  • As I’m in love with nature, Fatma's house was the best place I’ve stayed in during my Egyptian journey. I’ve stayed there 4 nights. It is located in a very charming village on the Elephantine Island. A peaceful place far from the busy, dusty and sometimes chaotic city centre. At the same time, it's very easy to reach by ferry or taxi boat, and it costs nothing to cross the Nile, not even one cent for the ferry, and less than a dollar for the taxi. The house was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. It’s on the third floor and its large balcony gives you a fantastic panorama on the fields surrounded by mango and date trees. There’s a very interesting exhibitions on the ground floor, where you can learn about of the Nubian culture. You’ll love it. Fatma and her husband speak a very fluent English and are always ready to help. You must taste the home made food that Fatma prepares. It’s absolutely delicious. Two little recommendations: if you’ve got a heavy luggage, ask Fatma to hire somebody to carry it for you, as castors luggage cannot roll on the village soil. And don’t forget anti mosquitos sprays.

  • Nice and quiet location, very friendly host… The experience was great…

  • The house is beautiful, everything works well, Asma and Mohamed received us like if we were from the family. We also had diner at the house and it was one of the most delicious meals we have ever had. Thank you.

  • I spent 3 days with my family in Fatma's appartement. It is located in a Nubian village on the Elephantine Island, which is very easily accessible from Aswan. The appartement in itself is simple but calm and pleasant, on the last floor of Fatma's family house. From the windows and the balcony, it offers a very nice view on the surrondings. Everything was perfectly clean, and we have been provided with all the necessary (towels, sheets,...). The Fatma's mother provided us with a very delicious and copious breakfast in the mornings, and you have also the possibility to have lunch or dinner. Fatma's father, who is an official tour guide, proposes a visit of the little musueum he set up, on the ground floor of the house, which offers a very good insight on the traditionnal daily life on Nubian people, and also a visit around the island. I definitely recommand this place. The Elephantine Island is a treasure of calm and peacefulness, Fatma's family were kind to us, ready to provide any help, and the flat was in itself very nice. No negative sight, it is really a must

  • Fatma's family was a great host. The food, tour and hospitality was on point. I recommend anyone that visits Aswan.

  • Fatma and her family were very nice. The breakfast was delicious and we loved hanging out on the balcony. The place was clean and comfortable and well taken care of. We will certainly be back if we're in Aswan and will recommend friends there any day.

Elephantine Island is the largest of the Aswan area islands, and is one of the most ancient sites in Egypt, with artifacts dating to predynastic periods. This is probably due to its location at the first Cataract of the Nile, which provided a natural boundary between Egypt and Nubia. As an island, it was also easily defensible. In fact, the ancient town located in the southern part of the island was also a fortress through much of it's history. At one time, there was a bridge from the mainland to the island.
The space are close to the nile , 3 min to go to the center of Aswan. The island is quite and beautiful, nature, People are so friendly, it's like Nubian village life.
  • He is really generous and kind. You will meet the best host. I'm sure.

  • I loved this place! Ehab and Shnoda's attentiveness made me enjoy my stay so much. I always felt safe and well looked after. Ehab knew a lot about what to do and how much things would cost. I thought that I would be bothered by travel between the island and the mainland of Aswan, but I actually preferred it this way. It was a little hideaway that made me feel very relaxed and getting a ferry was never an issue. I didn't have time to plan before I came, but Ehab helped me figure everything out! I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

    Jay2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely good people. I fell in love with the island and Elephantine. Away from the crowd in Aswan it's the best way to expend a relaxed time in the area. Hamada is a very nice guy. Despite the language barrier he make me feel comfortable and take care of me. Ehab, Hamada and Totti and the guard of the house take care of me the time I expend. I hope to come back soon and taste again the Nubian food from the restaurant in Elephantine (excellent). The room it's very nice. The time I was there -July- was no aircon yet but they will install it.

