  • Agate's apartment was great. Just as described...spacious, clean and very central to all amenities in Alert Bay. We didn't use the hot tub but it looked inviting. The apartment is located on the lower level of the home which is on the hill overlooking Alert Bay with great ocean and island views. Agate is easy to communicate with and her apartment is well equipped for a very pleasant stay. We highly recommend staying here.

  • It`s good value. The view of the totems and the ocean is so relaxing. I like the terrace with the elegant furniture and the view. Many elegant touches. Thank you Agate.

    Celia2018-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible view at Agate’s suite from either of the decks, the hot tub or the suite itself. I especially enjoyed the books supplied on local culture and brochures and maps of local attractions. Not to mention a great sleep in her cozy king sized bed. 10/10!

  • Logement vraiment confortable et bien entretenu. Just keep in mind that the place isn’t really equipped for cooking. Great place!

    Antoine2017-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very special! Comfy bed, lovely suite, beautiful view, relaxing ... Close to town so easy to explore nearby. Back home but contented just thinking about those hours.

    Anne2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place, glass house is unique and Agate is a perfect host, discreet but always present if necessary... Wonderful place to come back!

    Giancarlo2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • There isn't a stove in the suite which is mentioned in the site but I didn't notice until after I booked. I brought a camp stove and cooked outside and it was fine. There are also a few really great options nearby if cooking isn't your thing. The suite is peaceful and quiet. Agate was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend this suite if you are in Alert Bay.

    Deanna2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was a lovely, very comfortable place to stay. While we never met Agate, it was a breezy hands-off experience; we felt very much at home during our brief time there. Thank you.

  • Though I didn't get a chance to meet Jill, she communicated very well. Her place is charmingly rustic, clean, comfortable, extremely well located, and a great base for exploring a fascinating island.

    Daniel2018-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay, wonderful views of the ocean. It was clean, cozy and comfortable all for a good rate. Jill texted several times to check and see if we needed anything. It was very private and we had our own entrance with a code. My husband and I both loved the place.

    Peggy2018-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable and clean place with a oceonview in the centre of Alert Bay. Such a beautiful island to explore!

  • Great location, close to all amenities. Great view. Great set up. Jill and her friend were very welcoming and helpful. A really nice play to stay.

    Isabelle2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jill’s place is in a great location on the front street that is walking distance to all amenities. She was very easy to communicate with and even though she had to work in Port McNeill, her sister was there to greet us when we first arrived. Although we were busy and rarely at the place during our stay, it served as great home base with a comfortable bed and pillows and an amazing view. I would recommend staying at Jill’s if you travel to this beautiful island!

    Ashley2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot with wonderful view of the ocean. Easy check in. Jill was prompt in replying to all texts. Extras..coffee, tea, sugar was appreciated. Microwave for snacks. Comfy bed. Nice fluffy towels. We’d gladly stay here again.

  • Very nice cottage with an amazing view ! Probably one the best Airbnb we had on Vancouver Island !

  • We had a nice welcome by Beka and her partner although we arrived quite late. The cottage is very modern and cozy. It is very clean and has everything one needs for cooking. On top of this the view is very beautiful. We enjoyed being there and wish we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend it!

  • This place is an incredible gem. Top on our list of many places we have been. Immaculate, stylish yet cosy and homely place. The hosts are extremely warm and . Loved chatting with them. Superb view, quiet and beautiful surroundings. Excellent location within easy access of Telegraph Cove. Superb value.

  • Great host! Great location!

    Joseph2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Without a doubt the most perfect home base for exploring the north island. Beautiful cabin with stunning ocean views from the front porch. Absolutely amazing hospitality — we were greeted with a stocked fridge and a basket of yummy treats. So many thoughtful and unexpected touches. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it to everyone. You guys are by far the best hosts I have ever come across. Thank you for helping to make our trip so special and fun!

    Karly2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a quaint wonderful cottage. It is very well appointed and Casey was a great host. Our kids loved the welcome treats. It isn’t a huge cottage but has 2 good bedrooms separated by the combo living room dining room and kitchen which affords good privacy. The view is fantastic and it was very quiet. We hope to visit again.

  • One of the best Airbnb experiences I've ever had. This place is so sweet! Cute and quaint, and beautiful views. Very peaceful, and the hosts are incredibly welcoming! We'll be back!

    Megan2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Casey's place is fabulous. It really is a "home away from home"; he provides so many amenities (coffee, tea, awesome breakfast options, kitchen materials for cooking etc.) and his family even welcomed us with some home baking. It has a beautiful view, lots of privacy and was a cozy place to stay. I really preferred it to staying in Port McNeill or Telegraph Cove. We went to Telegraph Cove for many of our activities and the fifteen minute drive was no problem at all. I have stayed at many AirBnB - but this was really one of the best!

    Roxanne2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this cute cabin, the hosts were amazing! My family enjoyed everything they offered. It was well stocked and clean. I would recommend this place to anyone and I would definitely come back!

