There is also a store nearby to buy food, and we went to buy fresh vegetables every day. The road to the store is about a 10 minute walk with a beautiful view. We sincerely recommend staying at Ian's home!

Staying in the Cheese loft was great, nice size for me, lovely and warm on a cold and very wet week. The facilities were excellent, everything you need in the kitchen was there. The bed was really comfortable, huge soft towels and very peaceful and quiet.

Seashell Cottage is one of two four star self-catering cottages located in the beautiful 200 year-old conservation village of Ellenabeich just half an hour south of Oban. A perfect place to stay with most of what this area has to offer on your doorstep. The Oyster Bar/Restaurant less than a minutes walk away. The Puffer Bar and Restaurant/Tea Room on Easdale Island only a short two minute ferry ride away. Sea-fari boat trips leave from the harbour, the local slate beach and hill walks all walkable from the cottage. The village is the perfect place to enjoy the sunsets in the evenings. Ellenabeich is reached by crossing the famous 'Bridge over the Atlantic' to the Isle of Seil in Argyll, in the West Highlands of Scotland. These two beautifully appointed semi-detached properties come equipped with linen and towels and luxury toiletries for your stay and include electricity plus one bucket of coal for the fire. Additional fuel is available.
Rockpool and Seashell Cottages are located in a beautiful west coast fishing village in Argyll, south of Oban and offer easy access to the main tourist hotspots whilst offering a wonderful, peaceful base for your holiday. The conservation village of Ellenabeich, with its whitewashed cottages was built to house workers at the local slate quarries, but the industry collapsed in 1881 when the sea broke into the main quarry pit – the flooded pit can still be seen. To the north the scenic landscapes of Lochaber and the Outdoor Capital of the UK including Glencoe are within easy reach. To the south the historic highlights of Kilmartin Glen and the Crinan Canal whilst inland there are the joys of Inveraray with its magnificent castle and visitor attraction Jail together with interesting shops offer a great day out. Oban is the main hub and ferry port is also the gateway to the isles of Mull, Iona, Lismore and Kerrera to mention just a few. The local area offers many outdoor activity opportunities including wildlife spotting, boat trips, scuba diving, kayaking, horse-riding and scuba diving for the energetic! More relaxing pursuits of exploring the rich heritage of the local area can also be enjoyed. Castles, gardens, beaches, woodlands and wonderful walks and gently hikes are within easy reach as is fishing and gold. So, plenty to enjoy and while away your days.

  • My husband and I plus our two dogs stayed at Seashell Cottage for 4 nights for our honeymoon. We could not have chosen a better place to stay. Annabel was an incredibly attentive and kind host, and her property was absolutely stunning. Very well appointed, we had absolutely everything we needed, as well as a lovely bottle of prosecco! I'm a bit if a clean bathroom fan, and the bathroom at the cottage was immaculate. The bed was super comfy. The welcome book had a wealth of useful local knowledge, and Annabel herself gave us many helpful tips. The area around the cottage is outstandingly beautiful and great fun to explore. We look forward to coming back with our bikes to do some more exploring soon! Thank you Annabel.

  • The house is very stylish and has been finished to a high standard with a great layout. The view is spectacular from the kitchen and living room and as the light changes through the day you can spend a lot of time just looking out to sea! We arrived to a cosy space with thoughtful touches and Lee and Kirsty were great at keeping in touch to ensure our stay went well! The island has a circular walk which our wee dug enjoyed a lot, even in Storm Dennis. The islanders we met were so helpful and friendly too. Thanks so much!

Relax on the private decking in the sun overlooking the stunning views or take a stroll around the shoreline of this beautiful Island at dusk. A brilliant place to relax and really be at peace with your surroundings.

The attached tearoom/restaurant is open during the summer months and serves award-winning, locally caught seafood. • Easdale was the most perfect idyllic island to spend the half term with my son. My heart was captured by the island and sold by this beautiful fully equipped cottage with views that I will never forget. Will be back if we can!

  • Everything was absolutely perfect! The house is lovely, amazingly confortable and functionnal, to be honnest I would even say that the pictures undersell it. Easdale is amazing, the people who live there are incredibly kind, caring and helpful. Alan (neighbour, ferry man) even dropped oisters in front of our porch the last night after we met him at the pub... I'm looking forward to coming back and I hope it will be in the same house.

  • Argyll is a great area to explore. Along all those narrow roads. Beautiful scenery, rich history with castles etc. Search and you will find. The School Room is perfect as a base. We really liked the place; the "room" is done with a gentle touch. It was as described, and that is very good. It was quiet there - as we hoped for. We would like to come back.

  • A fantastic place to stay and excellent hosts. We had a brilliant weeks getaway here. The location was perfect for a relaxing stay, with many local attractions on the doorstep. The place was well equipped, spotlessly clean and regardless of the inclement weather gave us plenty to do and see. I would highly recommend stopping here.