  • Mango Guest house was a really good place to start my vacation in Egypt. It's located in a Nubian village on the Elephantine island in the middle of Nile in Aswan, so you need a quick ferry ride (literally 2-3 min ride) to go back and forth to the mainland but it was never an issue. Ferry was only 2 EGP each way. The room and bathroom are very clean. Ehab was extremely helpful from the moment I initiated the booking and until I left Egypt, not just his accommodation. My flight arrived super late in Aswan and he was kind to coordinate taxi and ferry ride to the guest house, where he was there to welcome me late at night. He arranged a spot for me in a group tour to Abu Simbel at a fairly reasonable price. Everyone is usually there to rip tourists and make extra bucks, but Ehab arranged tours and taxis at a fairly reasonable price. He also arranged my taxi to Luxor with stops to 3 temples along the way. If you prefer to take train versus Taxi, he was willing to help with that too. He arranged a nice meal at a local Nubian restaurant on the island, Ashry Toke which was a very good meal too. All in all, it was a great experience. If you don't mind living in a village, the guest house is a nice little gem and oasis in the village and Ehab is a great host. P.s.: there is no air conditioner in the room so if it's super hot, you just have to make do with fan. I thought that was also an experience in itself.

    Saurin2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very good stay. Quite, clean and close to ferry. The host also helped me get a train ticket to Luxor. From the ferry station in Aswan, it's also very easy to go to the train station by minibus - 5 minutes and just 1 pound. All in all, I'm quite happy about everything here. Highly recommended!

    jay2017-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay. Elephantine island was away from busy city. Nice to relax in the garden here. Thanks for having me!

    Jasmin2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ehab was immediately welcoming and friendly. He offered to look into tours, arranged pick-up from the station and sent the caretaker to meet me. He was welcoming and accommodating. This place is spotless and new. Keep in mind there is no AC if you absolutely need it. Otherwise ceiling fans and cool night breezes. The caretaker Shenouda is wonderful. Minds his own business, but super helpful and kind. Ehab creates a chill atmosphere and was very eager to help arrange trips and outings and share his village. Things like iftar with the host, walk to Nubian craft center and just being on the island make it special. Do your own research on trips but you will find he can connect you with several locals at decent prices and tell you what to expect. Overall very helpful, accommodating, and very clean guesthouse.

  • The place and the host is great. The village is incredibly quiet and wonderful compared to the noise and congestion across the river in Aswan. Only problem is ferry crossing does not begin till 7am. I am an early riser and that was a problem.

A GREAT LOVELY HOTEL ON THE RIVER NILE! IMPORTANT .. ASK ME FOR THE LOCATION BECAUSE AIRBNB MAP IS NOT VERY SPECIFIC.. The swimming pool will be available in mid-November The address is Najaa elmahata city .. Nubain ctaract hotel Delicious breakfast for just 4$ extra Quiet and delightful place. On the other side of Suhail Islandand Famine Stela "king Djoser record's" Ten minutes from the heart of the city, main street and Nubia Museum.
  • Awesome experience. Ahmed is awesome and immediately available for setting up whatever you need. The hotel itself is beautiful and well-equipped, staff on hand to help with all your needs. Rooms are very comfortable. You aren't walking distance to anything -- will need to arrange a car anytime you want to explore, but it's very easy to set up. Highly recommend for a quiet and beautiful stay.

  • The place itself is really great for the panoramic view. I was the only guest at the hotel and the old man taking care of the service while I was there gave his best effort to make me satisfied and prepare my food, I don't know where the food of my dinner came from but it had some grain of sand in it, and got it served cold, was kind of disappointed. Drinks he prepared were of good quality. If you don't want too much sugar or salt in your food, make sure to tell him in advance before he prepares them. Very nice man he was. The room was good, except bathroom which could have been in much better condition, and toilets not flushing. Next day I moved to an other room 'cause of the non flushing toilets. They will make sure to satisfy all your needs for the visit of temples and attractions around, big plus for that. Aslih the driver / guide was super cool and fun to be with, but be sure to get the right price before you start your journey with him. Ahmed who took care of everything thru airbnb messaging was of great help, and really did a great job. I didn't have the chance to meet him as he was in cairo then. Overall was a great stay, oh and btw, seems that there is a swimming pool coming in the future.

  • Located in the heart of a village and close to the Nile—our main mode of transport in Aswan—Puk and Ehab's place was a welcome retreat. Ehab was a wonderfully generous host, hooking us up with boat rides and a Nubian dinner. The place itself is very clean and has a trendy modern-classic design that we loved. We highly recommend Puk and Ehab's place. It was a wonderful time.

