The River Cabin is a rustic log home dating from the 1930s. The property includes hundreds of yards of frontage on the Greenbrier River as well as 140+ acres of woods, wildlife and natural beauty. The area offers antiques, whitewater rafting, exquisite scenery, historical & cultural attractions. The cabin itself has been updated for a bath and kitchen. The big screened porch overlooks the Greenbrier River. Once you check in, you'll have the place all to yourself until it's time to leave.
The cabin is a fully furnished year round home, rustic but comfortable. Take note of where the furniture is, then move whatever you want to make your stay more comfortable. You can put it back the way it was when it's time to leave. Don't lose any time before acquainting yourself with the beautiful Greenbrier River. Drop your suitcases on the bed, unpack your groceries and step out onto the big screened porch overlooking the river. There's no better white sound than "live" water and there's no better place for a nap than a rocking chair on our porch. In a matter of moments, you will feel at home. The cabin has two double beds - one in the bedroom and a second one in a corner of the living room. There is also a twin sized hotel bed that can be unfolded and made up as needed. Linens are provided for all three beds. If you have extra folks coming with you, we provide two single cots that make a comfortable bed (you'll need to bring sleeping bags for those). There's room on the floor for an air mattress (ditto on the linens - we stop at 5). The bathroom has a nice sized shower with plenty of racks for hanging towels. Bath and bed linens are provided. The lower shelf has a hair dryer, steam iron and miniature ironing board that can be used atop the kitchen table. The kitchen has a stove, microwave and refrigerator. Basic dishes, utensils, pots and pans, serving dishes, cookie sheets and baking pans are ready for use. All of the pottery, china, stoneware and pyrex dishes are oven and microwave safe. The fridge and cabinets have basic condiments and some food stuff. Unless it's marked "Do Not Use" you may help yourself. If you do finish off the last of something basic like butter, coffee, sugar, etc., it would be thoughtful to buy some more to replace it before you leave. Of course, if you don't want to cook, you can venture out and find some wonderful food. Because of the proximity to the Greenbrier Resort, our part of West Virginia has a great many restaurants with creative chefs who finished their training at the Greenbrier. The River Cabin notebook on the telephone table has suggestions for nearby activities. Let us know what your interests are and we'll try to point you in the right direction. You don't need to leave our property if you like hunting, hiking or fishing. Birdwatchers are treated to sightings of great blue herons, pileated woodpeckers and occasional bald eagles in the daytime. Eastern phoebes are charming, as well as the bank swallows that hang out near the river. After dark we are used to hearing the night call of several species of owls. We keep binoculars and a bird identification book on the sideboard in the kitchen. Even though the property affords privacy, it is only 4 miles from a regional hospital. The old railroading town of Hinton is just 7 miles from the cabin. There is a Kroger grocery store, Rite-Aid drug store that includes a liquor store. For almost anything else you might need, MagicMart is the place to go for everything from chain saws to lingerie. Board games, batteries, appliances and Christmas ornaments - if they don't have it, you don't need it. We keep a toy bin with books, dolls, finger puppets and dinosaurs under one of the living room tables. Board games and playing cards are under the other. And, of course, there's the river. The Greenbrier is suitable for tubing or kayaking. You can bring your own raft, canoe or kayak, or you can rent one in town. Whether you're headed out for an afternoon of skipping rocks or a few hours of photography, we've cleared two paths for ready access down to the river and back. There are over 200 yards of river frontage. As our guest, you may fish from the banks but if you want to cast a line from a boat or canoe, or if you want to drive down to the public access spots and try your luck in the New River, you'll need a West Virginia fishing license. Angler's shops in Hinton always know what's biting on any given day. They can sell you whatever license you might need. Naturally, they'll also have a selection of tackle they'd like for you to have a look at while you're there... We enjoy walking in the woods "up the holler." It's an easy to moderate hike along an old logging road that goes almost to the top of the mountain. The hills on either side are steep and present more of a challenge. Walking sticks are stacked in the corner beside the back door in the kitchen. Note: Be sure to bring them back with you!! It's easy to get caught up enjoying the greenery but if you set one of the walking sticks down to take a photograph, be sure to take note of where you laid it so you can bring it back with you.
This is a vintage log home, tucked in between small creeks and ravines and surrounded by dogwoods, maple, oak and hemlock trees. The property includes 140 acres with hundreds of yards of frontage on the beautiful Greenbrier River. There are good roads all the way to our drive. Camp Lightfoot Road is one lane but there is room for two vehicles to pass each other if both are courteous about pulling over onto the shoulder a bit. The cabin is our home away from home. When we're expecting guests, we clear out and let you have the place all to yourselves. The notebook on the telephone table has a map of the River Cabin property so you'll know the dimensions of our acreage. Most of the guest comments include some mention of the screened porch, and some folks never leave it long enough to go exploring on the rest of our property. With more than 140 acres, however, you can take some nice walks along on the old logging road that follows the creek. Or you can strike out through the woods and catalog the wildflowers and native plants. There's a guide book in the living room that you can carry with you. We've come across Jack-in-the-pulpit, maidenhair fern, rhododendron, wild ginger, miterwort, scads of ferns, decorative lichens and more. Please note that guests are not permitted to pick, harvest, cut or dig anything on the property. The woods are charming, and we want to leave them just the way they are. Walking sticks are stacked beside the door that leads out onto the screened porch from the kitchen. Note: Be sure to bring them back with you!! It's easy to get caught up enjoying the greenery but if you lay the walking stick down, remember to bring it back with you. The Greenbrier is a "natural" river; it has never been dammed, and the banks are home to beavers, river otters and a huge assortment of birds. Regular sightings include bald eagle, great blue heron, pileated woodpecker, Eastern phoebes and many more. We keep binoculars and a couple of bird identification books on hand for your use. In front of the cabin, the river is 103 yards across and it is an excellent stream for smallmouth bass and other game fish. You may keep what you land or you can catch & release, whichever you prefer. Local fishing outfitters have the best information on what's biting and what kind of tackle to use.
  • Bonnie's place was so homey and peaceful. She answered all of our questions quickly and with lots of great detail, and even left some treats for our dog. The river was gorgeous...we could have spent the whole time out there, honestly. Thank you again Bonnie! We hope to bw back soon.