  • It Is very hard to start a review about this beautiful spot. So many things to mention. I'll start with the hosts Alasdair and Sheena. Such a lovely people. Very nice and helpfull. Privacy very much respected but They were close enough if we needed them. Made us and our dog Toto feel at home. House was spotless. So clean that we couldn't fault anything. Located in walking distance between two lochs was so quiet we could only hear birds. Perfect Location. A lot of things to see and visit in a radius of just a few miles. Us a family of five wanting to go away from city noise and chaos it was ideal, and we came back home all very relaxed and rested. We hope to come back to Gartnagrenach again and it is defenitely worth recommending.

    Marcin2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Gartnagrenach Cottage was really perfect! The cottage has everything inside and outside what is needed and we had perfect hosts. The surroundings with beaver trail, crinan trail and the crinan channel is wonderful! It is worth to stay there.

  • The accommodation was great with everything you could need even two TVs so my son could play his play station whilst I watched tv and my wife read in the porch (we do get on really). The scenery was fantastic and we hope to stay again. Alisdair and Sheena were great hosts

    Ian2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Alasdair's place is perfect. Great location ( beaver trail in walking distance), plenty of cycle trails, beautiful lochs , highly equipped home from home, thoughtful touches , and warm welcome. We look forward to staying again soon .

    Feleena2019-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Gartnagrenach far exceeded our expectations for our New Year Trip. Alasdair and Sheena are wonderful hosts and have an immaculate cottage with everything you could ever need and more. A perfect home from home! It is in a perfect location for walks, cycling and wildlife, including the local pine martens, deer and beaver. In fact the beaver lochs are only a short walk from the front door! Alasdair had prepared a selection of local walks and maps which we found really useful for our walks and bike rides. Our little dog was very welcome and was even provided with a bed, dog bowls and treats! Although we were out most of the time there was still plenty to do when we got back, including Sky TV, many games and even a playstation. There is also a large lockable storage space for outdoor gear which was really useful for keeping our muddy boots and bikes in. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better cottage in such a beautiful part of Scotland. We will be back again!

  • Beautiful island, friendly people, lovely open space, lots of conveniences in the house, the bath is huge, the hot tub and it’s views are amazing The beach is close, we spotted dolphins swimming every day we were there! The shop a short bike/walk away and the pubs not too far away although we did drive it. Stunning scenery, quirky place to be. Easy check in and responsive host leading up to and during our stay!

  • Fantastic little gem, if you are looking for sleek & modern interior then this is not the place for you but if you like stepping back in time to Art Deco then book this place, very comfortable, very clean, warm and has everything you need for a relaxing stay, the hot tub is a super addition, I can’t comment on the sauna as it didn’t seem to be available for use, great communication with Bill , nothing was a bother .

  • Bill was so easy to deal with and his place is very clean and in a great location.

  • A wonderful stay in a lovely property. We stayed for 3 days in February. Arrived to a sparkling clean and warm apartment and had a really relaxing time. We stayed through a big storm and stayed cosy and comfortable throughout. The views are sublime especially from the hot tub (on one occasion in a hail shower!). We enjoyed the local walks in between the wind and rain storms. Would definitely return.

    Piers2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and tidy property exactly as advertised, great location, hot tub a lovely extra

    Louise2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with fantastic views! Whole house was very clean and had an enjoyable stay.

    Iain2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly unique property, don't pass it by! Amazing furniture and interior decorations topped off by an incredible location. The night we had a campfire and were able to see the milky way will stay with us forever. More than enough room for a party of 8 with a great hot tub and sauna, plus lovely kitchens and bedrooms. The garden is a great space to relax in and look out over the landscape and it's a very short drive to the coast and the ferry over to Easdale. Highly recommended if you're looking for a truly unique place to stay.