  • Larry is a very likable host and we enjoyed the stay at the BnB very much. It is a simple but clean room and the atmosphere in Larry's pub next door is very nice. (no problems with noise - the rooms are in a separate part of the building) The view of the sea from our room was great. We enjoy sleeping late, so it was perfect, that a late breakfast was possible. It was a continental breakfast with a lot of fresh fruit, eggs, cereals, bread etc. We had a good time at the Orca-Inn and we're happy we stayed not just one but three nights there.

    Oliver2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for your welcome Larry. Our stay was perfect, comfy and quiet. Accomodation is perfectecly located, the sea view is the icing on the cake! We recommend this address at anyone who want visit Alert Bay Arnold & Vanessa

  • Amazing location for the view on this magnificent bay. Walking distance to the center of Alert Bay where everything is there to serve you. Larry is a great host. We really enjoyed our time in this quiet and peaceful place where we could also learn about native culture. Highly recommended!

    Erik2018-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean room with a wide view of the ocean. Breakfast included in our stay was good. The town itself was fairly quiet in the evening, and several restaurants in the area are closed on Mondays. The Inn is very peaceful and within walking distance of Alert Bay's commercial areas. There was a helpful map and local information available in our room. Thanks Larry.

  • Audrey and Frank were very kind and we'd love to stay with them again.

    Clayton2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • What an awesome experience Malcolm Island was. Audrey was super gracious, and the accommodation was great. We brought all our own food and the kitchen was totally stocked with everything we needed to cook all our meals. Audrey had really thought of everything when stocking the entire space, there were even extra toothbrushes in case, like we did, one was forgotten. We had a wonderful afternoon visit with the horse, managed not to leave with Eddie the cat (he really like to be in the car), and were excitedly greeted by very friendly poodles. We cannot wait to go back next summer!

    Sean2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy place with a lovely ocean view. We saw two humpback whales from the front porch, as well as dolphins and sea lions from a nearby beach. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, since not much was open in Sointula. Felt like a friend's kitchen rather than a rental kitchen. Butter and jam and fresh bread were provided, as well as good coffee and cream. And sharp knives too. Add kind, attentive hosts to the mix and this is an easy bnb to recommend for your stay on the island.

    Paul2017-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed two nights at the suite. We loved our time there. Audrey is a great host and very helpful. We saw a whale one evening from the porch and this was way cool. The Island is a great place to stay and Audrey has a great spot on the island.

    (Email hidden by Airbnb)2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Oh wow, what a magical and beautiful place this is! We stayed only two nights and instantly regretted not having booked more! Malcolm Island in general was a highlight of our travels - the island is beyond beautiful and the views from this place are out of this world. Audrey and Frank were there to greet us, and what lovely welcoming hosts they were! They loaded us up with books and cd's, and the most delicious homemade bread rolls, making sure we had everything we needed! Although we spent most of the time sat outside, trying to get a glimpse of a whale, but spotting bald eagles instead! There's a lovely family of deer that come by every evening too. And then of course you have Audrey and Frank's horses and dogs too! I would love nothing more than to come back to this place one day, and can't thank Audrey and Frank enough for their wonderful hospitality! :)

    Emma2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Audrey's place is beautiful and super relaxing. If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the perfect place!

    Dave2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing view. Amazing location. Amazing hosts. This is a very unusual place because the island is relatively remote, and you'll never hear cars or planes. It's hard not to be mesmerized by the bay stretching out, practically at your feet. Audrey is a wonderful host, and we were delighted by the lovely white wine and homemade bread. She took us on walks and introduced us to a local writer/researcher. She's an expert on First Nation art. We'll definitely return. Ed and Diana

    Edmund And Diana2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place, quiet, and everything I could have hoped for. The beach is amazing, eating dinner and watching the sunset was awesome. Audrey made us fresh baked bread, what a treat!

  • If you travel to Alert Bay - and you should - Sue's apartment is an excellent place to stay. It's spotlessly clean, well-decorated, and filled with pretty much every amenity you could ask for (most notably, it has a full kitchen and a washer and dryer; it's worth noting that the wireless internet was a bit slow while I stayed there, but it was still perfectly functional, and Sue mentioned that she'd been having some issues with it lately, so I'm sure this was not the norm). The bed was comfortable and the nights there were almost unbelievably quiet. There was a nice, covered patio in front of the private entrance, though sadly the weather while I was there was not quite conducive to lounging around outside. Most importantly, Sue was a perfect host. She was very good about communicating with me before and during my stay and was kind enough to offer me a ride from the ferry (which is definitely worthwhile if you're coming over with no car, as the apartment is a fairly steep walk uphill from the ferry landing). Sue's advice for places to go on the island was very helpful, and she keeps the apartment stocked with lots of maps of and information about Alert Bay. Make sure to walk the Ecological Park and Big Tree Trails, both of which have trail heads close by.

    John2017-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sue was very friendly and welcoming. The appartment was clean and convenient. We enjoyed oud stay

    Gilles2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Sue’s lovely place! The house has everything you need to cook, have drinks and relax with good art and decor to boot! The location is fantastic- Alert Bay is not to be missed- and staying 3 nights was perfect for us. Sue was a great host, and great communicator. Thank you again! We hope to return!