  • This place was so nice and comfortable. I loved being able to here the river and sitting on the screened porch. I sure wish we could have stayed longer.

  • A very warm welcome and everything we expected and more.

    Gert2016-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is a wonderful place to stay. The screened in porch was my favorite. We spent a few hours just watching people walk through the river fishing and listening to the water flow. The cabin felt like home. Beautiful, quiet and private. The road is paved and Bonnie's directions were perfect. I would stay again.

  • This was exactly what we were looking for. Every year for our anniversary, we stay somewhere different in WV- cabin, resort, BnB, etc. We were looking for a quiet, beautiful place where we could relax, but also experience WV for the beauty that she is. Bonnie's cabin was 20-30 minutes away from anything we needed or wanted to do for the weekend. We went to Hinton for some local eats and drove to see Bluestone State Park and Pipestem. It was a perfect fall weekend. We had service with our cell phones (with Verizon), but we really didn't need it. We enjoyed sitting on the screened-in porch and listening to the river while we read books or just enjoyed the scenery. Bonnie was excellent with communicating with me before the trip and gave us tips on places to go. Her homemade pickles were delicious and such a nice treat to see upon arrival. The only thing I didn't "love" was the bed in the main room. It's made for a person who likes firm mattresses, so if you want to be swallowed into your bed like I do, you may want to bring an egg crate top. Other than that, thank you for such a wonderful experience!

  • This is a great rustic cabin! The porch overlooking the river is priceless. It is secluded, but only about 7 miles to the grocery store. We loved it!

    Mike2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • From the beginning, Bonnie made me feel like I was not a guest but someone who had a home away from home. While I was familiar with the area she made sure that I had everything I needed to make it to the front door with no problems. What I really liked was the welcome letter providing us instructions on making sure we felt at home, at ease. As someone who owns a vacation rental one of my frustrations is going in to find our things moved around; Bonnie gave me a great idea......she merely asked us to look around and see where things were located then feel free to move things around as we wanted but requested we move everything back. That simple thing made us feel so at home. The beds were very comfortable as was the furniture. The linens were nice rather than feeling like cheap hotel linens. Of course the best thing about the cabin is sitting on the porch and watching the river flow by. It is so relaxing and gives you the feeling of serenity. While there is no TV, Internet or wireless phone service a short trip into Hinton gives you time to check your messages if you feel the need and we downloaded some shows that we could watch at night when it was too cool and dark to sit on the porch. If you can break away from the porch, there are many things to do that are within an hour....Hinton has some wonderful historic buildings and Lewisburg is a great town to visit. The John Henry park and memorial is just over the mountain and definitely worth going to. We had a jar of pickles waiting for us on the kitchen table when we got there. We waited until arriving home to try them and they are wonderful. Bonnie makes these pickles and we found them in a store in Hinton so if one jar isn't enough there are more available. If you want to relax and enjoy nature I highly recommend checking out The River Cabin along the beautiful Greenbrier River......you'll understand why John Denver describes West Virginia as Almost Heaven.

