  • Overall experience: OUTSTANDING! Super friendly, knowledgeable host, beautiful views of local crofts, breathtaking beaches, lovely clean home and easy access by local bus.

  • Andrew was the perfect host. He was so helpful and as some of our group had been camping overnight he invited the campers to come and use his home to shower. He was very friendly and helpful. We hope to get back to Uist again in the future and if we do we would like to stay at Andrew's. There is a hotel nearby where we ate in the evening. Andrew's place is conveniently located for exploring both North and South Uist.

  • No, the advertisement was not right, i thought to come in an old and okay room, but came in a totally new room, warm, new bed and new linnen room, a warm welcome by Andrew, and he is a guy really taking his time to explain you the island, where to go, and everything you need. The island is remote, but what an adventure, so see this nature, beaches, and skies. This is for sure a place where i will come back! Thanks you Andrew!

    michel2016-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew is a wonderful host and a super warm and friendly person — Easy to talk to and welcoming from the first minute. His house is tidy, clean and well equipped with everything a traveler might need. Kitchen and bathroom are modern and wonderful and so was my room. I stayed here with my baby son Milo and Andrew really went out of his way to make as feel comfortable and at home:) We didn't have a car and were still easily able to explore the islands south and north of Benbecula by public bus. The bus stop is just a 10 min walk from the house. A well equipped supermarket is a 25min walk away. All in all Andrew's place is a gem and I can absolutely recommend it!

  • Andrew is a great host. A warm, friendly welcome. Great accommodation is a clean, warm, quiet room. Andrew is always ready to help with local information. Highly recommended.

  • Superior host and accommodations, absolutely no flaws. Andrew is a truly fine man. Note particularly the remote location and get detailed but simple directions to the property.

    Ronald B2017-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew was a great host, friendly and helpful. The place was very clean, the bed comfortable and the check in easy. Andrew was very accommodating about my early arrival and gave me good tips on things to see in the area. I had a little trouble finding it due to a GPS issue. Using the postal code (which is a common way of getting directions in that area) it directed me to the wrong house. I couldn't pick up a signal, so using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps was not possible. I ended up calling Andrew, who directed me right to the house. It wasn't his fault, but is something to plan for if you're using a similar set-up. The house is great, and very conveniently located. I highly recommend it.

This charming island cottage is an ideal base for visitors to explore the Scottish Outer Hebrides. Wifi and freeview tv, peat fire and rustic appeal - this house is ideal for up to 2 people. + loft accommodation for two. Your host Niall is an islander born and bred - welcome!
Taigh Neill is situated in the centre of the beautiful island of Benbecula and offers easy access to both the multitude of stunning beaches on the West side of the Island and the many moorland walks through the hills and mountains to the wildlife abundant rugged shores of the East side. This thatched cottage, originally built in 1880, has recently been renovated and offers a high standard of extremely comfortable self catering accommodation full of rustic charm, including a peat burning stove, combined with the modern facilities required for your stay. Ideally located to explore the neighbouring Islands, Taigh Neill is just a short drive from the islands of South Uist, Eriskay and the ferry port to Barra, all of which were featured in the most recent series of the popular BBC documentary ‘An Island Parish’. Alternatively drive North and explore the vast empty beaches and breathtaking scenery of North Uist and Berneray. Regardless of where you decide to go in the Uists, you will be sure to be impressed by the abundance of wildlife including birds such as the hen-harrier, the illusive corncrake and the majestic sea eagle, or take a walk along the sandy machairs and be astounded by the diverse variety of scented wild flowers which carpet the land. For the more adventurous visitor, take a boat- trip around the west coast and get a closer look at the hundreds of sea birds and seals which make their home on the surrounding coast-line. A rare treat is the otter which can be seen swimming and hunting around the shallow bays or basking in the sun on the seaweed covered rocks. Whatever your reason for visiting the Islands, Taigh Neill is an ideal place to come home to at the end of your day.
Rural charm, breathtaking views, closeness to nature, with plenty of local shops, restaurants, pubs, ceilidhs
  • We really enjoyed our stay. Niall's home was well appointed with everything we needed. He was very attentive and helpful. It was a wonderful respite resting under a thatched roof with a peat fire.