  • Sue's place was a great place to stay in Alert Bay! It was a very clean and comfortable space with everything you need for an extended vacation. It's also close to all of the walking trails around the island and Sue was more than happy to help us out with any questions we had, or with anything that came up! Would highly recommend for a good get away!

    Graham2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sue's place--and Alert Bay, in general--was awesome for our short getaway. Sue's is within walking distance to the vast majority of Alert Bay-related sights, including the downtown and the cultural centre. It's a very comfortable space; it's kitchen is particularly roomy and well-equipped, which we would have made use of had we stayed longer. Sue, though not physically present (it's the holiday season, after all) was very attentive to our needs, and checking in over email. All-in-all, a wonderful stay (and the people of Alert Bay are *so* friendly and inviting)!

  • This is such a lovely place! The location is perfect, right at the beach with lots of wildlife viewing opportunities. Every day when I came back from a trip, being a bit tired already, the beach and sunset were so tempting I went for another walk outside. James gave me a warm welcome along with some food and wine in the fridge. He is a GREAT host. I was even offered some fresh halibut and crab a few days later. Delicious! The kitchen is fully equipped, oven, stove, microwave and fridge. Plus this unbeatable view! I highly recommend staying at the cottage for more than just a few days. Will try to be back. If only it were not so far from Germany :-)

  • This is a beautiful location and an incredibly comfortable cabin with a wonderful view.

    Margaret2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • James' waterfront cottage is a unique and wonderful place to spend some days at the northern Vancouver Island seaside and explore wildlife. We enjoyed the views from the kitchen and deck and James' hospitality. We stayed 4 nights with our baby and James provided us with a cot to build a bed for our son. All in all it was a fantastic experience and we would highly recommend it.

  • Super delightful cabin/floathouse right on the beach. During our week we saw otters, bear, deer, humpbacks, and (Website hidden by Airbnb) well as our own pair of bald eagles...right from our porch! The inside was super nicely redecorated.

  • You can truly not get any closer to the sea than this location without being on a boat. Stunning views, wildlife all around and a lovely home to match. Easy to get to, and well located for the local areas of interest (in particular telegraph cove for the whale and bear watching trips). Little BBQ on the patio means you can really enjoy the outdoors and the beach on the doorstep. Communication with James was great which made it nice and easy to check in and out. A really lovely place to stay.

    Ian And Hatty2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, location was beautiful. We loved our 4 nights here and being able to get away from it all. It was very quiet and peaceful but there was plenty to do in the area. James was very welcoming and friendly and the cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We would really recommend North Island Kayak and Tide Rip Grizzly bear tours from Telegraph Cove.

    Jenny2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • One week at the cottage. Super, comfortable cottage by the beach. James made us feel very welcome. He had many lovely treats for us on our arrival. It was a great spot to tour the north Island. We saw, walked and fished about 8 local rivers. While we were up Island we got into a foot of snow in the higher elevations. The ice draped trees and snow covered mountains were a magnificent backdrop to the rivers and ocean. Port Alice is a beautiful drive with stunning scenery. As it got dark by 5pm there was lots of opportunity to catch up on some reading, watch a few movies and cook. James has the kitchen in the cottage very well equipped. Lots of pots and pans and everything we needed for some fantastic meals. He also had olive oil, balsamic vinegar, coffee, tea, etc. on hand if you needed it. We hope to be back in the summer to explore the Broughton Archipelago.

We are 20 minutes from Telegraph Cove And 7 minutes from Port McNeill
  • Carmen and Paul were gracious hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We appreciated that they were willing to be flexible with our accommodation request, and we felt very comfortable discussing our needs with them. They invited us to meet their family and we enjoyed interacting with them all. The room was clean and adequately sized, the bed was comfortable and we slept well. We made use of the coffee machine and refrigerator in the common room during our short stay. The bathroom was clean.

  • We are travelling with our infant son and everytime was arranged perfectly. We had a lovely stay and the breakfast was very good. The Day of arrival we had a whale watch tour from telegraph cove and this was a very nice place to relax after that trip. The BB and carmen both get a dumps up!

    Jennifer2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Carmen and Paul are excellent hosts. They are so welcoming and made me feel at home right away. I would love to come back.

    Ruth2018-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Carmen and Paul are extremely kind people and perfect hosts. Their place is cozy, very clean and in the woods. The hot tube in the backyard is a cool experience. If you looking for a lot of privacy it is probably not the best place as you share a floor potentially with 4 other people. But if you wish for interesting conversations, tips what to do in the area and nice hosts, this is the perfect place.

    Christina2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying with Carmen. Carmen was so welcoming and friendly right from the start, full of local tips and recommendations. Carmen was an excellent host who really went out of her way to make sure we had a great time sharing her home with her.

  • Second time staying with Carmen & Paul. Always amazing!! Like staying at home away from home.