  • Great view! fresh air was plentiful, it was very quaint & quiet. No WiFi and our particular phone service didn't reach the cabin but there is a landline for local calling. It's close to Pipestem State Park and resort and even closer to the Bluestone River/State Park and Dam and also the town of Hinton. Host was attentive and eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible! Enjoyed our time there and would recommend it to others and would stay again.

Why rent a house or cabin when you rent the whole mountain! My place is close to Interstate 77 exit 14 only 7 minutes. You’ll love my place because of the views, the highest lodge in Mercer County WV. My place is good for couples, business travelers, families (with kids), and big groups.
Over 6000 sq ft of mountain top home with 2000 sq ft wrap-around deck, sliding doors in every room.
  • This home was amazing. 13 men traveled to West Virginia for a bachelor party and could not have asked for a better place to stay. Beautiful views, beautiful home, and great host. This by far has been my best visit using Airbnb. Ready to plan my next visit!

    Tony2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing get away for a 10 person bachelor party. The house is much larger than the photos suggest and the view is amazing! No on else is on the mountain and there are all sorts of places nearby to shoot skeet or paintball. Steve was particularly helpful to make sure we had everything we needed. There are plenty of kitchen appliances and pans and dishes. There is also a grill on the deck. All of this plus an amazing view! We plan on going back!

    Benjamin2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • I took a group of 15 to stay at the house and we all had a blast! Perfect place for a large group. The house accommodated our whole party perfectly. The views are a major wow factor and are just beautiful! The house is literally on top of a mountain and all the deck space offers a panoramic view of the surroundings. There is a fire pit and grill on site which we took full advantage of. The house is just a short drive away from a state park that offers hiking, horseback riding, archery, kayaking, golf, etc. If you are looking for a peaceful place to just get away and enjoy life, look no further, you have found it!

  • Stephen was a great host. The house was in a beautiful location and perched on the mountain you can see for miles. Great hikes in the nearby state parks. Would definitely stay again.

  • Our family gathers yearly for a time of fun and catching up. This was the perfect place for our annual retreat. Spacious, comfortable, family-friendly, secluded, breath-taking views from its mountain top location, and wonderful outdoor activities at Pipestem State Park just minutes away. Stephen was easy to work with and made our stay enjoyable. Everyone would stay there again!

The West Virginian sits in the woods at the back side of the golf course of Pipestem State park, together with our two other log homes. It features all the comforts of home, with a wrap around porch and picnic area, fire pit and park style grill
This spacious 3-story log cabin, features all the conveniences one could wish for. The total square footage of 1800 can comfortably house 8 people. Upon entering at the middle level from a wrap around porch, one finds a dining area seating eight, a powder room and a large kitchen with a bar, a comfortable seating area facing the sliding doors leading to the covered porch, where one can sit and enjoy the forest life or watch a brilliant sunset. Upstairs are two bedrooms. The large master suite has a queen bed while the smaller room has two twins. The huge full bath on this floor has a great shower, separate claw foot tub and double sinks and toilet. Downstairs at the lower level, you will find a spacious living room. There is a large bedroom with a queen bed and a smaller bedroom with two twins. A full bath with toilet, sink and shower. Sliding glass doors leading to the outside grounds with a camp style grill picnic table and firepit. Because of the three levels of this cabin, it offers lots of privacy.
  • I had a great graduation weekend with my family at the West Virginian! Everyone loved how thoughtfully everything was decorated and we found everything we needed in the right places during our stay. The cabin itself was beautiful and so was the location.

    Zihan2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful cabin. Lots of room and everything you need. Quiet relaxing environment with gorgeous park. The only recommendation I could even suggest would be a tv in room off of kitchen. My patents had a hard time with the stairs leading down to tv room. Would definitely stay here again.