  • Mango Guesthouse is a very relaxing place and a good break from the hustle of the city. My single room was clean, toilet was okay, wifi was working fine and the common area would allow guests to enjoy the quiet and peaceful surroundings. Puk and Ehab were very accommodating, helping me with planning my 1-day itinerary. Because of you, I was able to maximize my stay in Aswan. Thank you Shinuda was always there to help me and Hamedo took me along the Nile. My only regret is that I only stayed for one night. I recommend people to spend at least 2 days. Aswan is a very beautiful place!

    Kenneth Gabriel2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Mango house is very nice. It was awesome to have wifi, the rooms were clean and spacious, and the dogs were awesome! Ehab was so helpful, and showed us the best local places. I would definitely return.

    Anita2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Puk and Ehab's place is a real jewel, a spotlessly clean home in the middle of a Nubian village on historic Elephantine Island, just a minute by ferry from Aswan's corniche. Both are incredibly friendly and helpful, ready with advice and booking contacts. Very modern rooms with reliable WiFi. And if you like dogs, they have three people-friendly pets.

    Bruce2017-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • We initially booked with Puk and Ehab as the photos looked inviting and friendly. The wonderful reception we received on arrival, and their friendliness and helpfulness during our stay went way beyond that. So nice to meet and spend time with such a lovely couple. Our stay with Puk & Ehab made our trip to Awsan a truly memorable experience. We highly recommend a stay with them and their beautiful dogs.

    Kate2017-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Place was very clean. The room and bathroom were very spacious. The water heater works well. The shower is good. Unlimited coffee and tea. There is a well equipped kitchen we used. Ehab was very helpful. He organized a trip for us to Abu Simbel. We asked around and that was the best price compared to what other folks paid. Ferry to the island is frequent and costs 1.5 Egyptian pounds for both ways. The house is 2 min walk from the ferry. Only negative was the wifi was slow and barely usable.

    Roshan2017-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Puk and Islam are very nice hosts. They took me care that we like a our short stay in their house. Elephantine Island is a bit isolated, which we liked for the awesome quite and peace. However, it is still only like 5 minutes to the ferry and suddenly you are in the Centre with shops and night life, everything you need. Our room was small but very cozy and very clean, the common kitchen also clean and well equipped. Islam also helped us to set up our trip to Abu Simbel and a boat trip to some beaches and around the island. I will definitely come back if ever I go back to Aswan. What supposed us: there are no roads on the island, so getting our heavy luggage was not very easy, however totally worth it! A/c would be nice, as the temperatures get to 40 in April, but it was manageable with the fan.

    Lenka2017-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Puk and Ehab's place was the single best experience I've had with Airbnb. The room is very cosy with comfortable mattresses. While there's not a whole lot of space to spread out in the room there was still enough room for me and my massive bag, so no problems there. It's in a beautiful part of Aswan that feels like a very secluded and quiet little village even though it's just a quick 5-10 minutes away from the city center (that's including the ferry ride off the little Island) The thing that makes staying at this guesthouse so wonderful though were the hosts who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome, help me with my trip and organised everything I needed at a moments notice. I would recommend this place to anyone. If you're coming to Aswan, definitely look into staying at this place first.

  • Excellent location. Marwa is communicative, helpful, and hospitable. I had a beautiful stay. The cons were no wifi which was a huge deal for a traveler but otherwise I was very happy with my stay. For commute I recommend taking the movenpick ferry.

  • Great place to stay. The people are nice. It's very quiet. Great view from downstairs. It's easy to access the Movenpick Hotel transit and get to the mainland.

  • The place pretty cozy, well situated with amazing view over the opposite side of Nile with tombs, felucca rides, Kitchener island.... everything from the big terrace where the nice small place is. The room was really clean, without any dirty things. Small breakfast was included. Just orientation across the Nubian village was problematic, so just ask for everything what is related with the village exploration.

    Petr2017-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • the place is very small.Maybe suitable for more than 2 persons. There is no hot water inside which makes it impossible to take a shower. The host is nice to give us enough quilts otherwise we cannot survive that a cold night.

  • The room in a local island is fantastic for those who want to discover the local life in Aswan on the very famous Nubian island, with its very natural surrounding. The view is awesome and calm. Downstairs u will find a Nubian Restaurant where u can have a coffee or tea and enjoy the view.

    Francesca2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a well-designed and nice Nubian style house. It locates on the west side of Elephantine Island and has a superb view of the sunset on the Nile. Ragab is the cook at the small restaurant on ground floor and helped me a lot with transportation and tours. Although I didn't meet Marwa, she has been very helpful and informative and helped me with my trip to Abu Simbel. It will be a nice stay if you like quiet country life and a taste of Nubian life here.