    Holly2015-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time at Paul and Carmen's house. Their home is beautiful and their hospitality raises the bar in my opinion. I love their enthusiasm for the beauty of the area they live in and their love if nature. We stayed an extra night because their enthusiasm was catchy and that extra day gave an opportunity to go whale watching. We will definitely visit again.

    Judy2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Carmen are so, so wonderful! Amazing recommendations for food, whale watching tours and so much more. Both lovely to chat up a storm on rainy days with a cup of tea! If you are truly looking for that north island experience, their airbnb offers that entirely. I would come here again in a heartbeat. Plus their dogs are so cute!

You’ll love this beach front place because of the ambiance, the outdoor space, the quiet neighborhood and the abundance that nature it has to offer. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and furry small pets. While staying with us arrangements can be made for whale watching, fishing charters and sailing charters. If you like to kayak you can bring your own or your own fishing boat.. enjoy the tranquility of the ocean. You are close to the Broughton Archipelago.
the guest room is a separate building from the house connected by a covered porch you will have a private entrance --- its about 500 sq ft one large room with a separate bathroom with in. electric heat and a glass fronted wood stove there are two 8 foot sliding glass doors with covering drapes leading onto a 8ft by 40 ft deck connected to the covered porch overlooking the ocean there is a self contained kitchen with a stove and fridge dining table and lounge chairs with and a door from the bathroom onto a large covered porch which contains chairs a picnic table barbeque, wine cooler, fridges a freezer and the hot tub as a common space ALL WE ASK IS PLEASE SHOWER BEFORE HOT TUBBING
this is a quiet area there are about 20 telephone poles then you are off the grid as they say at the end of the road but we have all the amenities to make your stay with us safe , enjoyable and memorable there is satellite tv wi fi internet vhf radio if the coast guard is needed a big base station at the house and in my boat it is QUIET except for those noisy bald eagles and a few cars there are about 40 homes in Mitchell bay and about 10 of them are summer residences a single paved one lane road that is rather unique when you meet another vehicle on the road so people tend to drive very slowly watch out for the deer there are a fair amount of them
  • Even better than expected : Dona and Frank took care of me as if I was family. I enjoyed every minute I spent with them and on Malcolm Island in general. Great boat trip with Frank, who is respectful of the wildlife. I can’t wait to come back...

  • Peace and quiet, fabulous view , wonderful hosts and great location. Couldn't ask for anything better. Hot tub, our own wood stove. It was the prefect spot for us to relax and kick back. Definitely recommended.

  • You could not find better hosts than Frank and Donna! They accomodated us on incredibly short notice (maybe 8 hours or so) and everything was great from the moment we got off the ferry. They were even generous enough to share a meal with us which included great conversation. They have found a good balance between friendly interaction and giving you your privacy. The view from the room and the hot tub was amazing. You could stay here at any time of the year and the scenery would be incredible. Highly recommend and will definitely be a return customer if we can get back up there.

    Dan2017-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Donna and Frank - thanks so much for making my first airbnb experience such a memorable one! You kindness, generosity and knowledge of the area made it a truly remarkable getaway and I'm looking forward to sorting thru all the great shots (fingers crossed) that I was able to take along the way. Whether you are into photography, hiking, being out on the water or just want a quiet getaway to read a book/reflect on life, I highly recommend checking out Malcolm Island and staying with Donna and Frank to experience the best of BC has to offer with two of the nicest people you could hope to find!

    Sharon2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Frank and Donna confirms why we love airbnb so much. The accommodation was top-shelf, and the special touches were so appreciated. You will love the comfortable bed, toasty wood fire stove, and the spacious bathroom. We left the curtains open most of our time there which allowed us to take in the expansive and majestic ocean view through the floor to ceiling windows - the vista will leave you in awe. Malcolm Island is a magical place, and if you allow yourself to be open to the "harmony" that exudes the landscape and the people, you will fall in love with this island. Watch for the goats in Sointula, sprawled out on the couch, in the front yard, watching television!

Peek-a-boo ocean views from the living room. You'll have the upper floor of this character home all to yourself. Clean space with bathroom, bedroom and living room (with futon). There is no kitchen, but we provide a kettle, toaster oven and dishes. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and families.
Coho Joe is in a historic building from the early 1900's. It's located above a restaurant/cafe, so to get your free breakfast you just need to walk down the stairs.
  • Perfekt little cozy “apartment” over a cafe. It’s right next to the ferry and it smells fantastic in the morning! The breakfast you get is awesome and the people around friendly as always! We can’t say anything negative! :)

    Leonie2018-07-14T00:00:00Z

  • This is a very sweet spot with a super comfy bed just across from the ferry landing. Our hosts fed us quite well each morning in their cute little cafe. Did not disappoint!

  • Ian's place was great. We really enjoyed our quiet getaway in Sointula. Lovely coffee shop below our place which was great for breakfast and coffee! Cozy and clean place! Ian was great, easy to talk to and available for any questions or supplies.