    Michelle2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Niall was an amazing host, very hospitable, always smiling and wonderful with the children. He knew all there is to know about Balivanich and the surrounding areas and was happy to answer any questions, even the most trivial ones. The cottage is wonderful, beautifully restored and presented. It is well equipped with literature, games and utensils so rainy days are no problem if one doesn't feel like tackling a hill in incumbent weather. The fire was roaring when we arrived and the cottage was cosy and comfortable. The children loved the ladder up to the gallery and enjoyed the outside space. They saw seals, Arctic terns, a hen harrier, an eagle and lots of sheep! They went horse riding on the beach and Niall let them cuddle the lambs and collect his hen's tasty eggs. They even enjoyed the walks up Rueval, part of Ben Mor and the Nature trail in North Uist. The beaches are beautiful and the views all over the island are raw, rugged and breathtaking. We all felt totally invigorated and inspired. One of our best holidays, thank you Niall.

    Jane2014-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was really cosy and had everything we needed. A great base to explore the island and Niall went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend!

  • A stunning cottage in a lovely secluded location, but with shops a short drive away to get the essentials. Nice to have a fire inside with a basket of peat to work our way through. A good selection of info, maps and walking guides to the area which was very handy! Overall a lovely place to stay with a smashing host

    Becky2017-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We totally loved our stay at Niall's cottage. We loved the fact that it is the restored family home. Niall has done a great job of adding modern amenities while leaving the authentic charm of the old crofter's cottages. The location is brilliant, 5 minutes from town, where everything you might need can e found. Niall was very responsive to all of our communication and made sure we had clear directions to the place when we arrived. We had a great experience and will use Niall's place next time we come back.

    John2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and historic house, carefully and personally restored - very spacious and comfortable inside. Lovely stove. A great central location for exploring the Uists.

    Rachel2017-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • You should stay in the wonderful authentic cottage of Niall! Its cosy en the host is most willingly to help. We got a lot of peat so the fire burnt the whole evening. We want to thank Niall for his hospitality and the good initiative to renovate te cottage as it was in earlier days with the luxery of today..

This double room has a single room available beside it. It's within 10 minutes walk from the local hotel, the local museum, the sports centre and the beach. The room is 50 minutes drive to Eriskay in the South and Berneray in the North.
  • Andrew's place is in a nice peaceful location and is in our opinion, a fantastic find if you're looking for a place between North and South Uist that is quite central and allows you to fully explore the area in a short amount of time. Andrew is such an accommodating host and was extremely helpful during our time there. Would definitely stay here again if we ever return!

    Beryl2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew is a great guy and game me a very welcoming experience. The croft is stunningly beautiful and well placed to explore the islands, and the bar at the Dark Island hotel is only 2 minutes walk away. Only wish I had more time to spend there!

    Charles2016-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Andrews place. He is very welcoming and made us quickly comfortable. Great Islands!

    Sophie2016-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew's place is amazing. We stayed there for two nights and felt truly like home. Andrew made sure at all times that we had everything we needed, offered us food and drinks if we wanted. He gave us very good tips for spots to visit in Uist island. Andrews was always willing to chat with us, and was very friendly! The house is very good quality and new. It is very clean, the kitchen is also brand new and we could cook our own meals easily. The room cannot be more comfortable - private, silent and spacious. The location is also very good if you want to explore both Nort and South Uist, since it is in the middle. Nearby the house there is a Co-op supermarket - also very useful! And there is also a beautiful beach just 2 min drive from there. I would recommend Andrew's place to anyone!

  • Andrew is an outstanding host, the room tidy and comfortable. Thank you!

    Matteo2016-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew was very welcoming and when I rang him to say we were on the way he drove up to the end of his road to meet us. He showed us all around the house and made us feel very welcome. He had the rare ability to be open and friendly, but was also tactful in not being overbearing. As he has lived in Benbecula all his life, he has a wealth of local knowledge. He gave us excellent advice, not only about Benbecula, but the Uists also. and told us the best places to see otters. We loved the Hebrides and if I get a chance to go back I will be definitely staying with Andrew again.