  • Marwan's house is idillic. It is situated on the quiet side of Elephantine Island facing the Botanical gardens so has wonderful daytime and nighttime views. But being right next to the Movenpick hotel gardens it is very accessible by the Movenpick ferry as you can take this and walk through the hotel and you're at the guest house. But better than that, especially for arrival when you have luggage, Marwan can book you an inexpensive motor boat that brings you directly to the house. This was a great benefit for us as 2 female travellers. At the guest house they have a small restaurant and cafe so you need go no further than their Nileside terrace to enjoy meals and cups of tea. The terrace is a perfect place to hang out and watch the feluccas sail by and chat with the friendly hosts. We hardly moved from there on our first day. We also greatly enjoyed the host showing us round the village and a sunset felucca trip he took us on. The interior of the house is magical with its traditional Nubian style. We stayed in the double room for the first night and the flat for the rest of our stay and the flat is very well equipped for self catering, not that we did any as we so much enjoyed dining at their restaurant.

  • While we didn't meet Marwa, we were greeted by Ahmed, who basically runs the place for Marwa. He was very helpful with us the entire time. He changed money for us, brought us a meal, and arranged tours to Abu Simbel, the nearby Nubian Village, and a felluca ride. The house is remote. You can get to Aswan by public ferry, but doing so takes time and we found it a lot more convenient just to go through Ahmed for our needs. Thus, we were almost entirely dependent on him, which was good and bad. Good for the convenience, bad because we didn't know if what we were paying was a fair price for what we received. Just be warned that you may also find yourselves in that situation. The apartment had very good AC and the views from the apartment of the Nile are spectacular. There are a few places nearby where you can swim. The kitchen was basic and there was no dish soap for us to wash our dishes. There were no garbage bags so we got ants very quickly. We were told to take the trash out before we left. Finally, there is no wifi in the house. We asked if they could get wifi for us, and they charged us 100 LE for very, very slow wifi that we used for a little more than a day. That was totally not worth it, as almost nothing would load or download.

I enjoyed the Nubian hospitality at Bet el Kerem very much, the breakfast and dinner were delicious. Abdel can arrange trips in the region at good prices. In particular, I can recommend going by felucca from Aswan to Komombo or Edfu with Captain Shadle with the Felucca Bob Marley Family. It was a wonderful sail, just driven by the wind and the current. Thanks Abdel for everything, I definitely hope to come back!

  • Bet El Kareem was truly more than the pictures tell. My stay was amazing with great food, great hosts, great direct view of the tombs of the nobles(which is a 2 min walk from the guesthouse) and a awesome experience staying inside a Nubian Village. Once you enter the guesthouse you are treated more like family rather than a guest. If you plan on staying in Aswan this is definitely the place to stay.

  • The Bet El Kerem Guesthouse was a very hospitable place to stay while in Aswan. Abdel was helpful with tips on seeing the city like a local. The breakfast and dinner were delicious and the view is wonderful.

  • Wonderful hosts, exceptional view, clean, great location, delicious food, quiet (but easy access to the city of Aswan across the river). Highly recommend.

  • 5/5, exceeded all expectations I had prior to arriving. From the moment I arrived I was welcomed with a traditional "karkade" drink and water by Tarek who let me rest before giving me a tour of the house and my room. Collectively, the entire staff displayed the highest qualities of hospitality and kindness. Came to Aswan alone but they made me feel right at home and also set up rides to all of Aswan's attractions for me. Dinner (understatement, they cook you an entire buffet) by the 2 lovely chefs was well worth it and highly recommended. The bedroom, public spaces and bathrooms are very clean and spotless. Also, the location was ideal for me as it is a short walk away from the ferry to the lively inner city of Aswan. Can't wait to be back! Tarek, Sabry, Mohamed and Emad - Thank You!!

  • The guesthouse is in a quiet place about five minutes from the ferry across the river; so it is easy to get to and it is easy to get to and from Aswan. It is also about twenty minutes from the airport. It is a five-minute walk to the tombs, and you can easily get a camel to take you through the desert to the monastery. Abdel will happily take care of any arrangements you need to make. Breakfast is wonderful. If you leave earlier, you will be given a box breakfast to take along. Dinner is available if ordered in advance and is quite good with plenty of food. The terrace is a great place to relax and enjoy the view of the dunes and river. I would recommend staying at least two nights to fully benefit from this relaxing guesthouse.