    Katie2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Coho Joe's is an authentic west coast experience with amazing coffee, muffins, of course there is gluten free option too, smoothies, bagels and more. The suite, accessed through a narrow, steep European style staircase, is spotlessly clean and has a simple heritage charm that makes it feel spacious and airy. Though the accommodations are up stairs, they stayed cool on warm summer days. We were easily able to manage our eating needs by filling the small fridge with simple supplies and eating in the cafe and at the Rav hotel Restaurant part of the time during our four day stay. Ian is helpful, considerate and quick to reply to any questions. Over all, this is a fun and great place to stay while exploring Malcolm Island. I would be thrilled to have a chance to stay again sometime.

    Terrill2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, an extraordinary airbnb experience! Due to the excellent café being downstairs the free breakfast and coffee is perfect! And furthermore Radka and Keegan, who are running the place at the moment, were really lovely and helped whenever we needed something. The cosy appartement is spacious for a couple and very quiet after the café has closed. We haven't heard the preparations in the morning because they were doing those really quiet. Of course when the cafe opens (at 7 at the moment) you hear the guests, but we became used to it quickly and could sleep in without any earbuds. Highly recommended!

  • Paul and Carmen are great communicators and were so patient and flexible with the ever-evolving work schedule that I was trying to coordinate. They were welcoming and gracious towards my 5 employees who stayed with them and their stay was very comfortable. They are excellent hosts and I would not hesitate to recommend them. My people were there to work and didn't take full advantage of the knowledge our hosts have about the area in terms opportunities to explore - I think that was our loss. Thanks again, Paul and Carmen!!

    Kristin2018-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Do not go to Nimpkish Forest if you want an impersonal service like a regular hotel room. Because impersonal is everything that Paul and Carmen are not! We felt almost like visiting family and we where treated as if it was our house. We rented the whole B&B for 6 nigths and that means that you have access to three bedrooms, a bathroom and a spacious living room with open kitchen on the first floor. Access to the first floor is via the kitchen of the owners. On the way up you will always meet the very cute house dog Avalanche. We where a bit worried because one of us is allergic to dogs, but the non-shedding dog was no problem. We especially advice people with kids to come here because Paul and Carmen are so nice with kids. The only problem is they might spoil them :) The owners know a lot about the area so we have seen a few spots that we would never have seen without them showing us (beautifull remote lake that we had all for ourselves, mountain logging road with spectaculair views). The B&B, the Whale watching tour and the Grizzly tour made our visit to the North of Vancouver Island a very special one. We would certainly come back here a next time.

    Ruud2014-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house with wonderful people, we felt instantly at home there. Had a nice chat with Paul and Carmen, played with their georgeous dogs.

    Marek2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Carmen and Paul's place has been a totally different experience compared to any other airbnb we have ever been. They are such a kind couple who went completely out of their ways to make our stay unforgettable. We are a large group and stayed in the flat above their place in very comfortable beds and creatively decorated space. The kitchen has more equipment than average airbnb including brand new coffee machine and sophisticated kettle. Upstairs there is one bathroom for 3 bedrooms but they also offer the use of another one downstairs. Laundry room is locked and there is a fee of 10 CAD per load of washing and drying. Since the very beginning, at booking process, we have been offered all sorts of advices about activities in the area and helped to book for a wildlife tour and fishing trip which were just perfect. Paul made sure we had all the right equipment for our trips and provided us any missing bits (boots, Thermos etc). He proudly thought our kids and all of us how to process the fish we caught: from cleaning, to making fillets and even how to put salmon into cans. An extremely long process !! We highly recommend staying at Carmen and Paul's airbnb and hope one day we will be able to come back again.

    Federica & Alessandra2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • we felt very welcome by Paul and Carmen and their lovely daughter. They also made our children very welcome and comfortable, which was important for us. We share very interesting conversations and felt part of the family, without encroaching on our privacy. I would recommend without hesitation to stay at the Nimpkish Forest B&B. It is also very clean and it is convenient to go both to Telegraph Cove and Port Mac Neil (by car). Paul and Carmen also gave us great advises on things to do during our short stay!

    Cathy2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Carmen and Paul for your fantastic hospitality!! Your warmth and thoughtfulness touched our hearts and made our stay extra special!! Thank you for making us feel so welcome in your wonderful home!!

  • Many thanks to Paul and Carmen. We had a great time in their spacious, comfortable and super clean apartment. It is very nearby Port McNeill for whale and orca watching and also close to Telegraph cove for ocean kayak tours. Paul and Carmen are very friendly and caring hosts.

    Tjeerd2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The appartment is a great place to stay for a family like ours. It is very well equipped and very clean and tidy and beautifully decorated. We could use the washing machine and dryer for 10$, which is ok. We even had a good time in the hot tub to warm up after a whalewatching tour!! Carmen enriched our breakfast with delicious home made banana bread, they had good advice and time for a chat. We felt very much at home and I would recommend this place to anyone who travels to the north of Vancouver Island.