    Colin2016-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay with Andrew. He was always seeking to make us feel at home and he is so communicative and always in a good mood. The room was very clean with a comfortable bed, TV and a nice view from the window. Guests can use a separate big and very clean bathroom. We could use the kitchen at any time and also the living room. The house is perfectly located to explore South Uist and North Uist and we got lots of good tips from Andrew. Thumbs up! We definitely recommend staying with him.

  • If you enjoy experiencing living in a home with items from times past integral to the house but also with the modern amenities like central heating, cooker, fridge, washing machine and microwave to make life easier then you will love Flora's place. No TV and no wifi were actually a blessing and helped make this a peaceful haven to come back to from exploring the Uists and Benbecula. It is warm and homely with comfortable beds and a bathroom downstairs and shower room upstairs where the bedrooms are - so no trek at night for a visit to the toilet! Try your hand at making a warm and comforting peat fire. The views from the windows are fantastic and seeing the sky at night with so many stars and the Milky Way was awe inspiring.

Our place is on the Island of South Uist next to beautiful Loch Bee. We have two double bedrooms next to a bathroom for your use. The Uist Machair is a World Heritage site and our beach is 25 miles long! There are daily ferry connections to the Isle of Skye and Oban, Argyll. Benbecula airport links to Glasgow and Stornoway using Flybe. There are hotels, cafes and shops within 5 miles which we can recommend. Askernish Golf Course is an 18 hole links course laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1896.
Each bedroom has fully controllable electric heating and a built in wardrobe for your use. Both Bedrooms are comfortably furnished with a double bed and one even has a piano!
Our village is small and quiet. St Bride's RC Church is opposite the house and holds services on Monday mornings and alternate Saturday evenings. In winter there are Ceilidhs at the local village halls and music in the local bars, particularly the Isle of Benbecula Hotel. Lionacleit School has a swimming pool, Sports track, Gym, theatre and Library open to the public. Fishing is widely available and RIB sea trips to see seals, dolphins and sea eagles can be arranged locally. Libby is an author writing adventure novels about Uist- see our Hebridean Storm facebook page for more info. https://www.facebook.com/www.hebrideanstorm.co.uk/
  • Bryan and Libby's place is truly the home away from home. They are genuinely some of the most down to earth people where you can sit and have a cuppa. The room was clean and tidy; it was also nice to have our own bathroom. Bryan and Libby also have 3 friendly dogs and 1 cat; they are friendly and well behaved although they won't mind the attention from guests. Would definitely recommend!

    Carmen2017-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Bryan and Libby were generous and welcoming. They were very personable and informative about the local area and history. The room was comfortable and a TV is provided in the bedroom for evenings. There is access to their kitchen and you can negotiate when you can cook. The location is beautiful, stunning even. A car helps but there is a bus at the end of the road. Their dogs also make you feel wanted!

    Sue2017-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Bryan's house is a gem of the Hebrides. A beautiful place with a beautiful scenery, and some of the warmest most welcoming hosts AirBnB has to offer. The pets, too, are lovely and a good distraction from the dark Scottish winter. (And the full Scottish breakfast deserves a mention, too!)

    Alberto2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming hosts in a fantastic setting. Great views out over the Loch and very quiet. Enjoyed chatting about island life. The dogs were very friendly too.

    Mark2017-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great situation on the Hebridean Way and a very relaxed and friendly host

    Grant2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Bryan and Libby were very friendly and welcoming hosts. They have 3 incredibly friendly and lovely dogs and possibly the friendliest cat I have ever encountered. The local supermarket was a welcome sight after a tough days cycling in the rain. The weather cleared after I arrived and I was able to explore the machair and spectacular local beaches.

    Adrian2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really welcoming people and dogs (5 off at the time) great bon homme with very interesting folk. We had just cycled through a head wind and rain which contributed to making us very later. This didn't faze Libby & Brian as when we arrived we were instantly warmed by the charm and personality. Good cuppa tea to start the thawing out, shower then glass of red nectar - what more could you ask for!