  • Staying at Bet El Kerem was the highlight of my two weeks in Egypt. Abdel was very personable and made me feel at home; as a solo female traveler this was very much appreciated. Breakfast on the rooftop in the morning was a wonderful way to start every day, looking out across the desert and adjacent Nubian village. Additionally, I was able to book a wonderful tour of Aswan with Bet El Kerem's Captain Ali. Cruising down the Nile with Ali was wonderful; he's very knowledgeable and I really enjoyed spending my day with him. For a relaxing, hassle free experience in Aswan, Bet El Kerem is not to be missed. Thanks Abdel and Ali!

It's a nice house on the Nile
The accommodation is on Elephantine Island, Aswan City in Egypt - it's a part of the Nubia region. There are 2 bedrooms. There is a salon. The bathroom has a bath tub as well as a shower. The accommodation has air conditioning and WI/FI. The house is direct at the Nile. How can I help you? I would like to walk with you around Elephantine island, talking to you about the history of the Nubia and Elephantine Island, telling you about the places around the area (Aswan Botanical Garden, Agha Khan Mausoleum and Tombs of the Nobles). Also, I would like to tell you about the story of The Old Cataract Hotel and Agatha Christie. Foods are chargeable upon request , Delivery to your home. I can organize for you any program in my beautiful city Aswan, for example: 1. Felucca - sailboat - journey on the Nile 2. Motor boat on the Nile 3. Journey to Abu Simple Temple 4. Journey to High Dam, Philae Island and the unfinished obelisk 5. Nubian foods delivery to your accommodation * I will give you my mobile number and you can call me 24 hours a day (= Gasser Anwar
  • Ibiza house on elephantine island is the jewel of the Nile. Situated directly opposite Aswan Botanical gardens, the front of the house opens right out onto the river facing this luscious view on the opposite bank divided by a picture perfect scene of the Nile being gently glided by serene sail boats. The back of the house opens out to the Nubian village in which it is situated. It is a short walk to a fabulous local restaurant cafe where you can dine on local delicious Nubian food. Alternatively, as Gasser arranged for us two nights, you can dine downstairs of the house in your own private open air restaurant over looking the Nile. The house is immaculate and very well equipped with every household essential. It is sweetly decorated, the beds are super comfortable, the air conditioning is great, the bathroom very clean with a great shower and toilet! As is the Wifi very good. Most of all though Gasser is a great host. Without him we would have been pretty lost amid the hordes of hagglers, the language barrier and total disorientation of needing to find things like mobile SIM cards and top ups in a completely new country to us. Gasser has a lovely bunch of people who he entrusted us to for a trip to Abu Simbel, and arranged our train tickets for Luxor, took us to the local areas of interest and accompanied us on our sail boat experience. Gasser himself is very trust worthy which is rare in a country where most citizens have a very different approach to tourists. I was surprised at how safe I felt as I expected to have to watch for pick pockets all the time. However I have learned that Egyptians don't need to pick your pocket, they get your consent! Aswan itself is one of the most beautiful tranquil areas I have had the pleasure of visiting in Egypt and if I return it will be to here. The actual town of Aswan is like many other Egyptian towns, simply a lot calmer! We loved our time there and missed it when we travelled for an over night stay in Luxor. Gasser is a brilliant person to visit this part of the world though and was so helpful to me via email in planning our time there before our arrival, answering many questions, we are so very grateful to him for his honest and reliable manner on which we came to depend. Thank you Gasser!

  • This booking was a last minute impulse on my part. Something a bit different, something off-the-beaten-track: and that it certainly was! I can only endorse all the positive comments previous reviewers have left - the house was delightful, communication was impeccable, and Gasser could not have been more helpful and committed as a host. Thanks Gasser for a memorable experience... one I hope I can repeat some day.

  • Ibiza House is a beautiful place - perched above the river with a stunning view of Kitchener's Island, possibly one of the best views in Aswan. Being on Elephantine Island means utter peace and relaxation. I could have easily stayed there for a week longer. Gasser is warm, kind and helpful and so is Mamoun, as is Said who has a boat moored right outside the house, to go on trips down the river. They have all touched my heart and made my time on Elephantine unforgettable !

