“Tons of great hiking, wonderful views if you walk on the East River Road side up the Jessie Girard trail. Picnics, or swimming in the river. GREAT biking.”

Cinema
“ 17 Minutes : One of the few drive-ins left in Connecticut. 2 movies for 10 bucks... Convenient food and decent prices! It was a fun and a new experience for me. Great place to bring kids to play on the lawn before the movie starts. The new digital projector seems to have made a big difference in picture quality. It's still not the biggest screen in the world, but I had no problem seeing the movies when we visited. Maybe I'm nostalgic. Where else can you see two movies under the stars, drinking root beer and eating onion rings? It's one of those Americana experiences that is rapidly disappearing.”

“Easy to challenging hiking trails with fantastic vistas. For a more challenging hike, look up Jesse Girard Trail or Henry Buck Trail. For something a little easier, try the Elliot Bronson Trail. If you came for the classic New England fall foliage, this is the place to go.”

Church
“8 MINUTES This beautiful old brick Meeting House has stood on Washington Hill for 165 years. It was built 1833, dedicated on October 16, 1834. It stands at the junction of Routes 179 and 219, in the town of Barkhamsted, Connecticut, and was the mother church of the North Canton Methodist Church, which celebrated its centennial in 1972. This is an unusually beautiful building and is one of the very few prime examples of an early Methodist Meeting House remaining in Connecticut. Barkhamsted is extremely fortunate that it remains practically unchanged from the way it was first built and retains all its antique beauty.”