My place is close to the beach, public transport, the airport, and family-friendly activities. You’ll love my place because of the cosyness, the views, the people, the high ceilings, and the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. Uist has much to explore, so a stay of a few nights is recommended. Your room is private and self contained but we are a friendly family who will do everything we can to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
The Bothy is self contained, private, and quiet. there is an en- suite shower, wash hand basin and toilet. The T.V. is wall mounted with a good selection of channels available. We also have a selection of books to read or browse as you relax. Guests often comment on our comfy bed. There is a bedside cabinet with three drawers , wall hanging for longer items, two areas of open shelving and hanging space and under bed and under -shelf area for case /bag storage. The room and shower room have ample mirrors and there are three hooks and a hanging ring for towels in the shower area. A hairdryer and travel adapter plug is provided.
Our accommodation is situated about 12 miles south of the ferry port of Lochmaddy - and about a mile south of the village of Carinish. The house,( a long cream house with a small wooden shed at the end) is clearly visible from the main road, with a large garden, and is a short turn in from the main road.
  • This was a perfect spot for exploring Uist! It was clean and had a delicious continental breakfast delivered daily! Ishie had a family emergency and her neighbor was there to help! I felt well taken care of and Ishie even went above and beyond and did my laundry! Beware of the adorable donkey who will sneak in Ishies yard if you don't latch the gate! There is much to explore in the area! I loved my stsy!

    Gayle2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • The listed description of the room was very accurate. All of the amenities provided suited our needs perfectly and also has an en-suite bathroom(which is a nice feature). We didn't meet our host on this occasion but if we are ever in the area again, I would definitely recommend Ishie's place to stay.

    Beryl2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was as expected based on the reviews I had checked out and the 100% correct descriptions online. Ishie is a perfect Highland host with the bedroom and shower-room/toilet just spot on for a couple of nights as you tour through the Uists. The Highlands and Islands should take some lessons from Ishie on how to provide great basic clean accommodation, a continental breakfast deluxe, masses of tea, coffee and fresh milk - Excellent value for money. We will be back !

    Peter2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great facilities and host

    Mike2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice, cozy little bothy, just what we wanted. Central to the Uists so ideal for touring

    David2017-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a comfy and quiet place, yes a tad remote but, that is the beauty of it. The MOST beautiful sunsets..... Ah memories. It is also close to a few trail heads that make for some challenging and beautiful hikes. We, where graced with wonderful weather. Scotland can be quite wet and the weather report is almost always wrong. This house is accessible by public bus. Has wifi and TV with plenty of BBC. The host is sweet and brings you breakfast the evening around 9. It is a cold breakfast but generous. The room is completely separate from the rest of the house, with a private bath. It is small but everything that one needs is in it, microwave toster. The mini fridge, for the milk or yogurt, is quite amusing. Highly recommended for backpackers midway through your journey on the Hebrides; because that was us :)

    Jaana2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Small and secluded, set well back from the road in the middle of open country about 11 miles from the Lochmaddy ferry. Clean and friendly and well-placed for touring the beautiful Uists. Fine for sleeping but the room is quite small and lacks the proper space and amenities for an extended stay. (I would say that it needs a table and more cooking, storing and hanging space and facilities to make it perfect!)

    Geoff2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was a really comfortable and clean room. I especially liked that you were provided with kettle, toaster, microwave, mini-fridge and a set of plates, bowls and cutlery - although I didn't really stay long enough to make full use of them, it gives you far more flexibility that most b&bs. Ishie was also very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay in North Uist for 1 or 2 people.

  • This is a great wee house. It was spotless and comfortable and felt really solid in spite of the howling winds! Very grateful to James as host because we had to find accommodation at really short notice due to cancelled ferry. Mike2017-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was extremely comfortable and immaculately clean. Bed was very comfortable and the apartment was warm. Fantastic location overlooking fresh water loch and sea loch. Every day the view changed with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. From the apartment you can see deer, eagles and otters if you are lucky. The apartment was well equipped and it was very helpful to have maps and local information available. There were also a number of books on the area and relating to Scotland. There is a wi-fi connection but in a location such as this you may wish to enjoy the landscape surrounding the apartment.