Originally a church, Alert Bay Lodge lies on the south shore of Cormorant Island, two kilometers from the ferry terminal along the ocean road. The lodge features a large common room overlooking Johnson Strait. We include a hot breakfast with coffee or tea, Wifi, safe parking and great local knowledge.
This room features a queen sized bed. There is a personal vanity in the room as well as a full bathroom with a shower/soaker tub. The room features a mini fridge, hangers and a storage closet for belongings.
The village of Alert Bay features the U'Mista Cultural Centre, home to the famous Potlatch Collection, a hands on exhibit of First Nations culture at Culture Shock, the Big Tree Trail and the Big House, the centre of culture, ceremonial dancing and governance. The view from our deck is ever-changing: from small fishing vessels to cruise ships, eagles and cormorants, marine life, including the largest pod of orcas in the world.

  • We spent a wonderful night at Nina's. Her place is quite charming, especially the cosy common room which is equipped with all kinds of books, sofas, tables, a chess-board and whatnot – makes you want to spend the day there with a good read or just gazing out of the window at the sea right in front of it. The place has got a very special atmosphere and a great view, and the full breakfast is amazing and very welcome. Nina's place is situated at 2 kilometres walk from the ferry, so it's ok to get to even without a car. The bedrooms have somewhat thin walls, so if you're a light sleeper you might want to bring ear-plugs. The beds are soft and comfortable. The wash-basin in our room was situated outside the toilet, which was helpful. Nina was very nice and helpful and told us a lot about life on the island. Definitely recommended!

Acreage right on the ocean, NE Vancouver island. Beautiful upgraded mobile home. Sointula, Alert Bay minutes away via ferries. Port McNeill offers amazing fishing and boating. 40 minutes S is Telegraph Cove. Whale watching, history, fine dining. Martha is our amazing host, right next door. On Martha and Ray's property: canoeing, kayaking, bird and whale watching, cycling, crabbing! Negotiate directly with hosts. You'll never find better hosts. Make friends and memories for a lifetime!
Acres of green space, a creek to one side and the ocean to another. After you have done your own exploring, enjoy watching cruise ships, ferries and other watercraft sail past your view.
Port McNeill has many businesses including restaurants, grocery stores, a fishing/hunting store, boating store, dollar and hardware stores, hospital and RCMP. It's a very short drive from the acreage. Catch all the fish you can? There's a cannery 45 minutes north in Port Hardy. And there's a 3-hole golf course at the end of our road!
  • magnificient Location, calm, this Location exceeded our expectations, the peaceful settings, and most of all the kind hospitality of Martha and Ray.

  • The place was in a good location but not in town if that is what you are looking for. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you can imagine. Lorrene is a nice host and always happy to help out. We went on 2 whale tours, one in Telegraph Cove and 1 in Port McNeil with McKay Whale watching. Stubbs Island Whale Watching in TC was good, the crew was super friendly, on a big boat with many guests. We preferred McKay's Tour as it was a smaller boat with fewer guests and the crew was super friendly as well. We had an amazing time and even made it out to visit Sointula, which was worth it.

My place is close to the ecological park, hiking trails and only a few minutes walk to the shops and waterfront. Its has a wonderful southern exposure with lots of light and water views. You’ll love my place because its quiet, centrally located and easy to explore the entire island from. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
  • Nice place, easy to find. Sue was a great host getting us settled and checking in with us. Would stay again for sure.

  • Very welcoming host. Lovely accommodation. Alert Bay was very good for our Seasmoke whale watching trip. A very special time there!

  • This is a really great place to stay. The view from balcony and jacuzzi is fantastic and the place is bigger than expected. Alert Bay is a gem.

  • Beautiful view from a beautiful place and a hot tub to watch the stars at night!! Magical!!

    Dan2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The place is exactly as advertised, the view is stunning, and the hot tub is a lovely perk! Although I didn’t meet Agate, she was quick to respond to any queries I had. All in all a lovely stay. The kitchen facilities are only a microwave and a toaster oven- but (Hidden by Airbnb) was very helpful in providing ideas for breakfasts, dinners and desserts in the toaster oven :) would 100% recommend a stay here!

    Rebecca2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • More than 5 stars! The Sea Glass cabin is gorgeous! So stylish! And there is nothing more luxurious than relaxing in the hot tub at sunset.

  • The Orca Inn is the right price. Extremely comfortable bed with an amazing view of the Bay. Larry is super friendly and hospitable. The place could use a few updates, but overall our stay was a great experience.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️ My stars weren’t very high because we didn’t stay in the Orca Inn. Because of high volume booking for the past weekend 60th Annual June Sports Festival. Larry opened up his own place and offered a suite off his garage. It’s isolated and nice and quiet. We really appreciate what Larry did to accommodate my family. Next year we’ll need to book earlier to stay at the Orca Inn.. Thank you Larry ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stay and enjoy whale watching and bear watching trips which depart from right here!
Alert Bay is a great place to visit. Whale watching, bear watching and cultural trips leave from right here. There is no need to go to Pt McNeil or Telegraph Cove. Sea Wolf Adventures has daily trips departing from Alert Bay ( (Website hidden by Airbnb) Our charming village is very walkable with several restaurants and galleries. The First Nations cultural center U'Mista is a must see. The Big House regularly hosts visitors for First Nation songs and dances. We have excellent hiking trails too! Plan on spending several days here.
  • Simple room but clean and all basics there, with huge breakfast in the morning. Everyone really friendly.

