“Raceway Woods is a lovely 122 acre open space tract getting its name from the old race track that once wound around parts of it. The central core of the tract has a fine savannah and mesic woodland with steep banks where pocket seeps trickle down into a clear rippling brook that wanders through several pristine natural areas. This preserve includes a horseback riding area. Most horse trails are natural surface, mowed grass paths. Limestone screenings trails and asphalt bike trails are available in some of the preserves. ”

“As the sport of snowboarding was growing and maturing during the early 90's, the founders of Raging Buffalo saw that snowboarders were being treated as second class citizens at the local ski areas. As a result, the concept of a "snowboard exclusive" area was born. It was this "snowboarder's only" stance that created the most buzz in the snowboard community. A lease was arranged with the Kane County Forest Preserve and in January of 1993 the ski area previously known as Buffalo Park Ski Area became the site of Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park -- officially the world's first snowboard exclusive area. For Summer Lovers: There is also wakeboarding during the hot months. ”

“Emily Schweitzer gave a most beautiful gift to her fellow citizens of Kane County. A deed for her 160 acre property arrived at the Forest Preserve in December 1989. It was Emily Schweitzer's wish that the rolling kame and kettle country be preserved as open space. The property has oak forests, crop land, hay meadows and marshes. A beautiful Edwardian house and matching dog kennel are situated in the southeast corner of the property. Miss Schweitzer's only request was to maintain the property as passive open space. Schweitzer Woods is located at 16N690 Sleepy Hollow Road in Dundee. The preserve is located at Illinois Route 72 and Sleepy Hollow Road. This preserve is an approved off-leash ”