This bright and spacious 3 bedroom house is beautifully presented and in walk in condition. Just a short walk from Balivanich town with easy access to shops and easy access to the beautiful beaches of Benbecula. This house would be a perfect base to explore the western isles of South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist.
  • We had a great week on Benbecula. We were greeted by Colin's lovely Auntie-in-law who gave us a quick introduction and had supplied us with biscuits and milk which was much appreciated. There is an incredibly well stocked shop a five minute walk from the house packed with lots of fresh fruit and veg, and a huge variety of food. There is also a restaurant, The Stepping Stone, about a ten minute walk from the house and it is lovely. The house was in a great position for reaching both North and South Uist and is just a 50 minute drive to Eriskay. We felt we managed to access as many of the islands as we could in the time we had because of its location. The house was lovely and clean and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.

    Douglas2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Colin's house is beautiful, cozy, and a great place to rest, relax and see the islands. The four of us had plenty of room, and found everything we needed in town. We appreciated the full kitchen and the washer/dryer.

  • This is a very comfortable and spacious house. It is clean, tidy and had all we needed. The house is well located if you want a base to explore the Uists. It is in an area of housing but it's quiet and there is great supermarket 5 mins walk from the house. There is also a really nice beach at Aird which is only 5 min drive away. Colin was a great host he answered all our queries. The tea and biscuits he had left for us were most welcome.

    Eileen2017-07-21T00:00:00Z

  • Clean and warm with 3 large bed rooms with comfortable beds. A large comfortable lounge to relax in, a kitchen that was well stocked . I would recommend Colin's place and would be glad to use it again. A warm welcome from Isobel on arrival and I loved the biscuits you left us.

    Allan2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • A superb central location to take day trips north and south. Very friendly and very comfortable. I would recommend Colin's place without hesitation!

A home that can sleep up to 8 comfortably with plenty of living space for all with 2 living areas and large garden. Situated in the heart of the North Uist west coast, Sùil ri Cladach is the perfect spot to enjoy the very best of the Outer Hebrides. Our spacious and cosy island home features stunning views overlooking the shore opposite the island of Kirkibost, the gentle hills behind and miriad lochans that dot the landscape of North Uist. You'll instantly feel at home in our clean, spacious and comfortable house. We provide towels, bedding, dishes, pots and pans and more — all the amenities you need for a relaxing retreat. Spend an afternoon curled up in front of the fire with a good book in the living room; enjoy the view from the kitchen as you sip your morning tea or coffee; and keep a lookout for the resident Owl and Hen-Harriers who comes down to the house on the hunt most days. Our house can sleep up to eight people (2 doubles and a twin upstairs; one double downstairs) and is large enough to allow plenty of 'alone time' as well as a large kitchen diner for those memorable meals with everyone gathered round.
There is so much to do in Uist. Take your pick of hiking the nearby nature trails (the Balranald nature reserve is a treat), fishing (fly or reel) cycling or enjoy the stunning beaches - perfect for a walk, or even a surf/windsurf/kitesurf. No matter what is involved in your island break, Sùil ri Cladach offers the ideal base. We are opposite North Uist's only pub, the Westford Inn, where you are guaranteed a warm welcome, an excellent selection of drinks, great pub grub and regular local music.
  • Regular visitors to the islands this was our first stay on North Uist. The house is ideally located to travel around the islands. Great views, local wildlife and a well equipped relaxing house to come back to at the end of the day. The only pub on the road island is over the road and serves beautiful food, but some nights you may need to book. A great trip.

  • Niall was extremely helpful before and during the stay. His cottage was very nice and well presented and he had even left us some supplies to get us started. We had a great stay here and I would highly recommend I for any visitors to the island, particularly with its proximity to the town and airport.

    alan2014-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great few days staying here, house very spacious, didn’t feel cramped at all even with 5 of us staying here. Niall phoned ahead and provided all information required which was much appreciated and very useful. The sun even shone all weekend – must have known that there were Lewis boys about and wanted to make us feel at home! Moran taing.