Originally constructed as a church, the Alert Bay Lodge features a large common area and is a stone's throw away from Johnstone Strait, home to 200 orca whales. Your hosts will cook you a hot breakfast in the morning (included in your rate) and the surrounding area features breathtaking views, hiking, fishing spots, a cultural center and a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the main island.
The village of Alert Bay features the U'Mista Cultural Centre, a hands on exhibit of First Nations culture at Culture Shock and several local attractions unique to Cormorant Island. Johnstone Strait sees boats from small fishing vessels to cruise ships come through and marine life, including the largest pod of orca whales in the world, can be spotted from our deck.
  • Joel and Estelle provide great service and are willing to go the extra mile to accommodate you. Alert Bay Lodge is clean, has a comfortable shared living and dining area with views over the water, but the standard of the bedroom was disappointing with the furniture and furnishings showing signs of aging and disrepair (squeaky bed, cracked windows, etc. )

    Sylvie2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Lodge is quite funky, with unobstructed views of the water. Great opportunities for whale watching from the deck! We really enjoyed J&E's hospitality. The food was great (try out dinner!). We hope to do a repeat visit for longer next time!

    Jill2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a lovely place! It was in a great location right on the water. You could watch the whales right from the deck if you waited long enough. 10 minute walk from restaurants and stores. This would be such a cozy and lovely place to curl up in front of the wood stove in the common room in the fall when it's cold and rainy. We really enjoyed our stay. Joel and Estelle were fantastic hosts. They made us feel very comfortable and made the place really special. Thank you for the stay. Erin and Josh.

About Sointula, Malcolm Island: Sointula, Finnish for "Sound of harmony". Malcolm island was owned by Finnish settlers that founded a utopian society. • The bus was super cozy and felt like home.

    Rebecca2018-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Camping without the hassle. Just drive up, unpack the basics, and enjoy the quiet. If it rains, you are inside by the wood burning stove with a hot cup of tea! The ocean is a 5 minute drive away.

    Celine2018-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the sointula bus! It was super secluded and felt like a glamping experience. Be prepared for a rocky dirt road, bugs and a whole lot of nature with this spot. We felt like we had the whole island to ourselves! It's only like 10 minutes from downtown sointula so it's a great jumping off spot for exploring the island and then going home to privacy. It's so convenient to have the solar electrical outlets for phones, speakers and laptops although we had almost no reception out there (which was awesome)!!!!

    Sabrina2017-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • First things first, you have to be realistic about what you're getting - you're not paying for The Ritz, you're not getting The Ritz, and I'm not reviewing The Ritz. So that said, The Sointula Bus is a great option for the budget conscious, or anyone looking for a truly unique experience. It's not luxurious but the hosts have put a lot of thought into supplying everything you need for your stay, including maps and brochures of the area. The bed is large and *very* comfortable - we slept better there than we did during most of the rest of our trip. The one difficulty we had was with the outhouse - it's quite a large step up (and down, when exiting) and it was a little difficult for my 75-year old mom and for my own bad knees. My own family used to holiday in a camperized school bus, back in the '70s and early '80s, so if I had any suggestion for the hosts it would be to add a couple of retro board games for playing in the evening. You can always find them cheap at thrift stores and I think they'd add a nice touch.

    Leslie2017-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The bus was an awesome place for my partner, labradoodle and I to stay for a few nights! Definitely a huge step up from our regular tenting, and very comfortable. The wood stove heated the bus toasty warm, and we were impressed with all the wood they provided us. The bed was super comfy too. Definitely had all we needed and more for a relaxing "glamping" getaway. I would strongly recommend the bus if you are looking for a unique outdoor experience!

    Jillian2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a wicked few days !!! Albeit a touch drafty, but if you're a fan of getting yourself a decent fire and cuddling with a blanket, with a book and a cuppa, then this is the space for you. Incredibly private, with access to the town. Would definitely stay again if i'm in the area - definitely x

  • We had a great time with Paul and Carmen. They are great hosts and very welcoming. They had a lot of tips for us regarding what to do and where to eat. Thanks to these tips we did see orcas, which was one of the highlights on our trip. The place itself is clean and quite large. There isn't really anything to complain about. I'd recommend anyone to stay here, you won't regret it

  • This b&b is my best experience I have ever had through Airbnb. The house and room is very nice and the hot tab amazing. But the best of all were our host. I had never such a personal welcoming host, who felt like friends in the end. In the beginning we just booked one night. 2 hours after our arrival we booked a second night, which shows the best, that we really liked it.

    Konstantin2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Carmen was an excellent host and made us feel right at home!

  • Lovely place with delicious breakfast. Check-in was very smooth and easy. Place has a great view from the kitchen and livingroom, just amazing! This B&B will make you forget your hectic life and let you relax. Carmen made us feel at home from the very start. She had so many tips about things to do on the northern island.