    Michele2016-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • The West Virginian was exactly as we hoped it would be. Clean, roomy and in a great location. Contacting the host was easy and our inquiries were answered promptly.

  • Hans and Lisa's place was a great stay. Lisa was very helpful with check-in as we didn't anticipate arriving earlier. We loved how cozy the place felt. The fire pit and grill made it easy for us to have a night in and have family time. The directions were very helpful in finding the place. I recommend this place to anyone as it was one of my family's best stay in West Virginia.

    NATHALIE2017-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and a beautiful cabin. Everything you need to make your stay comfortable is provided for you. I couldn't ask for a better experience. The Pipestem area surrounding the cabin is also quite beautiful with lots to do.

    Brian2017-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • The setting was peaceful and beautiful. Especially nice were the upstairs/downstairs sitting areas , which allowed the younger folks to have a place to chat apart from the older folks. While the weather precluded the full utilization of the porch, the wrap around covered porch would have allowed extraordinary space for chatting/eating in a beautiful wooded setting. Finding the house in the dark would have been challenging--glad we were driving there in daylight hours.

The Yurt is luxuriously rustically decorated. The yurt sits in the midst of the 1500 acre Kairos Wilderness Resort. There are approximately 40 miles of trails that you can either hike, ride bikes, horse back ride or use ATV's or side-by-sides to experience the beauty of nature. The yurt can comfortably sleep six. It is an easy ride to the campus of Virginia Tech. The Kairos property sits adjacent to the beautiful New River, where we can make arrangements for you to experience the river.
  • This yurt is super nice! I stayed here with 5 other girls for a laid-back bachelorette party and it was the perfect accommodation. Apparently we were the second group to ever stay there, so everything was brand new and really well put together. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of seating for everyone. Add a fridge, microwave, shower, and flat screen TV and we really were glamping! Our favorite feature was the open skylight at the top of the yurt- by night we could see the stars and during the day we saw clouds! John is a super responsive host and very accommodating. Most of us were traveling from way out of town and all arriving at different times and he was very patient with us. I really appreciated his flexibility. I truly loved staying here, but I would warn is that there is no garbage disposal or dishwasher so dishes can pile up really fast! And since it is a yurt, it really does function much like a tent. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything someone is doing throughout the whole building. The only time it posed as a minor problem for us was in the morning when some people slept in and others were cleaning up. It also seemed like most hiking or outdoor activities required driving about 30 minutes. We had only planned events for the evening so it didn't affect us much, but could be good for people to know.

    Taylor2017-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the stay at Johns yurt. It was new and very clean and accommodating! It was pet friendly which made it perfect for us. We were able to ride our dirt bikes on the miles of trails and had a great time. We will be back again.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Yellow Pine Cottage! The house was out in the country- beautiful, clean, and spacious. Nice kitchen with large table, great for us to fix food and play games. Nice big porches to enjoy the outdoors! John greeted us at the end of the long driveway as that we arrived at night. His mother was there as well and welcomed us with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. So sweet! They answered a few questions we had about the area. Check in and check out were easy. My family and I stayed for the weekend to ski at Winterplace (about 35-40 min drive) on Saturday and stopped by Pipestem State Park on Sunday. I definitely recommend staying here!!

  • Susan was an amazing host! I had been away from home for 6 weeks and she warmly welcomed me and invited me to her table for a home cooked meal. Her generosity and kindness was priceless. Her property is gorgeous and her home has a unique story! The outbuilding with the private room was very well kept and exceeded my needs for a night's stay. It was peaceful sleeping with the windows open and hearing the horses outside. You do have to go down the stairs from the room and into the main house to use the bathroom, but I did not mind that at all. Just make sure you have a flashlight handy. The kittens and pup will also help escort you to the door :) I cannot say enough great things about the hosts! It was like visiting old friends, not meeting strangers. The value for the room was outstanding. I highly recommend stopping in!

    Lauren2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's farm was amazing!! She is such a sweet lady and we made homemade blueberry muffins together. I love how she makes food from things that she grows herself! She has inspired me to want to homestead. I would definitely stay again in the future! The room was quiet and secluded. I felt very welcome. Thanks again, Susan!