    Kenny2015-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The crofthouse was fantastic and suit us well during our brief stay. Great views from the kitchen and the house was an ideal base to explore the surrounding islands. Communication with Niall was good - we received a prompt response to our queries. Many thanks!

    Kieran2016-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were disappointed with this airbnb experience. We were surprised not to hear from Niall a few days before our arrival, as is usual, and even more surprised not to get any reply to the email we sent him on the eve of our arrival and to our repeated voice mails. Upon arrival at Balivanich, we did not know the address of the crofthouse, whether Niall was somewhere around, and how we would get access to the house. We had to piece everything together ourselves asking people around, going back and forth. We even had to try finding an alternative accommodation before eventually figuring on our own where the house keys were. Obviously a very unpleasant experience, especially when traveling with two elderly people and two young children on a windy, rainy day among unfamiliar surroundings. The house was fine but we were also surprised not to find the usual sheet of practical information including wireless password, etc... Niall later explained that he had been unavailable because he was in the process of changing internet and phone providers. Even so, we fail to understand why he did not take the precaution to give us all necessary information beforehand (possibly using someone else's internet connection).

    Marianne2015-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location, well equipped house. We are a family of 4 with 2 young kids and suited us well. We were expecting a 4 bed house to sleep 8 from the description however only 3 bedrooms with 7 beds were made available. Perfect for us but wasn't quite what we expected. Beautiful views - well situated for a glorious sunset if weather permits!

    Sarah2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at Niall's for 3 nights with family. Very comfortable stay, house clean, comfortable beds and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Communication was excellent from arrival until we left. Home from home, would definitely recommend

  • Warm house with fabulous open views over Niall's croft. Very comfortable beds and lots of space for the 5 of us and two dogs. Beautiful sunsets every night from the huge kitchen windows. We had lovely weather and enjoyed watching two young eagles from the Lady Anne boat trip. Thank you Niall.

  • A very nice place far from everything that is called 'civilization' on the european mainland. :) Nice welcome by Nick (also flexible in terms of time of arrival) and quick introduction into the place and area. The house provides everything you need. Great views out of the large living rooms windows out on some Lochs / bays / mountains. Be aware that you might not meet anyone but a couple of sheep all day around there. :) You will leave that place totally relaxed.

  • Stayed at Nicks place for 3 nights. His place is very nice and has all the amenities that are required on a self catering trip. we were welcomed with some oat cakes and some lovely local salmon pate which was well received. The view from the front room are perfect for relaxing and would happily come back and stay here if i come back to visit north uist again.

    Chris2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the remote, unspoilt location. Good for photography. Very useful base to explore south and north uist. Filled up all our time with interesting jaunts. RSPB walk was fun, we saw Emperor moth caterpillars and frogs but no birds! When we returned to the chalet there were 2 golden eagles soaring around, we watched them from the chalet window for about an hour. Chalet is well equipped and of high spec fittings. It was warm and comfortable. Nick and Wendy on hand to help when needed ( thank you both) .

    Deb2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, perfect base to explore the delights of Uist. The chalet is very well kitted out and offers all you need. Superb views from the front windows. Very nice touch of a bottle of wine, local salmon pate and oats cakes.

    Timothy2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The chalet is a detached building next to the house & is one of the best little places I have encountered on AirBnB. It is in a quiet rural residential area and the space is well designed with good quality appliances and a view. It would accommodate 2 people just fine. The location is a couple of miles off the main road. It won't suit those wanting to be right by shops or services but it is pretty good if you want to access points of interest on The Uists both north and south of Baymore by car. If you are interested in birds & other wildlife I also recommend taking up Nick's offer of a discounted place on his tour boat!

    Richard2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely spot overlooking a stunning bay and the nearby western hills. Nick was a great host and lives a few houses away. the view from the window was amazing. It is a 30minute drive from the ferry ports and there are local amenities at Benbecula, by the airport. I would recommend the local fish shop at Kallin, St Kilda viewpoint and Hosta beach - and a pint at the Westford Inn (excellent food). Nick does Boat trips but we missed them unfortunately.

    michael2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Baymore chalet is in an extraordinarily beautiful location, overlooking the sea loch and enjoying tangible peaceful silence! The chalet was comfortable, warm and a great place to chill after a very busy six months! Nick was quick to deal with any questions and treated us to a welcome discount on his boat trip for two hours around the island. I would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in staying on Uist.