    Marlies2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding is how I would describe my experience at Paul & Carmen's. Great communication pre and during my stay, clean, pics as described (actually better), room is a good size with a comfy bed, and only 30 min away from the Prince Rupert ferry. Oh and the breakfast Carmen put together with tonnes of fruits (a number from the garden was wonderful). Highly recommended!!

  • My husband and I stayed at Paul and Carmen's place for a night before our 4 day kayak trip with North Island Kayak. We didn't have any trouble finding their place thro' (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps. Carmen was very communicative and gave useful tips even prior to our arrival. The place was clean, exactly as shown in pictures. We had booked one room and it was perfect for two people. The shared kitchen, dining and living area was huge. WiFi was good. Kitchen had good choice of teas and Keurig coffee. The bed was comfortable. Paul and Carmen were always available and kept checking if we needed anything. The next morning, since we had to be at Telegraph Cove at 8:30am, they had the breakfast ready for us by 7. The breakfast was simple and good - fresh fruits, homemade granola, yoghurt, juice, pastry, coffee and tea. We had a wonderful conversation during breakfast and Paul and Carmen were enthusiastic to share their experiences and knowledge about the area. I highly recommend their place and if I'm back in the area I'll gladly stay there again.

Enjoy my 4000 square foot custom built newer home on the waterfront. Master bedroom on entry level with a king size bed with water view and ocean sounds. Entry level with large family room with views and oversize kitchen, laundry room, half bath and office/bedroom with twin beds and large deck. Downstairs has a large has a large TV/family room with pool table and two separate bedrooms (queen size beds) and one private full bathroom.
Very private with a small town with full size grocery store and a few restaurants. outdoor stores, coffee shops, beautiful pier, orca viewing trips, salmon fishing trips, etc.
  • Beautiful large home in an interesting part of Vancouver Island and a good launch point for a trip to San Josef. Photos don't do the internals justice. Very comfortable sitting room, 2 bedrooms and dining table overlook the water with spectacular views. The semi basement includes a pool table and huge flatscreen tv. Ideal if you want to separate the ages or activities. If internet is important to you please note that none is provided. I overlooked this when booking and found the omission irritating when some of our very rural budget hosts have gone to huge trouble to provide a connection. The fixtures and finish is to a high standard and all the usual appliances are included, but the layout is unusual. Best to ask for a floor plan if adjacent bathroom access is important for all bedrooms.

    Robin2016-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • This property is a delight. Listening and watching gently lapping ocean, observing orca from the deck and feeling secluded is second to none. The house is well appointed, the beds very comfortable with excellent bedding, and the living room more comfortable than my own. There’s no better place to stay on the North Island, a place of secret beauty on its own. For those thinking of the west coast of the island, why not skip the crowds and enhance the beauty by coming here.

    Adam2018-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful home with an amazing view and easy access to amenities such as groceries and activities like whale watching. The hot tub and pool table were nice bonuses.

  • This place was AMAZING. Our arrival and departure were both very easy. Nancy and her caretaker Bill were both very welcoming and extremely helpful. The house is beautiful. The photos don't even do it justice!! Port McNeill is a small town perfect if you are wanting to escape the city and just relax for a little while. We are definitely wanting to return! You will not be disappointed by this wonderful home.

    Madison2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This wonderful home is exactly as described, or better. We wanted a place with four bedrooms for our fishing trip and we each had a very comfortable bed to sleep in. The home is very well equipped with everything you need. We didn't do any cooking but it was well set up for that. Nice wood burning fireplace, pool table and hot tub. Beautiful view of the ocean and wildlife. Town is a short drive that has several very nice restaurants. Overall - highly recommended

    Clayton2017-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy was the best host from the beginning. She accommodated our schedule and sent us information about the area and her place right at the beginning. She gave us updates on the whale watching in the area, which was amazing by the way, and she got us even more excited for the trip. This house is even more amazing than Nancy. It is a dream house. I come from NYC and I am a bit of a snob about accommodations and this place is as good as it gets. We wanted an experience in the wilderness so we booked a kayaking trip and a bear trip but this house, as our home base, was pure luxury in the wilderness in between our trips. The views are amazing!! I will stay here again for sure!

This room features an ocean view, two queen sized beds, a mini-fridge and lots of elbow room. Outside is a private deck.
  • Joel and Estelle were fantastic hosts. The Lodge is beautiful and set up perfectly to feel as though you are visiting a friend's cabin. My daughter and I were only here for one night, but enjoyed everything about our stay.

  • We really loved staying at Nina's place. We have been in room #4 which had its own Deck with a hammock, a table and a swinging chair. Beautiful! We had lots of good talks in the common room with Nina and the other guests. It's a great place to be.

  • Alert Bay Lodge is a cozy retreat away from the bustle and grind of city life. We never leave town without our dog, Hunter and we were happy to find a place that all of us could enjoy comfortably. Upon arrival, we were greated with Paleo-friendly, homemade treats and biscuits for our dog. The private deck was one of our favourite features of the property. We especially appreciated Joel and Estelle accommodating our dietary needs (Paleo) without making us feel like an inconvenience. We look forward to visiting again.
