for a seat at the kitchen bar.”

Australian Restaurant
“Orana, which means “welcome” in some Aboriginal languages, is an intimate space home to Chef and Owner Jock Zonfrillo’s findings, philosophy and cuisine from over 16 years of research and exploration of Australian land, produce, people and history. Taking his curiosity and respect for the Aboriginal people, the oldest surviving culture on earth, Jock celebrates all elements of Australia – from the ancient to the modern – and in the process has created a cuisine that is uniquely his own. The Aboriginal philosophy to heal and be healed by the land and to always give back more than you take, strongly influences Zonfrillo’s culinary philosophy. ”

Night Club
“Great place with lots of gaming machines and an uplifting atmosphere. Can be crowded on Friday and Saturday nights in particular. Can access directly from the railway station or via the free city trams. Food can be a bit pricey, except for the upstairs cafe. Great place to hang around and watch footy. ”

Café
“SUNDAY BREAKFAST closeby on Whitmore Square. Great little cafe on the square. Good, fresh options to suit all dietary requirements. Locally sourced, organic, high quality produce. Great coffee and friendly staff with reasonable Adelaide brunch/lunch prices. Most breakfast items coming in around $12-$18. The setting is quaint, airy and a little rustic, though being on Whitaker Square there are some ‘colourful’ characters who stop by and ask for spare change. This isn’t something that bothers me, but it can upset some customers. They run little events and wine tastings so be sure to look out for them on social media. Live music on Friday evenings is a nice touch.”

Café
“Open during the week for breakfast and lunch. But open on a Friday night for dinner. Absolutely my favourite place in Adelaide and only about 15 minute drive from our Air bnb. On a Friday night they have a DJ, quietly playing vinyls such as Bos Scaggs etc. Prices for a main range from $18-$25. But every mouthful is delicious.”

Bakery
“Steven ter Horst runs his eponymously named Chocolatier studio in the heart of Adelaide’s East End. Taking cues from the surrounding abundance of the Adelaide Hills, and his own farming background has allowed Steven to embrace a rich palate of flavours and textures in his products. Never one to assume perfection, he is always striving and learning new techniques and tastes. Recently named in Gourmet Traveller as one of Australia’s leading chocolate retailers and craftspeople. It is not unusual for Steven to be contacted by Chefs and food industry people to comment or collaborate on the industry. Drop in for a coffee joined with a delicious chocolate. Yum!”