    Susan2017-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Susan has a charming home in the country of West Virgina. We were greeted by a rooster, ponies, and cows upon arrival. I wanted a private bathroom since I was not feeling well that day, so I ended up staying at a hotel. Susan was more than understanding and we ended up talking for quite some time before I left. Based on what I saw, I would highly recommend this stay to anyone passing through.

    Alyse2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Susan and Bill's home. The down home country atmosphere made a unique and pleasurable experience. Horses, roosters, dogs and nursing kittens added to the small farm charm. Staying in a separate building gives you privacy and sharing the bathroom within their multigenerational beautiful family home gave us a chance to get to know each other. A perfect stopping point on our trips home to see family will make this a place we'll return to again and again. Instead of just sleeping in an anonymous motel we'll be stopping by to see our new friends. Great people, scrumptious muffins and coffee and an awesome value. Highly recommend!

    Martha2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We slept so well! The bed is comfy. We awoke to the sound of a rooster's crow. When we walked outside we were greeted by a friendly dog, a snuggly cat, and two horses. Very sweet! We were traveling from Kentucky to Virginia, so this was a nice break. Susan was welcoming and quick to reply to questions.

    Charley2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first ever airbnb experience and it was great! Staying on the farm with Susan and her family was very enjoyable. The room offered great privacy as it was not connected to the house (stairs to access). The room was clean, had internet access, as well as a mini fridge. Susan was a wonderful host making sure that we were being taken care of well.

    Nicole2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Susan and her daughter invited me to a delicious homemade dinner and made me feel right at home. Nothing like real hospitality! They have a beautiful home and are very welcoming. I will stay here again next time I come through West Virginia!

    Trevor2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place. Susan and her husband have been lovely to us and gone beyond their duty as our hosts to make our stay as comfortable as possible. As we were arriving late, Susan shared their dinner with us and prepared us breakfast the following morning. They are friendly and very aware of our needs and gave us advice as to what to visit and what roads to take. The house was clean and nice, as well as the room where we stayed. The place is really quiet and full of nature. It is localted directly behind Winter Place Ski Resort. It would make a great country stay for any skiers out there. I would recommend it to anyone!

  • This place was perfect for our family! We had so much fun! Jim and Dawn were incredibly nice. My only problem with the description is that it doesn't depict how beautiful the view from the mountain is! Surrounding area also has fun and unique stuff to do. That said, you will either want to have 4WD/AWD or make prearrangements with Jim when coming up here. Warnings about bears are not to be taken lightly (not that we had any problems). Also, you will want to bring flashlights/headlamps (it'll just be more fun at night; speaking of, the s'mores were a huge hit with the kids). If these things seem like a no-brainer to you, you should totally rent this place! (Hopefully you don't book it when we plan to come back!)

    Ben2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Place was great, exactly as described. Very private getaway in the Appalachian Mountains. Great views, and plenty to do in the local area. We enjoyed our stay greatly and would love to return. As others have said, the ride up to the cabin does require a 4WD vehicle. During our stay we actually didn't encounter many bug pests except for wasps. At night, it was not really buggy out, and I was suprised by this.

    Gregor2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • No-frills cabin with an outstanding view and plenty to do (hiking, fishing, kayaking) in the surrounding areas. Jim and Dawn were thoughtful hosts. They went the extra mile to make us feel welcomed, showing us around the property, and sharing a few treats (local wine, smores supplies, homemade jam). Make sure you take plenty of bug spray - you'll need it, especially in the evenings. And a car/truck with 4WD if you have it - the path up to the cabin is steep/rocky. All-in-all, we enjoyed our stay!

    Claire2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in the Narrows was just perfect. The cabin is greatly arranged, Jim and Dawn (hope I don't misspell your name!) were very considerate and had planned lots of things such as nice wine, sweets and fruits for the kids, homemade marmalade... The sight from the cabin is breathtaking. Difficult to say more - we just wish we had stayed longer! Thank you so much!

    Daniel2016-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • I've just returned from several nights at Jim and Dawn's mountain cabin and we loved it! As others have posted, it's somewhat difficult to get to, but that's the part we liked the most. It's all about adventure and getting to the house is just the start of the fun. The hosts loaned us their truck, and it was needed as the road up the mountain is tough terrain. Once to the cabin you have the mountain to yourself, with plenty of hiking and wide open skies at night. We used the balcony with it's amazing views each night. We also utilized the large firepit on the cool fall evenings. I highly recommend Jim and Dawn's cabin, they were delightful hosts (Dawn is 6th generation on the 800 acres!) who shared interesting information and history about the area. The cabin is clean and comfortable and casual, exactly what we were looking for. Thanks Jim and Dawn for your grand hospitality. We're missing the mountains already!