  • Ibiza is clean and beautiful, true to picture. It was an easy ride of ferry from the main Aswan Island. The boarding point is near KFC. A lot of space for the three of us. The kitchen is well equipped too. The terrace overseas the Nile river and we just loved sitting there after returning from visiting the attractions, looking out at the peaceful Nile. Gasser was not around when we were there but he was always contactable and gave us lots of advice. His cousin, Tyso ( I hope I got the name right) took good care of us. They help us arrange a trip to Abu Simbel on the convoy at really reasonable rate. Never once were they pushy on tour services, they just present it to you once and leave you to decide, which is a plus point. :) The BBQ food at the cafe below the terrace of Ibiza is good too.

  • El-Amin was the perfect solution to our travel needs in Aswan. Traveling to and from was simple and inexpensive (10EGP) one way, right next door to a coffee shop with lots of food options, and a great host. Gasser helped us tremendously when it came to traveling and coordinating our tours. Definitely use his knowledge of Aswan to your advantage. The only drawbacks were the wifi signal wasn't very strong (enough for web surfing and email but not streaming content) and the mosquitoes in Egypt are a pain, so he are you bring some OFF! to keep them at bay. Other than that, our stay was perfect!

    Tabria2016-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Ibiza House is a perfect place to stay in Aswan. Not only does the house have amazing views, all mod cons, excellent wifi connection and a great terrace but the island is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Aswan and yet so accessible by a ferry which takes a couple of minutes. This is the place to stay if you visit Aswan. You won't regret it.

    Jimmy2014-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place that rivals the mainstream Movenpick next door. Faces thebeautiful Nile and nubian temples. Got an interesting look into the lives of the Nubian people. Note that you will need to take a ferry whenever you go to the mainland for a token sum. Adds to the authenticity of it though. Didn't see much of Gasser though, could be a timing issue. Also we had agreed on 350LE for a daylong felucca trip with "lunch included" but it came to 400LE and I had to pay for lunch which turned out to be a relatively large sum. That said it was still an amazing experience but better communication would have been appreciated. Definitely consider this place if you want a slice of Nubian life. Unforgettable view.

    Timothy2014-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • When you stay at Gasser's, you are guaranteed a beautiful and breathtaking view of the Nile and Aswan. Staying in the unique Elphantine Island, and exploring the historical and artistic roots of it- enhanced with Gasser's insightful commentary gives you an opportunity that not many people get when they come to Aswan. If you would like a more organic experience, I definitly recommend staying at Gasser's and am looking forward to coming here again and again! Thank you Gasser for the most wonderful time :)

  • Firstly, when you choose to stay at this place you will be interacting with Mustafa, who owns the place. Muhammad helps coordinate (from what I understand). While Muhammad was prompt in answering all my queries its Mustafa that will probably bring me back to this place. Lets start with the house. Its a simple place, well equipped and has a stunning view - exactly as has been described. Mustafa will help settle you in, show you around and also help travel in the fluke boat. He also helps arrange for felucca trips to nearby locations. He gives you your space, understands your requirements and is super helpful. We had to unfortunately cut our trip short, but in the little that Mustafa showed us, I fell in love with Aswan. He knows his history and is ever helpful. Very polite and very dapper :) If you want a place that's a get away and is reasonable, this may be your answer. Thank you Mustafa! And thank you Muhammad...

  • The house is super nice! It has two flats from which one is hosted my Mostafa. He did always help us immediately with everything! In the kitchen is a big gad oven and everything you need to cook. On elephant island close to the ferry is a market for vegetables and other stuff, so you even don't have to leave the island :) The whole surrounding is super nice. Friendly people, the water directly in front of the house (where we had a swim every morning) and a beautiful rooftop with a very comfy matrace. Except from the mosquitos the roof is the perfect place to sleep :) We love Aswan and hope that it will always keep its chilled and friendly spirit.

    Alfredo2017-02-21T00:00:00Z

  • Great place, perfect réception.

  • Mohamed was great. He informed me prior to my stay that the AC in my original booking was inoperable, so he let me stay in his other listing (thankfully since a stay in Aswan without AC would have been unbearable). Mohamed put me in touch with his cousin Ali, who was a magnificent and generous guide. Ali took us on a felucca ride and made us tea from the Nile! He also put us in touch with a local felucca captain Mustafa, who also happened to own a delicious restaurant (we of course went). Aswan is an amazing city and everyone made us feel extremely welcomed. Much better than Cairo..

