“Amazement Square is an exceptional, award-winning hands-on "science/fun place" for kids that's so well done that it's a joy for adults too. From the active arts and music areas to the "amazing" science displays, no one will get bored because nothing is designed to just be looked at or watched; it's engaging and wonderful. Lynchburg is blessed to have such a place; if you have kids, this is a Go-To place!”

“One of our favorite local pizza restaurants located on historic Rivermont. ”

“Not sure if it is still on the menu, but if not I do believe one can still special order it. It's the Blackened Chicken Alfredo pizza. It's made with Alfredo sauce, chicken, diced tomatoes, and spinach. Definitely worth the trip!”

“Burgers: 4-Star; $$. Bootleggers an upscale garage-style place with an excellent location overlooking The James River and on The Boardwalk. The bar area hops on Friday and Saturday nights until close (11 p.m.) and it's easy to move around. If the weather's nice, the outside patio area makes it that much better.”

“Favorite breakfast joint in town! Make sure to get there early on the weekend, they fill up fast for breakfast and lunch. ”

“It is open Saturday mornings at 7am - 11am. They have food, drinks, and goodies you may only see here!”

“If you're a taco lover, you'll love this restaurant. Located in the heart of downtown, Lynchburg. The patio seating is an added bonus in the warmer months! ”

History Museum
“Point of Honor is more or less The Tourist Destination in Lynchburg with organized tours daily and an impressive history. The property and "restored" (not "renovated", but kept in its original grandeur). I'll not blah, blah, blah, but the "Honor" of this point goes back to dueling and the grounds are gorgeous. And...Very Close to Downtown (across the Rivermont bridge).”

“If you walk the Chessie Trail, stop and grab a beer and some food on your way back north.”

“American: 4-Star; $$. Admit that The Depot Grille isn't a place that I go to hang at the bar, but that's me, not the general local bar crew. The Depot Grille's bar is known as The Place to go on Fridays after work; young professionals overfill the bar area and it's a lively scene.”

Café

“Coffee Shop / Café; 3-Star; $$. This is more of a grungy college hang-out than a place that I’d recommend for The City’s visitors, but my teenage daughter loves the chai and oft goes there to do her homework. The food is so-so, but the coffee’s high-quality and consistent.”

Bar
“American: 4-Star; $$$. Shoemakers is upscale and formal; a romantic place to sit at the bar with a date or a spouse and enjoy mingling among an older crowd (not necessarily "old", but this is not a place for college kids). Highly Recommended.”

“If you like upscale Italian, this is the place to go! Within walking distance for a perfect evening.”

“Seafood: 5-Star; $$$. This is my wife Elizabeth's favorite place to simply hang; when we go there, it's usually to watch a sporting event (e.g. March Madness, Football Playoffs, UVa vs. Virginia Tech, etc.). The Water Dog is casual/grunge with concrete floors and no frills, but it truly packs in the college crowds on Friday and Saturday nights.”