    Kyle2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Dawn were kind and hospitable. For example, we arrived in a Nissan Altima which would not have been able to make it up the hill to the beautiful cabin up on the mountain. As a result, they let us use their Suburban to drive up and down the mountain each day. Our stay was perfect. We hiked around their property, saw deer, and anytime we needed something or had a question, they were responsive and helpful. They also provided maps and attractions of the surrounding area. The accommodations were comfortable too. We cooked every day, fell asleep to starry skies, woke up to clear skies, and built a fire to make s'mores one night. Thank you for everything! We loves staying on your property and would do it again in a heartbeat!

    Chris2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view. Quiet and secluded. We had a great time and even got to see Cascade Falls which is amazing.

    Karen2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Dawn are wonderful hosts! The cabin has stunning views of the valley around the charming town of Narrows, perfect to get away for hiking, stargazing, hanging around the fire pit. Comfortable cabin with everything you might need for a simple and refreshing getaway. We loved it, a great adventure!

If you're looking for that out of the way place to just relax, it's here. In twenty minutes you can be fishing Bluestone Lake or the Greenbrier River, taking in lunch or the neat shops in Hinton, or just enjoying Pipestem or Bluestone State Parks. Three bedrooms and two baths, the perfect getaway. Watch the sun come up over the mountains or the meteor showers while stargazing.
  • This cabin has it all! Seclusion, yet a short drive to area attractions; Bluestone, Pipestem, downtown Hinton, Sandstone falls and the beautiful Greenbrier river are all nearby. The space is very clean. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. Pair all the above with a great host and you're guaranteed a satisfying stay. Carolyn was very accommodating and easy to communicate with.

  • 1. This place is close to nature, and private. I can't hear cars or people's noises from here. It has a big private yard, I sit in the yard and watched the mountains, and read books for hours. It was a wonderful afternoon. 2. This cabin is way bigger and nicer than it shows from the airbnb pictures. It has everything we need, kitchen stuff, books, board games, yard furniture, grilling stuff......we especially appreciate than there is no TV in this cabin. 5 friends and me enjoyed our night by talking with each other instead of playing phones. 3. Hinton is a nice little town. People in the town are friendly and honest, they gave us a lot of help. New river, bluestone river, and pipestone park are beautiful and unique. Totally looks different than KY and OH. 4. Carolyn and her husband are very kindness and nice people. They gave us a lot of help. 5. Best price ever for such a big and nice cabin like this!

  • Carolyn's place was absolutely superb. We and our three children aged 11, 11 & 9 had a lovely stay. The house was immaculate, very comfortable and homely. Carolyn was great to deal with and left some welcome supplies in the fridge and also recommended great local activities to meet our needs. We loved using the grill, the fire pit and watching the moon and then the sunrise from the master deck - very special. We wish we had had a full week to enjoy this wonderful place.

    Robin2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn was an amazing hostess. We were running a bit late for our scheduled check in, but we were able to update her en route to let her know and she was there waiting on us for our arrival. As she went through the amenities (OJ and milk for us in the fridge), fire pit in the back yard, gas grill if we were cooking out, my wife joked that all we need is a colander for our pasta dinner (our boys were running in a Spartan Race the next day) Carolyn realized there was no colander in the house - we said we would be fine. 10 minutes after Carolyn leaves us to unpack, she is driving up holding a colander out her window for us. She bought it from her own house for us to use. This falls into the "above and beyond" category for a host!

    Michael2017-08-27T00:00:00Z

  • Perfect peaceful getaway. If you're looking to get out of a big city and into a small hometown kind of place, then this is a great airbnb for you. Very clean, home-y, and completely secluded/private. You don't have to interact with anyone or the host if you don't want to (however I suggest meeting Marilyn because she is very friendly!) But be warned that you may not get phone service (out AT&T phones didn't at the house but did once we reached the main road) but we didn't mind being cut off from the world for a little while. We had a great experience and can't believe the amenities and quality we got for the price. Highly recommend!