  • Mohamed's place have a great view to the river from the terrace but little uncomfortable walking around the village to get out and have a boat to cross the river to the city. I was waiting for the boat at 9am for more than 20 min even that if the boat decide to wait for get full of passenger the boat u re stuck. The place is recommended for people don't have much to enjoy if it s for relaxing stay maybe that is good for u. There u don't have place to go if u need watcher or some grocery so if I go be ready and take before I ride the boat... restaurant there re basic standard. But as I say it Mohamed always got back to me even with a short period of requesting his place. Ali a sweet guy who was there waiting late T nite to take me to the place. But the amazing view to the river let me realize Swan is great place to relax.

  • I stayed at Mohammed's for one month in January to get some writing done. I usually live in Cairo, which was too loud to focus and so I decided for a trek down south, and this place is perfect for that. The apartment is in a building directly on the Nile, on an island, which has no cars or other motorised vehicles. The loudest thing you hear are kids playing and the neighbours sheep. On the island basically everyone knows everyone and after a couple of days you will notice how the "city people" in Aswan are more rushed and don't greet each other on the streets, while on the island you say "salaam" when crossing someone's path. This is also helpful in the first days, when you get lost, because basically everyone knows Mohammed Bashir's house. Otherwise the island offers little in terms of entertainment. Mamoun, the owner of the little hostel next door, makes a good grilled chicken if you are too lazy to cook or head over to Aswan. For most things however you have to head to Aswan, which means a short stroll through the village to the ferry, which costs you a pound. There also is a Mövenpick on the island, where you can sign up for a monthly pool and gym membership. On top of a weird tower looking structure is their restaurant and bar, where you can enjoy a fancier 3 course meal, or simply have a drink during sun set. The view over the island and Aswan is spectacular. The apartment is fully equipped, with a washer / dryer, pots, pans, plates and all you need to cook for yourself in the kitchen, a fridge etc. There also are an a/c in the living room and two fans, but due to the season I used neither. Mohammed picked me up from the station, which is necessary as without help you would not find the place. He is really nice and speaks decent English. He works in tourism and if you go to Aswan for that, he can surely help you to find your way around, book trips and other things. As I was writing, I asked for absolute quiet and that is exactly what I got. When I was inside the flat, no one ever bothered me with anything, which was perfect. I can whole heartedly recommend the place, either to stay there on your own, or with family or friends. I am currently thinking about a new writing project and if this should materialise, I would be very happy to return to Aswan next year and to stay with Mohammed again.

  • We had a lovely time on the island and really loved the apartment. Everything about it is exactly as described and it's very comfortable. My place is close to High Dam . You’ll love my place because of Its very clean Nubian House, you will live in the old nubian's Atmosphere, house on the top of most beautiful island called (Hiessa) between High dam and Aswan Dam, Nile scene all over you, live with very kind nubian people, helpful, try their special foods and pure smile. . My place is good for solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and big groups.
  • The house is okay. Definitely not in winter as it's freezing at night. Main problem was with bathroom as it wasn't working at all. And the shower as there was no hot water. Would have enjoyed it more if it was a different season. But overall, the island and the views were good.

  • Staying on Hiessa Island was truly a unique experience. If you want to escape the city life, and emerse yourself in the Nubian culture this is the way to do it. Abdulrahman was away, but he had arranged for Tarren to pick me up at the train station. *Note: the train station platform in most areas is sand which makes it hard to roll your luggage. A backpack is better. Tarren was very hospitable, and bought me water and things because I didn't have small bills. The ride to Hiessa Island is beautiful, you drive past the Old Dam, and take a water taxi to the island. The island is very quiet, but the people there are very friendly and will always wave to you, or offer you tea. It was a very relaxing, peaceful experience. I also swam in the Nile everyday, there is a beach very close to the house. I would have to say, if you decide to go to Hiessa, bring an appetite. The ladies of the house cooked me meals everyday, it was lots of food but definitely the best I have had on my travels throughout Egypt. Nothing beats a home cooked meal! (*Bamia with Okra is so good!). For pricing on the meal cost, or the water taxi just confirm with Abdulrahman ahead of time. Also, the ladies have handmade Nubian crafts they have made that you can also purchase if you wish to do so. Hiessa is a great place to relax, swim, drink tea with the locals, enjoy amazing food and catch up on reading. If that's for you, you should definitely go!