    OBAN, United Kingdom

Simple, lovely and comfortable rebuilt traditional mining cottage just a stone throw off the ferry, and 20m to the Puffer Bar & Restaurant. Enjoy the unique serenity this car-free island has to offer, amidst the Scottish west coast's wild beauty.
Seol-Mara laid in ruins for years like many cottages on the island, and was rebuilt by the former owner in the 1980s, and is now a self-catering holiday cottage. The cottage has a double bedroom, loft space with double mattress, large living room with space for 2 folding beds. A kitchenette with fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, tea & coffee, all the utensils and cutlery you will need and washing machine. The bathroom includes a bath and shower. All bed linen and towels are included. Mobile phone signal on the island is inconsistent, with the best place on the island for signal being near the phone box at the ferry shed. There is also Wi-Fi in the cottage free of charge, although be prepared for slower internet speeds than you may be used to!
The island is currently home to around 65 permanent residents and has undergone some drastic industrial changes in its history. Easdale is one of the four "Slate Islands" in the area that were mined for hundreds of years up until the First World War. These are known as the "islands that roofed the world". However a huge storm hit the area in November 1881, which filled all the quarries with sea water, and in turn wiped out over 300 families' livelihoods. As little as 4 people were left on Easdale during the mid 20th century, but a strong resurgence in recent years now boasts a thriving and welcoming community. The islands' fascinating history is available to read into with much greater detail in Easdale's Folk Museum (open April - October), a must visit for any keen historian. The award winning Puffer Bar & Restaurant is open all year round selling locally brewed beer and superb seafood freshly caught from local fisherman. It's just 2 doors down from the cottage as well! If you fancy doing a unique pub crawl of sorts it is possible, the Oyster Brewery is just on the mainland side off the ferry, and the Tigh an Truish is further down the road at the Bridge Over The Atlantic. The whole area boasts beautiful walks, and the island itself can be walked around leisurely in 30 mins, but can take many more hours to explore in its entirety. Climb the hill to discover fantastic views and point out the surrounding islands. Visit the swimming quarry for a fresh swim or jump in off the cliffs for those adrenaline-seeking types. Practice your stone skimming with perfect slate stones, the island is home to the famous World Stone Skimming Championships in September every year. An ideal place to just get away from it all... Wildlife is a big tourism factor to the area, porpoise and dolphins are occasionally spotted through the ferry channel and off the island. Local boat tours in the area like SeaFari Adventures actually take you down to see the infamous Corryvreckan Whirlpool (3rd largest worldwide), seals, eagles, cetaceans and many others. Easdale is a perfect stopping point on a tour of the Scottish West Coast. Access to the North West is easy by road, and in Oban you can hop on a CalMac ferry to get to the Outer Hebrides and other islands.
  • Spotlessly clean. Really lovely accommodation on a picturesque island. Lots to do and see and comfortable bed with everything you need. Cosy and warm with so many nice arty touches on the walls. Simple and traditional and everything you need. Ghalia was so friendly and welcoming and on hand if we needed anything. Stepping out of the front door straight onto grass as Easdale is a car free island was fun. Reasonably priced and highly recommended.

  • Beautiful wee cottage in idyllic surroundings

    Chris2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ghalia’s place was ideal for our family of 5 adult-sized people! The beds were comfortable, the shower was hot and powerful, the kitchen was amply equipped and Ghalia made us feel very welcome - even although we arrived in a downpour, she came from her own house to see us in. The cottage was warm and spotlessly clean. A lovely cottage on a beautiful island - thank you!

  • Quaint cottage on Easdale island. All the basic amenities you need - perfect if you’re looking for a unique experience on the island. Fab dinner in the Oyster Bar, and would also recommend Sea-Fari but be prepared to get wet.

  • We have stayed at Ghalia's three times now and every stay has been wonderful. Ghalia's cottage is the perfect base for exploring Easdale, is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Ghalia herself is extremely hospitable and will make sure you have everything you need for a good stay. Easdale is a beautiful island and the perfect place to relax.

  • We have spent two nights at Don and Julie’s place and we are pleased we’ve picked their home! Most of all, there is no many places which are child friendly and theirs definitely is! We had all the arrangements made with Don and Julie upon arrival and it was all as expected, great communication and reassurance when I had questions. We all enjoyed our break away from home, thank you for having us!

    Gosia2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Don and Julie are extraordinary hosts and we fully enjoyed every minute of our stay there! From leaving the door open as we just missed them upon arrival, to letting us use the whole kitchen, offering wine, cake and free apples from their garden, and generally being super friendly and enjoyable to talk to, we really enjoyed our stay from the first to the last minute. Needless to say, they always answered messages immediately, were flexible about check-in and check-out and the place had everything we could have needed. All we wish now is that we had had more time and better weather to explore more of the surroundings based on all the tips we got. All in all, we can really recommend staying with Don!

Rockpool Cottage is one of two four star self-catering cottages located in the beautiful 200 year-old conservation village of Ellenabeich just half an hour south of Oban.
The cottages are set in a beautiful west coast fishing village in Argyll, south of Oban and offer easy access to the main tourist hotspots whilst offering a wonderful, peaceful base for your holiday. The conservation village of Ellenabeich, with its whitewashed cottages was built to house workers at the local slate quarries, but the industry collapsed in 1881 when the sea broke into the main quarry pit – the flooded pit can still be seen. The Scottish Slate Islands Heritage Trust displays fascinating old photographs illustrating life in the village in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The local area also offers many outdoor activity opportunities including wildlife spotting, boat trips, scuba diving, kayaking, horse-riding and scuba diving for the energetic! More relaxing pursuits of exploring the rich heritage of the local area can also be enjoyed. Castles, gardens, beaches, woodlands and wonderful walks and gently hikes are within easy reach as is fishing and gold. So, plenty to enjoy and while away your days.

  • We had a lovely few days staying at Annabel’s cottage on the Isle of Seil. We felt right at home - the cottage had everything we could wish for a cosy getaway and Annabel was so friendly and helpful with recommendations for exploring the surrounding area. We’d love to return after the baby arrives! X

  • Beautiful house in a stunning setting. Immaculate furnishings but retaining very homely and cosy feel. Great to have a lounge to relax in with log fire alongside breakfast area. Excellent breakfast and Willa and family are a delight. We stayed at particularly busy time on this working farm but this did not detract them from making us feel at home.