He was a wonderful host, met us right when we arrived and took us on our way to the cabin through his grandfather's beautiful property. The cabin itself was secluded and very clean. • A little cabin in a gorgeous part of the world. It sits in between a lovely farm and a wonderful old forest with tall trees. Preston, the host, may be new to AirBnB but he was an exemplary host. The place is a secluded - perfect for a quiet weekend reading. A car is a must. But would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing few days in a beautiful spot.

Ron even stayed up late to make sure we made it to the cabin because we got lost! Very nice area and very nice people!!!

Historic, home with original Arts & Crafts woodwork, in the heart of town. Come make yourself at home. 2 of the 8 bedrooms are currently available, but renovations are underway! We hope to have the whole place available by Christmas 2017! Walking distance to grocery stores & restaurants, massage, outfitter, & post office.
Unique, historic home in the heart of Giles County. The first owner was William Bane Snidow, the first Commonwealths attorney from Giles County. The home stayed in his family until the 70's when it was purchased by Dr. Joe McGuire, who made many additions & upgrades. We are only the 3rd owners in 114 years! Most of the original Craftsman woodwork is intact and the furnishings are from this school of design, as well. Come make yourself at home in this historic & well-loved home.
Older neighborhood with big trees and friendly but quiet neighbors. Walking distance to downtown. Great views of the Blue Ridge from upper floors.
  • Kelley was an awesome host! The room and house were clean and she was always available to assist at any time!

  • Kelley’s wonderful home is the perfect place to explore SW Virginia and all the outdoor activities it offers. The room itself is clean, comfortable and cozy, while Kelley herself is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. In fact, my experience was so good, I extended my stay another week!

    Mark2017-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were just as advertised, nice older home with great character...very clean & quiet! Easy to get in & out. Kelley was a great host & made you feel right at home! Definitely would consider going back in future.

  • Thank you Kelley for welcoming me into your home. It was just what I needed after a long day on the bicycle. A hot shower, a comfy bed, a nice view and air conditioning.

  • Kelley was as charming and gracious as her very beautifully furnished comfortable home. The serenity of the accommodations really enhances the beauty of the mountain view. A spectacular drive down the hill to Blacksburg. Highly recommended!

Located within 3 miles of Pearisburg and 25 miles of Blacksburg, Honey Hill Cottage is a surprisingly private escape to the country. Spend the days enjoying the amazing views from the front porch or fire pit. Cool evenings can be spent in front of the large fireplace. Close to a myriad of outdoor activities or Virginia Tech events, Honey Hill Cottage offers something for every visitor.
The cottage is secluded, with no immediate neighbors.
  • We really enjoyed staying at the cottage. During our stay, we saw wild deer, which was fun, too. I also loved how convenient it was to get there. I highly recommend staying here.

    Celeste2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely fall weekend at Honey Hill while in Blacksburg. We have twins (one at VT and one at Clemson) so we traveled down to go to the game and visit our sons and their friends. The home was lovely, well appointed and larger than expected. The beautiful view , front porch and fire pit were our favorite features. Thanks for sharing your home with us. We hope to return soon.

  • Maximum peace and quiet at a very nicely remodeled mountain-side cottage with beautiful hardwood floors throughout, modern kitchen, nice tiled bathroom-great shower, comfortable bed, and inviting covered front porch with magnificent views of the Appalachians. Real fire place (which I didn't use). Good high speed internet, Apple internet TV in downstairs den (which I didn't have a chance to use). Quarter mile uphill gravel driveway which my Acura navigated easily. Perfect home base for a vacation near the New River, Cascades waterfalls, and mountain hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail.

  • This cottage is just what the doctored ordered! It's freshly remodeled, quaintly decorated and the amenities were just right. The location is serene and easily accessible from 460W. I would highly recommend this cottage for any one who is looking for a peaceful getaway.

  • Melissa and Scotts cottage is perfect for a peaceful getaway! The best part was building a fire and lounging with a collection of short stories chosen from Melissa & Scott's awesome collection of books!

    Grace2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Another nice quiet stay with beautiful mountain views in this nicely decorated modern cottage.

    Frederick2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is the perfect place for a weekend getaway! It is fully stocked with supplies and everything you need to have an enjoyable stay. I have never stayed in a vacation home with such a wonderfully stocked kitchen! The pictures don't show, but there is a basement with an Apple TV (no cable available in the house). The outside fire pit was our favorite! The only precaution is that there are no blinds or curtains on any window, except for the bathroom. There aren't any close houses for anyone to see in, but if you don't want to wake with the sun, I would suggest bringing a garbage bag to tape to the window sill. Other than that, the stay was perfect and we can't wait to return!