We were able to use his kitchen to cook dinner. We had a long evening conversation over "a wee dram," and Andrew had some good ideas for places to go. Definitely recommended.

  • This is a great location for sunrises and sunsets. Also Gina provides peat and kindling for the fire which was enjoyable. The only pub on the island is 5 miles away - tip - ring up before going, as it was shut when we tried to visit it one evening. The TV worked OK but not the wifi, due to current technical problems.

  • Great cottage, lovely location right next to the water. Very comfortable, tastefully decorated...looks better than the photos. Spectacular Atlantic beach a couple of miles away for a quick trip for sunset walk along white sands. Weather a bit wild during our stay (Gale force winds) but the house coped (URL HIDDEN) rattling slates or drafty windows. There's an open fire, though we didn't use it as the house was warm.

Our house is by the shore on the island of Gearradubh, linked to Grimsay, the Uists and Benbecula by causeways. High-tide and the water arrives in the garden! The upstairs bedroom looks out over the sea with a view of the surrounding moorland too.
The house is in a tranquil position on a beautiful and spectacular set of wild islands.
The variety of scenery and the light here are spectacular. The west coast beaches run for miles whilst the east coast lochs and moors are a total contrast.
  • Roger and Tricia are fantastic hosts. We immediately felt at ease in their cosy and warm home. They were helpful and gave us great advice for our Hebridean trip. The surrounding views and colours are stunning. We enjoyed very much the company of Roger and Tricia as did our 7 months old daughter! Merci!

    Manuel2016-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were very lucky to have Roger and Tricia as our first hosts here on Airbnb. They were wonderful hosts and we cannot thank them enough for their warmth and hospitality. Their house is cosy and very stylish, and the scenery around the house is stunning. The English breakfast that Roger cooks is to die for. The best English breakfast I have evet had! The room is very comfortable and the hosts had thoughtfully left a book about North Uist there. We had the privilege of being introduced to Roger and Tricia's friends living on the islands and taken on a trip to visit some archeological sites. We cannot thank them enough.

    Nedelina2016-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Roger emailed us the day before with detailed directions to the property and welcomed us to his home much earlier than we had predicted. Roger and Tricia were delightful hosts and made us feel really welcome and at home. Roger got out his maps and showed us places to visit and things to see - in the short time we had on the Uists I think we managed most of them. Tricia gave the OH a lesson in spinning during the evening and a wee dram helped a good night's sleep. Sorry about Marcella, though.

    Mike2016-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Roger was on Barra, teaching but Tricia gave us a very warm welcome. She was completely relaxed about the dogs making themselves at home next to the wood burning stove and about us using her kitchen to cook. In fact, she told us where to find bucket fulls of mussels just 300 yards from her door and opened a bottle of wine while we made delicious Linguini con vongole and had a lovely evening together. Her homemade apricot jam from France is to die for! Thank you Tricia for such a memorable North Uist experience!

  • We arrived at Shoreside part way through our tour of the outer hebrides. Roger and Trish both made us feel very welcome. Their friendly personalities made us feel at home in this very characterful house. We were well fed with hearty breakfasts, given plenty of choice, and their home is warm, with a very comfortable bed! There are lovely views from every window, with a vast range of birdlife on the doorstep. Our hosts gave us tips and advice on places to visit and where to shop and eat out, but they also offered us the use of their kitchen, allowing us to cook for ourselves using local, seasonal ingredients. This was a real bonus over your usual b&b. We would definitely recommend a stay in this very relaxing home. Thankyou both.

  • A wonderful cosy, well-equipped, and clean caravan with amazing views. Very friendly welcome from Rob and Elizabeth. A great base for exploring Uist.