  • Renting Honey Hill Cottage was my first experience through Airbnb and it was of first class. The communications with Melissa and Scott was excellent. The house was beautiful, clean, open outside area and spectacular view and so private. Filled with amenities which made which made are stay very comfortable. Even if we had brought our own coffee, detergent etc it felt so caring to find that they offered such in the house. Our first impression was that we hit jack pot and that impression lasted our whole stay. It was hard to leave. If i go back to that part of Virginia I would rent it again. Thanks Melissa and Scott.

Ready to ride the best ATV trails in the country? Welcome to the Bramwell Guesthouse. You will be staying in downtown Historic Bramwell and less than a mile from the Pocohontas trailhead. Why stay in an outdoor yard-shed when you can stay in comfort and have privacy? The guest house has high-speed Internet so you can upload your trail memories. There is a fire-pit beside the river where you can share stories, throw in a fishing line and a grill to cook up some dinner.
Your guesthouse is the garage apartment beside the main house. It has two bedrooms and a living room with a futon. I don't mind if someone wants to put a tent beside the house under the large pine tree. The river can be viewed from the rear beadroom (my favorite). There is a kayak (if you are extra-adventureous) . Here are the best places to eat with 5-15 minutes of the house (some accessible by ATV): - the corner shop (1 block walk) - the buffalo (10 minute drive on main road, no atv) - the railyard or big whiskey BBQ (great local pub and one of the top BBQ restaurants in West Va, get the brisket)
Bramwell is a very old and historic coal town. There is a great museum near the house so you can walk to it (or ride) as well as one of the BEST trail restaurants (The Corner Shop).
  • This is a very nice, clean garage apartment in a small town of Bramwell. Downtown is easily walkable and has a few restaurants and shops. Very quaint and quiet. Great location for ATV, with easy access to the Hatfield and McCoy trail systems of Pocahontas, as well as the spearhead trails located close by in Virginia. We felt welcome by the towns people even though we are driving ATVs on public roads. Dave is a great host, very generous with his time and food! Cooked three meals for us, and we ate around the fire next to the river. Definitely planning to come back.

  • We were able to check-in when convenient bc we were given a code for the keypad. The apartment has its own private entrance and overlooks a running creek/stream that our boys played in for hours. We enjoyed a nice bonfire and dinner outside and shaded lunch under the big tree the next day. The jack n Jill bathroom was perfect for our family and we enjoyed all the natural sunlight from all the windows. I had coffee on the porch every morning and enjoyed overlooking the stream and ATV'S across the the mountain. This apartment is tucked into a safe, quiet and quaint little town with shops, dining and sights. Only a few minutes away by car was gas, grocery and a dollar store for forgotten necessities.

    Cindy2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Dave was awesome! He even took my daughters and I on a tour of the town and also on the surrounding trails. We will definitely be coming back!! Thank you so much!

    Nathan2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Dave super nice guy and gave a great discount as I had to evacuate my family from Florida due to hurricane. He took my niece on ATV ride and grilled us all hamburgers. He is super accommodating and just an easy going type. There are about 10 wooden steps to get to apartment but even my brother with hip replacements and severe arthritis was able to manage. Super quiet neighborhood. Helpful neighbors.

  • Had a good experience here. Location is good, and the house itself is quite nice! The décor is tasteful, and the open space around the house makes it ideal for larger groups looking for a weekend getaway. Tara was very proactive as a host - I barely had to ask any questions.

    Vishaal2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • Very nice home with lots of extras. Perfect for our family reunion. Would definitely come again.

    Frederik2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Host was very quick to respond to questions. The house was beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice! The bed in the room with the balcony was so comfortable. I am a light sleeper but slept like a rock. The yard was huge and the kids had a wonderful time playing on the tree swing. Bring your water shoes so you can wade in the river across the street. I would definitely stay there again.

    Nanette2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful yard and view of the river. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking with plenty of pots and pans and utensils. She even stocks children's cups and plastic plates. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • Tara is an amazing host. Though she wasn't present on site, she took care of everything for us. The house was extremely well maintained and we absolutely had no issues whatsoever. In the future, I would consider staying here without even a second thought.