  • You'll just love the coziness of the caravan and the beautiful landscape around it. The sea is just beautiful, the beach in front of the caravan and the other ones near it are great for an evening walk and sunset photo-shooting. The accommodation is very well equipped, we had everything we could need, therefore we enjoyed living there for a week very much and felt sad that we had to leave eventually :) Elizabeth is a great host, took care of even planning for us some sightseeing tours via local bus, so we definitely had a full Uist experience out here!

  • What a stunning place to visit. The whole island has amazing beauty all around with views that you wouldn't experience anywhere else in the world. The caravan is situated 50 yards from the beech. To wake up in the morning to the sun rising and the sound of the waves was amazing. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone. And anyone planning a visit should consider this place. It's piece full and stunning with amazing views from your window.

  • Caravan set directly opposite the beach, so wonderful views to wake up to. It is equipped with everything you need as a home from home and very warm and cosy. Elizabeth and Rob made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of tips on where to explore on the Island. We weren't disappointed. Uist is beautiful.

  • Had a lovely stay! Everything was as described, even some wine, bread and cookies had been provided by Elizabeth. With the warm welcoming from both Elizabeth and Rob I've felt at home immediately! Also they've lent me maps from the islands and given me a lot of ideas where to go on South/North Uist and Eriskay. Definitively can recommend this warm and cozy place with a wonderful view towards the sea!

Our room is small but we try to provide everything a traveller needs. There is a double sofa bed, a single loft bed above, a table, two chairs, heater, and tea/coffee tray with kettle and cups. Free wifi available. Private toilet. Shower in shared bathroom. Light breakfast served at 8.30am, earlier if required. Garage parking for cycles. Car parking. 1 mile to beach and main spine bus route.
Our cottage used to be the local nurses house and is situated in the small rural township of Griminish with other houses nearby. There is a mature garden surrounded by moorland which is a birdwatchers paradise. Room is small with double sofa bed and a single size loft bed above. Private toilet with washbasin next to the room and use of main bathroom with shower. 4 miles to village with bank, airport, shops etc. 1 mile to the nearest beach, 2 miles to school with sports centre and hotel. Garage parking for bikes or motorcycle and car parking in driveway. This is our family home which is small so we can't provide 5 star hotel facilities but we do offer a clean, comfortable space at a reasonable cost and a warm welcome for travellers.
Very peaceful and quiet. Only sound is the birds and the waves on the beach with occasional cars going past. The road is single track with passing places. Cottage is in the small township of Griminish with other houses scattered nearby.
  • I had a very nice stay with Alison. She is a lovely person and a great host. I had to leave early to catch a ferry but that wasn't a problem, she had breakfast and packed lunch waiting for me. Thank you very much!

  • Alison was a charming host even though we stayed only one night she had everything ready for us including a huge breakfast. We had a really good time, wish we had stayed longer!

  • We ended up staying with Alison for two nights. We were taking the ferry across to Barra and her place was less than an hour drive to get there. The room is small ,as stated, but was very comfortable and was all that we needed. Alison had a tray in the room with a scone and sweet with a kettle and tea which you could make anytime. Breakfast was wonderful with a wide variety of cereal, toast, preserves ,yogurt, coffee etc. Great value! Alison was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and when our ferry was cancelled due to high wind ,helped us figure out the best way to proceed. We would recommend her place very highly.

  • Very warm welcome from Alison & George who treated us like family! The accomodation is quite small but plenty big enough for two for a night en route through the islands and we slept well. Benbecula is an interesting place and Alison and George provided some very interesting insights. Our experience was very positive and our hosts couldn't have been more obliging. Very good value. Recommended.

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Alison and George. Both Alison & George made us feel very welcome in their home. Thank you so much for sharing with us your knowledge of Uists and Benbecula - advice which we followed and for which we were rewarded.

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Alison and George. Due to a change of plans in our schedule we arrived a day early, but that was no problem whatsoever and we were kindly offered to stay the night anyway. They are excellent hosts and we felt very welcome and greatly appreciated the warm cup of tea and excellent home baked scones after a day of cycling in the rain and wind. Thank you so much for sharing with us your home on Benbecula. The Outer Hebrides are a wonderful place and it was great receiving so much interesting information about the area.
